90 DIAL

Aug. 28th, 2023 04:40 pm
If you’re completely new, 90 degree table is probably unfamiliar to you. Here is how to read it: 0~29 degrees correspond to Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn). 30~59 degrees cover the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius). 60~89 degrees cover the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces).

Hopefully this makes sense. If not, probably there are other references out there if you google 90 degree sort and how to read it. After you get your bearing, you can enjoy reading the Midpoints article again. Have fun!

--------------------------------------------------

The 90 degree dial is a tool used in Uranian astrology, a branch of astrology that incorporates the use of hypothetical planets and midpoints to interpret the horoscope. Uranian astrology was developed by Alfred Witte and his followers in the early 20th century 12.

The 90 degree dial is based on the principle of the fourth harmonic, which divides the 360 degree circle into four equal parts of 90 degrees each. The fourth harmonic angles, such as conjunction (0°), square (90° or 270°), and opposition (180°), are considered to be the most dynamic and significant aspects in astrology, indicating energetic and challenging relationships between planets 1.

The 90 degree dial allows the astrologer to easily locate these aspects by aligning each section of the circle so that it starts with either 0° or a multiple of 90°. For example, the first section of the dial consists of 0° Aries to 29°59’ Gemini, the second section consists of 0° Cancer to 29°59’ Virgo, and so on. The following table shows the correspondences between the zodiac signs and the degrees on the dial:

Zodiac Sign Degree on Dial
Aries 0° - 29°59’
Taurus 30° - 59°59’
Gemini 60° - 89°59’
Cancer 0° - 29°59’
Leo 30° - 59°59’
Virgo 60° - 89°59’
Libra 0° - 29°59’
Scorpio 30° - 59°59’
Sagittarius 60° - 89°59’
Capricorn 0° - 29°59’
Aquarius 30° - 59°59’
Pisces 60° - 89°59’
By using this dial, the astrologer can also easily locate the eighth harmonic angles, such as semisquare (45° or 315°) and sesquiquadrate (135° or 225°), which are also considered to be dynamic and productive aspects in astrology. The eighth harmonic angles are marked by the midpoints between the fourth harmonic angles on the dial 1.

Another advantage of using the 90 degree dial is that it increases four times the amount of space between degree markings, so that planetary positions can be located visually with greater precision. It also facilitates the calculation and interpretation of midpoints, which are points halfway between two planets or points on the horoscope. Midpoints are used to reveal hidden potentials, talents, challenges, and opportunities in a person’s life 12.

The following diagram shows an example of a horoscope chart mounted on a 90 degree dial:

The inner circle of the dial is numbered from 45° to 90°, and it is used to show the midpoints symmetrically from both sides of the dial. For example, if a planet is at 15° on the dial, its midpoint will be at either 75° or -75° on the inner circle 1.

The outer circle of the dial is used to show the positions of the planets and other points on the horoscope, as well as the hypothetical planets used in Uranian astrology. These planets are Cupido, Hades, Zeus, Kronos, Apollon, Admetos, Vulcanus, and Poseidon. They represent different aspects of human experience, such as love, fate, power, spirituality, expansion, limitation, transformation, and enlightenment 23.

The astrologer can use the dial to find hard aspects, harmonics, planetary pictures, and other techniques that are unique to Uranian astrology. The dial can also be used with a plain piece of paper or a computer program that generates charts with this format 24.
