Who is Saturn and what does he teach us?
Saturn is not one who would start a post with pretty words and thoughts just to make us feel better. He doesn’t bring comfort or joy  –  he brings reality, sometimes in its harshest form.

Saturn rules separation, not just in relationships but in the ultimate sense: separation from everything we love and hold dear. Saturn teaches us about letting go, accepting impermanence and moving through hardship.

Wherever Saturn is located in your chart signifies a place where you may experience struggle, sorrow and suffering: how strong this suffering will be depends on the condition of Saturn and when it will take place depends on timing.

Saturn’s lessons include:
Karma: Saturn is the great karmic reckoner. The difficulties he brings are not random  –  they are deeply tied to the lessons we need to learn from past actions.

Isolation and loneliness: One of Saturn’s main lessons is solitude. While some may turn to meditation or spiritual discipline to embrace this isolation, others may experience it as loneliness. Saturn’s energy brings distance from people and pleasures, forcing us to confront ourselves in the quiet spaces of life.

Death and decay: Saturn rules dying  –  not just the physical end of life, but the slow process of aging, decay and degeneration. He reminds us that everything in life will fade, including our own bodies. Diseases of old age, like arthritis, tooth decay, deafness and general debility, all fall under Saturn’s rulership. Through these hard truths, he teaches us to detach and prepare for the ultimate separation.

Aging and ripening: While Saturn rules over aging and decay, this process is also about ripening. Just as a fruit becomes more nourishing when it’s fully matured, we, too, gain wisdom through the slow unfolding of life’s experiences. Saturn’s influence teaches that true understanding, spiritual depth and maturity can only come with time and patience.

Understanding the importance of tradition: Not everything in life needs to be that newfangled, latest trend. Saturn calls us to contemplate on the value of tradition and that which has stood the test of time.

When Saturn is Strong in Your Chart
The benefits of a strong, well-placed Saturn include:

Achievement through perseverance: People with a strong Saturn are often those who manage to achieve great success through sheer willpower and hard work – despite their many challenges. They are reliable and consistent.

Maturity and wisdom: A well-placed Saturn brings wisdom, often beyond one’s years. These are individuals who tend to handle responsibilities with grace.

Strong in the face of suffering and hardship: These are not people who are easily knocked down by the first strong wind. Someone with a strong Saturn may also be skilled at helping alleviate the (Saturnian) suffering of others, for example, through grief counselling, helping the poor or focusing on medical fields such as geriatrics.

Meditation and withdrawal: Saturn’s influence can push one toward a solitary, meditative life. Spiritual discipline, especially practices like fasting, silence and withdrawal from material pleasures, is deeply Saturnian. This planet forces us to turn inward, to confront our fears, and to find peace in detachment.

Signs Where Saturn is Strong
Saturn is particularly strong in Capricorn and Aquarius, the two signs it rules, as well as in Libra, its sign of exaltation.

Capricorn: Saturn in Capricorn emphasizes ambition, discipline, and the ability to navigate the material world. These individuals often work their way up to positions of power through determination and consistency.

Aquarius: Saturn in Aquarius brings focus on social order and long-term visionary goals. Here, Saturn’s influence leans toward humanitarian efforts and reshaping structures for the greater good.

Libra: In Libra, Saturn’s exaltation brings balance between structure and fairness. It is a harmonious placement where Saturn’s discipline is balanced by Venusian diplomacy, resulting in a strong sense of social justice and responsibility.
