Highlights are:

Mercury meets up with Venus retrograde in Aries on Tuesday

Sun meets up with Saturn on Wednesday

Sun sextiles Uranus on Friday

Full Moon in Virgo -- also a lunar eclipse -- on Friday

Mercury goes retrograde on Saturday

Humming in the background is an approaching trine (harmony) between badly behaving Mars (action, anger, assertion) in turf-asserting Cancer and Saturn (controls, authority, cuts) in Pisces (a placement suggesting limited empathy). This trine will be the third in a series that started back in October, and it's moving at the speed of molasses in January. It won't be exact until April 4, in a week with a plethora of other patterns that may-- just may -- offer a glimpse of a new beginning. Meanwhile, I see the potential of Mars trine Saturn everywhere in the news, mostly horrible (because the news tends to lead with whatever bleeds), but there are a few bright spots, which I'll endeavor to share.

It goes like this:

MONDAY: Moon in Leo drives the next two days with stubborn regal drama, driven to extremes by at 12:47 AM ET opposition to ruthless Pluto, suggesting power plays and catharses. Further action today is supported by harmonious connections to Mercury at 9:56 AM ET, Venus at 12:20 PM ET, and Jupiter at 7:45 PM ET. Finding ways to shine and help others shine, too would be a productive strategy for any day with Moon in Leo, which travels without interference until 4:16 PM ET on...

TUESDAY...when Moon squares Uranus. Surprise, surprise. Roll with the upsets, twists and flakes for the next 12 hours, as the rip-roarin' Leo Moon will be void. Whatever the crisis, it may be much ado about nothing, says conventional astrological wisdom. Same for any initiative launched during a Moon void, so if someone wants to meet you and your hope is that it won't go anywhere, schedule it during a void! Moon voids are not auspicious for major purchases, as what is bought may not perform as hoped for. CHILL...and note the fiery idealism driving thoughts and communication in recent days, reflecting the conjunction (meet-up) between Mercury (how we need to think) and Venus (women, values, money, aesthetics) in me-me-me-way-ahead-of-the-pack Aries, exact at 6:54 PM ET.

WEDNESDAY: Moon enters Virgo at 3:55 AM ET, determined to put everything in order after the Leo Moon's big party. The only exact aspect today -- seen in the news in recent days -- is the annual conjunction of the Sun (willpower, heart, leaders) and Saturn (cuts, ambition, controls, mortality, debt) in Pisces at 6:28 AM ET. Heavy heavy heavy.

THURSDAY: Optimism or braggadocio upon waking, as Moon squares Jupiter at 6:12 AM ET. Action flows easily, and the mission might be accomplished...if only an opposition between Moon and Saturn wasn't in the way, as it is at 11:39 PM ET. We've been tracking the weekly clash between Moon and brick-wall Saturn for several weeks now. Last week it was at 8:12 AM ET on Thursday, reflected by the second (in a row) fail of a Space X rocket, which exploded and grounded flights at Florida airports. Meanwhile, the emotions are on the rise, as the Moon waxes to it fullness and is eclipsed, at 2:54 AM ET on...

FRIDAY. The Virgo Moon’s need for perfection in every detail challenges the big dreams symbolized by planets in Pisces. How will you bring them down to Earth? Alternatively, how can you replace debilitating anxiety with trust and faith?

Here is the chart for the lunar eclipse, set in Washington, DC.

Observations:

We haven't had a "blood moon" visible in the U.S. since 2022, and this one is the only one you'll be able to see this year in North America. Here are the details on how to track this eclipse from your location.

Gosh, look at all those planets in the 3rd house -- what a mess for communication, transportation, shipping, mail systems, utilities, neighbors (including neighboring countries), education, documents, contracts

Chart ruler Jupiter is in the 6th house -- not in great shape -- infusing matters of public health and public service with doublespeak. The good news is that we are at the end of some cycle, suggested by the Ascendant close to the end of its sign (Sagittarius)

Neptune is square the Ascendant -- it's all so confusing yet again

Mars is square the Midheaven in Cancer -- provoking open enemies in matters of home security

Chiron -- the wounded healer -- in macho, impulsive, warrior Aries -- is at the root of the problem in these United States -- and doing battle with Mars. Oh, those pesky toxic wounded men.

Mercury is at a virtual standstill -- struggling to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. It rules the 6th (explained above) and the 9th -- lawyers, publishing, foreign affairs

Pluto is on the edge of the 2nd house -- purging and ruthlessly transforming our values, money and self-worth.

Moon is about to meet-up with the South Node in the 9th house -- suggesting a release of perfectionism, niggling details in matters of collective belief systems (politics, legal opinion, broadcasting, etc.) or perhaps just throwing the whole world under the bus, especially with respect to the environment (South Node is in Virgo).

Wherever this eclipse falls in your horoscope is where you may have an opportunity -- like it or not -- to release outmoded ideas of perfection. For personal insights on your unique horoscope, I'm still offering my Eclipse Special -- i.e., several handcrafted paragraphs of observations for this lunar eclipse and the solar eclipse on March 29. Cost: $65, payable with the link on this page. Please send me your birth data if you know I don't have it. You'll receive my thoughts on your horoscope before Friday's eclipse, with gratitude for your interest and patience.

You are more personally affected by this lunar eclipse if you have planets around 23 - 25 degrees of Virgo, Pisces, Gemini, and Sagittarius. Off the top of my head that includes Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, Mark Carney, and E. Jean Carroll.

The Sabian Symbols for this eclipse are "Mary and her white lamb" (for the Moon) and "a tiny inhabited island" (for the Pisces Sun). Astrologer Blain Bovee opined in 2016 that the white lamb suggests an opportunity for a reprieve for the otherwise oppressed, based on kindness and recognition of innocence. As for the tiny island, Bovee sees it as an opportunity to meditate on creating the world of your dreams, "outside the rat race" and presumably other constraints. With Venus and Mercury now in me-me-me, let's-be-a-pioneer Aries, soon to be joined by visionary Neptune (by the end of March), and structuring Saturn (in May), we are likely to see many attempts to create a world of one's own, free from restriction....but are they for real? Check out this concept of a plan for a tiny island: "'Start-up nations:' Groups meet with Trump officials to set up 'freedom cities' free from regulations". Wowwwww.

Back to the forecast:

FRIDAY: Moon trine Uranus at 3:05 AM ET; Sun sextiles Uranus at 5:16 AM ET. Across the pond (i.e., in Europe, where they are already awake), perhaps we will hear news of significant coalitions and cooperation, possibly involving technology and/or even aviation -- a TSA strike?). Or maybe Congress will keep the government running, with or without Democratic votes. The message may be visionary or delusional, as Moon opposes Neptune at 1:47 PM ET, and then goes void for an hour-ish. Moon enters Libra at 2:58 PM ET, now seeking to be diplomatic, fair, and balanced (like a budget?). It's (re)conciliatory drive is empowered by a trine to Pluto, exact at 9:26 PM ET.

SATURDAY: Humming in the background all week is Mercury, slowing to a virtual stop from our perspective, preparing to turn retrograde. DID YOU BACK UP YOUR COMPUTERS? Mercury officially begins its backwards step at 2:46 AM ET. Guidance will be sent in a separate email; otherwise, we'll never get to the news. Meanwhile, me-me-me values are challenged by the we-we-we Libra Moon, as it opposes Venus and Mercury at 5:23 AM ET and 10:11 AM ET. Work out the Mercury and Venus retrograde misunderstandings, and have a pleasant evening, supported by Moon's harmony with Jupiter at 6:37 PM ET.

SUNDAY: A bit of crankiness, perhaps, as Moon squares Mars at 5:52 AM ET...and then goes void for the next 21 hours. CHILL. Whatever the crisis, it's likely much ado about nothing. Moon enters Scorpio at 3:30 AM ET on...

MONDAY: no doubt seeking to consolidate knowledge for the sake of power and control, pushed to extremes in the morning as Moon squares Pluto at 10:10 AM ET. CHILL, CHILL, CHILL. Moon travels in Scorpio without interference until 7:56 PM ET on...

TUESDAY...and the rest of March will be marked by one of these loooooong Moon voids every week. Go on retreat. Unplug your phone. Tune in, review, revise. Don't believe everything you read in the papers. Whatever may be on the way out now, in the last days of this astrological year, the Sun enters Aries on March 20th, and a new year begins.

Here is Beth Owl's Daughter with her always-in-sync Tarot Card of the Week. The Eight of Swords -- a feeling of being confined, controlled -- or simply stuck.

And now, the news.

Last week, patterns driving the news included Mercury's ingress into Aries, sextile Pluto, suggesting news that may be ahead of its time, possibly from underground. A trine between the Sun and Mars was exact on Saturday morning, seen in news by plenty of cranky aggressive stories involving cars, and turf wars. Moon started the week in Taurus -- not a time for major upheavals, as Taurus preserves the status quo (usually); then we had two days of Moon in blah blah blah Gemini....with the weekend driven by the Moon in Cancer, an apt Moon for International Women's Day.

What happened?

Drumpf gave a speech to Congress last Tuesday, March 4th. Clocking in at over 90 minutes, it was the longest address to Congress ever, droning on like the Taurus Moon. If there was an upset beforehand (Moon was conjunct Uranus right before 9 PM ET), maybe that's why he walked in almost 20 minutes late...with the auspicious star Spica on the Libra Ascendant of that moment in time.

Oh -- there was an upset -- almost as soon as the speech started — from Rep. Al Green of Texas, challenging drumpf's claim of a mandate for his (pre-redeemed) Wreck-It-Ralph Administration. I could not sit through the monotony, and the keep-things-calm Taurus Moon kept protests to a disappointing minimum. Historian Heather Cox Richardson took the night off.... but if you really want a re-cap, Stephen Colbert was live on the air -- here it is. And Pete Buttigieg -- whose horoscope is looking superpowered in a couple of years -- was there, too. Under the influence of potentially reality-challenging pattern between Neptune and the Moon, drumpf said something about "renewing the American Dream" and then complained about spending millions on transgender mice, which -- according to Rolling Stone, he is still insisting is true.

Other patterns in drumpf's horoscope -- not seen since all of 2017 -- suggested blocks, controls and reality checks on his otherwise expansive, chaotic reach. Cue Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, now please. Her confirmation was rammed through during a Mars retrograde in Aries. Conventional wisdom holds that rammed-through aggression has a higher-than-average probability of backfiring. Last week, ACB joined the Democratic-appointed justices, along with Chief Justice "Thank you, won't forget it" Roberts, in ruling against the convicted felon (it occurs to me that those 34 felony counts should not be forgotten).

"Amy Coney Barrett isn't what the conservative legal movement expected" -- which is something to keep in mind, given everything that's been initiated and/or announced since late October. Mars doesn't move into new territory until the first week of May, and I expect that the last week of April will be volatile. Here's an article about Barrett from 2020 -- note that the pattern that was hot at the time of her confirmation hearing has been hot all through this Mars Rx in Cancer -- and is being triggered right now...continuing into early April. We can expect her to make news.

Speaking of backlash against rammed-through initiatives, now that Mars is slowly moving forward again, it is happening.

Reality check: "Army Corps of Engineers knew Trump order to release 2.2 billion gallons of water in California was a waste, memo shows"

US Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) flat-out asked two nominees in a Senate confirmation if the convicted felon is a Russian asset, noting that his actions (e.g., cutting off assistance to Ukraine, initiating tariff wars against our loyal allies, sowing hat-red that tears families and friendships apart, destroying systems of taxpayer-funded government social and public service agencies that prevent poverty, disease, and toxicity; wiping out all mention of anything that isn't white and male, etc. etc. etc.) sure do seem to be things that someone who was a Russian asset, as opposed to a defender of the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, would do.

"Growing judicial voices challenge Trump's challenge of constitutional norms"

"Musk's Tesla dealerships face 'takedown' protests"

"Musk melts down as Tesla stock price plunges"

"Musk says cyberattacks caused massive X outage"

"Inside explosive Cabinet meeting where they clash with Musk"

"1000's protest -- Stand Up for Science"

"1000s gather around the world to oppose Trump on International Womens' Day"

Women in Paris bared their breasts, so apt for a day with Moon in Cancer conjunct Mars, with Venus RX and Mercury in Aries!

"Trump voter wrongly detained by ICE questions support"

"JD Vance's cousin says JD and Trump are Putin's useful idiots" -- and if weren't for the French press, we would never have heard of him. Did you know he fought in Ukraine?! Maybe he'll run for office.

Reflecting the heavy militant controls of Mars trine Saturn and Saturn conjunct Sun:

"Judge blocks deportation of Palestinian activist who led student protests at Columbia University." Super scary, because he was not here on a visa; he actually has a permanent green card, an 8-month pregnant wife who is a US citizen, and the State Dept apparently has no legal authority to summarily deport a green card holder; there is this thing called due process, etc. etc.

"Rubio says 83% of USAID programs have been shut down after six-week purge". People will die.

"These words are disappearing in the new Trump Administration." Read this and weep.

"Like a horror movie: German tourist and tattoo artist came for 3-week visit; has been detained by ICE for a month"

"ICE detains UK tourist in backpacking trip turned nightmare." I'm old enough to remember flying to Vancouver with a friend who didn't have a passport. I think she also forgot her driver's license. This was in 1999, and the nice border official at the airport let her into the country because I vouched for her. And we had a fun weekend and flew back to Los Angeles without any hassle. That's when we lived in a safe country. I miss those days.

"US added to global human rights watchlist" -- joining only a few countries, including Italy, mamma mia.

South Carolina revives death penalty; forces inmate to choose form of execution; he opts for a firing squad -- Mars.

In other news...

Neptune -- viruses, memory loss -- at the very end of Pisces reflected in the autopsy report revealing how Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, sadly died. "[she] from rare infectious disease around a week before actor's death." Hackman had Alzheimer's. Here is his horoscope, too -- note transiting Mars squaring Pluto.

UPDATE: on Justin Trudeau, who stepped down as Canada's prime minister. He went out on an assertive note, as anticipated months ago, with transiting Mars squaring his Moon in Aries-Uranus in Libra opposition. "Your government has done this to you," he said in a speech aimed at Americans. Mark Carney, who celebrates his 60th birthday on March 16th, according to what we know of his horoscope, won the primary with 90% of the vote.

It should not surprise you that Carney's Pisces Sun was eclipsed last September and will be impacted by Friday's eclipse, too. So many people who seem to have come out of nowhere over the past 12 months (e.g., JD Vance, Jasmine Crockett, Tulsi Gabbard) were affected by a recent eclipse! Carney's Saturn is 9 Pisces and thus affected by the Pisces New Moon -- planting seeds for a new cycle of authority. As you can see, transiting Saturn was putting quite a squeeze on his opposition between Mars-Uranus-Pluto (and possibly the Virgo Moon), and Venus-Saturn in Pisces. But now, save for Saturn's upcoming conjunction to his Pisces Sun in early April, he can look forward to the expansive potential of Jupiter on the lot, which could help in an upcoming election.

In closing...

I appreciated this quote in Steve Schmidt's The Warning, posted over the weekend. Fiery idealism of this week's indomitable Venus-Mercury conjunction in Aries, coupled with the heavy realism of the Sun-Saturn conjunction in Pisces. Rear Admiral James Stockdale -- Ross Perot's running mate in 1992 -- said these words, now known as the "Stockdale Paradox:"
