Jupiter Retrograde, Acronychal Rising, and the Recovery of Planetary Meaning
Doctor H

In recent work on Jupiter-in-Cancer horoscopes, a consistent pattern has emerged: when Jupiter is retrograde in Cancer, it often behaves as though it were placed in Capricorn. Instead of expressing care, nurturance, or emotional belonging, Jupiter under these conditions tends to operate through restraint, moral judgment, institutional authority, and social discipline. The planet’s beneficence is not absent, but filtered through structure rather than sympathy.

This dynamic begins to shift as the Sun moves into Capricorn and approaches opposition with Jupiter. At this point we enter an often-overlooked phase of planetary motion: acronychal rising.

==============================

Acronychal Rising and the Recovery of Planetary Visibility

In Babylonian astronomy, acronychal rising marked the moment when a planet, previously lost in the Sun’s glare, became visible again in the evening sky. It is not the moment of opposition itself, but occurs shortly after it, once the planet rises early enough to be seen after sunset.

This distinction matters. At exact opposition, the planet rises at the same moment the Sun sets and is effectively invisible, sitting on the horizon in twilight. Only when the planet begins to rise before sunset does it re-enter visibility and regain what the Babylonians understood as operative power.

Visibility, for them, was agency.

Acronychal rising therefore marks not abstraction, but reappearance — a return of planetary presence to the human field of vision. This produces a narrow but potent interval in which the planet’s essential nature becomes briefly legible before fading once more.

Retrograde Motion and the Temporary Reversal of Meaning

Seen through this lens, a retrograde superior planet does not merely weaken or malfunction. Instead, it moves through a structured sequence:

Inversion — the planet expresses itself through the logic of its opposite sign.

Revelation — at acronychal rising, the planet briefly reasserts its native meaning.

Withdrawal — following this moment, the planet recedes again until its direct station restores coherence.

Testing the Model: Three Horoscopes

This framework will be tested through three horoscopes, introduced sequentially in the natal database over the coming weeks.

First: J. D. Salinger (December 31)

Salinger’s chart places Jupiter in Cancer at opposition. This is the fulcrum of the entire cycle — the moment of maximum confrontation. Jupiter’s Cancerian values emerge not gently but polemically. Salinger’s rejection of ambition, careerism, and institutional success reflects a direct confrontation with Jupiter-in-Capricorn ideals. His work elevates childhood innocence, emotional sincerity, and moral refuge, casting adult society as spiritually hollow. This is Jupiter in Cancer asserting itself through opposition rather than accommodation.

Next: Benjamin Franklin (January 7)

Franklin represents the phase of acronychal rising itself. Here, Jupiter has just returned to visibility. Its beneficence becomes public, constructive, and socially productive. Care, improvement, and moral responsibility are no longer opposed to structure but embedded within it. Franklin’s synthesis of civic virtue, institutional design, and moral instruction exemplifies Jupiter in Cancer functioning openly and coherently within the world.

Finally: Janis Joplin (January 14)

Joplin belongs to the phase after acronychal rising. Jupiter remains visible but is receding from its maximum brightness which occurs at opposition. Emotional openness and vulnerability are still present, but the coherence that sustains them is weakening.

A Note on the “Missing” Phase

There is, finally, a symmetrical counterpart to acronychal rising: the last morning visibility of a superior planet just before it disappears into the Sun’s glare. This moment called heliacal setting — when a planet is seen for the final time before sunrise — is astronomically real but largely absent from traditional astrological doctrine. The reason is practical rather than conceptual: Babylonian observers worked in the evening sky, not at dawn.

Because of this, the tradition preserved the language of emergence rather than disappearance. Yet the symmetry is there, and acknowledging it helps complete the cycle.

While heliacal setting is the conceptual mirror of acronychal rising, the two do not occur at equal distances from exact opposition. In practice, acronychal rising for a superior planet like Jupiter typically occurs only a few degrees after opposition, often around two to four degrees. Heliacal setting, by contrast, tends to occur farther from opposition, commonly six to ten degrees or more.

This asymmetry arises from the physics of visibility itself. At dawn, increasing sky brightness overwhelms faint objects quickly, requiring a planet to be significantly higher above the horizon to remain visible. At dusk, the darkening sky allows a planet to be seen at much lower altitude. Secondary factors — such as the angle of the ecliptic, observer latitude, and season — modulate this effect, but the asymmetry itself is fundamental. The sky favors emergence over disappearance.

Taken together, these observations suggest that the retrograde cycle of a superior planet is not a simple inversion, but a structured narrative: emergence, withdrawal, and return. Acronychal rising marks the brief moment when a planet regains its voice — a moment that, when tracked carefully, reveals how planetary meaning re-enters the world before fading once again.

[This article first appeared in Dell Horoscope magazine, January 2014, and later included in my book Under a Sacred Sky.]

For those of us who engage in predictive astrology of any sort, one of the greatest challenges is determining how an upcoming aspect will manifest. It’s easy enough to grasp the broader archetypal contours of Saturn crossing over someone’s Moon, say, but what if you wish to know more precisely how that upcoming trend will materialize? And what prescriptive measures should we offer a client if we see a difficult trend coming up and they ask for ways of counterbalancing those energies?

I’d like to look here at a simple technique many of us are probably familiar with already but which we may not always take full advantage of. I’m referring to the practice of looking backwards to see what happened during previous passes of a transit to better understand what might oc- cur during upcoming contacts between those bodies. To illustrate what I mean, let’s take a look at a few case histories.

The Teacher

I recently had a woman come to me who was about to experience her fourth Jupiter return at age 48. It was natally positioned in Gemini in her 9th house, so I wasn’t too surprised to learn she was a professor at a local college. But what would this upcoming Jupiter conjunction bring for her?

Based on the symbolism of these placements, there were many possibilities, of course – publishing, traveling, teaching, religious studies, and so on. But I wanted to pin it down a more specifically, if at all possible. So I asked her if she remembered what happened twelve years earlier, specifically when Jupiter last came around to that same spot?

Fortunately, she remembered clearly, and said she received an award for her teaching at that time. In addition, she also went on a long-distance trip to Japan as part of a research project. Pressing her a little bit further,

I asked if she could recall what happened during the Jupiter conjunction prior to that one, when she was just 24. That’s when she graduated from college, she explained, and when she went on another important long-distance trip, though that time to Europe.

Based on these tidbits of information, I could safely suggest this could likewise be an important (and positive) period in her teaching career, but also a time when long-distance travels would be likely, not to mention beneficial. As it turns out, she already had a trip to South America booked, which was a continent she’d never traveled to before. She was somewhat nervous about the trip, however, and it was actually a large part of the reason she looked me up, so was naturally relieved to hear what the horoscope suggested about that time-frame.

The Entrepreneur

Saturn cycles are longer-range in duration than Jupiter ones, so for that reason can trigger more profound, long-lasting developments. Case in point: a year ago a businessman in his sixties came to me with Jupiter and Venus conjunct in his horoscope. In a few months transiting Saturn was going to be conjuncting that natal pair, and he knew just enough about astrology to feel nervous about what this might bring!

I took a look back in the ephemeris to see when that particular transit last occurred in his life, and found it was in 1982. I asked, ”Did anything important happen for you back in 1982, on either a professional or a personal front?” He thought for a second then said, ”Yes – that’s exactly when I started up the company I now run. It was a lot of hard work getting the kinks worked out, and there were some delays at the time, but the business has been running successfully now for nearly 30 years.”

I pressed further, ”Can you think of any parallels between what was happening back then and what’s happening in your life now? For example, are you thinking of making any changes in your business, or even starting up some new business, like you did back then?” He said, ”Both, actually. I’m downsizing the business I started back in 1982, and I’ve just decided to start up a new company. I’m opening up a chain of restaurants in the Midwest, and the first one will be opening later this year. This is a major transition period for me.”

That was helpful info, and allowed me to say with some assurance that Saturn might not produce a setback or loss in his life (as he feared) so much as crystallize a major financial undertaking, or a shift in his business responsibilities. I suggested that the upcoming Saturn transit would probably bring much the same thing into his life now as it did for him back then. There would probably be a lot of hard work, possibly even delays, but the outcome would likely be positive for him (especially considering his natal Jupiter/Venus conjunction). As of this writing that seems to be exactly what’s transpiring for him.

The Free Spirit

Sometimes, the half-cycles and quarter-cycles of planetary transit can be just as important to look at, especially with the outer planets, since they move so slowly that they might not complete a full revolution during a person’s lifetime. As one illustration, consider the woman who came to me when transiting Uranus was about to oppose her natal Sun. To me, this obviously suggested that major changes could soon happen for her, either internally or externally, possibly both.

But what form would they take?

Now in her sixties, she could clearly remember when Uranus conjuncted her Sun 42 years earlier – 180 degrees away from the opposition that was now emerging. I strongly sensed there could be some resonance between that period and this one, as Uranus now moved in to oppose that earlier point from her twenties.

When I asked her what happened back then, she explained how it was a time of radical change in her life: she moved away from home and family for the first time, in order to live across the country. Just as importantly, this also was a time when she decided on the career direction she’s remained in until the present day – as an editor.

I asked her whether she was contemplating any major changes during the coming year. It turned out that she was considering another cross-country move, this time to the American Northwest. But she was also considering taking the literary skills she’d been accumulating since the Uranus/Sun conjunction four decades years earlier, and using them to finally become a creative writer herself. So rather than just assist others with their creative work, this was a time she could finally break out and give expression to her own literary voice.

Putting all this info together, I suggested that the current Uranus opposition was in some way a culmination of that earlier time in her life, and involved not just a desire for more independence and change, but was also motivating her to explore her own creative potentials as a writer. Based on all she related to me, I could safely encourage her to pursue those creative dreams further. Those opposing points in the Uranian cycle over four decades of time seemed almost like successive acts in a long-term stage play, and explaining it to her in this way seemed to help give her perspective on the course her life was taking.

A Lesson in Anger Management

Finally, an example from my own life. Not long ago I was facing a transiting conjunction of Saturn over my natal Mars. What would this bring? Would it manifest as exhaustion, or as a frustration of my desires? Might I even hit my head if I wasn’t careful (something that’s happened to me far too often, unfortunately)? How might I best prepare for this energy?

I couldn’t clearly remember what happened 30 years earlier when this conjunction last fired, but since I kept a scrupulous daily diary back then, I could go back and read what happened for me during that period in considerable detail.

There were a number of things which happened then, but perhaps the most dramatic was an upsetting confrontation with a truck driver while I was driving in my local neighborhood. I was on my way to attend a class when a large truck directly in front of me decided to make a wide turn to enter a corporate driveway. It abruptly came to a stop, blocking all lanes of traffic in the process. Because I was already late for my class, after waiting 20 or 30 seconds I impatiently decided to honk my horn, which in turn prompted the driver behind me to honk his horn as well.

Upon hearing this, the truck driver proceeded to climb down out of his cab, walk up to my car window, and grab me by the shirt lapel while letting loose with a string of obscenities. He was angry, to put it mildly, and seemed about to punch me in the face. No, this wasn’t going well.

Fortunately, I managed to calm him down with a smile and some friendly words, at which point he relaxed a bit and let go of my shirt. Through clenched jaw, he muttered how there was another vehicle blocking the driveway he was trying to enter, which I couldn’t see from where I was, so he was stuck, too. He seemed just as frustrated by the delay as I was, and was understandably upset at the drivers behind him honking their horns.

The experience shook me up, since it could have easily turned violent, but what I took away from it was the importance of not reacting impulsively, and the need to be more aware of my own impatience in situations. Nothing wrong with honking one’s horn, to be sure – I’ve seen them save lives on occasion – but thinking back on that occasion, I know I wasn’t being as careful as I could have been and could have waited a bit longer to see what was going on before relying on the horn.

So what did this tell me as I watched Saturn coming around to cross over my Mars again? For one, I knew this could be a time when I needed to watch my emotions and anger more closely, and not react in a knee-jerk way to annoying situations. When the time finally came, I was definitely on my guard – especially while driving! (Understand, during a pleasant Jupiter aspect one can practically get away with almost anything, but under a stressful Saturn the smallest misstep can sometimes lead to disaster. The lessons the ringed planet imparts are meant to stick!)

As things played out this time around, nothing happened on the streets or highways, but what did happen was similar in symbolic ways. On a few occasions during this period I was around people who made emotionally-charged comments about politics and religion that pushed my buttons in a surprising way. Normally, these would have drawn me into heated debates, perhaps even arguments, and I could have easily let myself become upset. But since I knew what was unfolding in my chart, and remembered what happened the previous time, I chose to watch my emotions more carefully. I calmed down my breathing, and measured my comments in a way that actually proved far more effective in communicating my views than raising my voice and going on the offensive. I learned an important lesson by studying what Saturn taught me that previous time, and it allowed me to transmute these energies into some- thing more constructive.

These are just a few examples of how this approach can be employed to flesh out your understanding of predictive cycles before they happen. If you’ve never used this approach yourself, you might begin by looking at your own horoscope and seeing if there are major transits happening in your life anytime soon, and if so, take a few moments to see what happened when they last triggered in your life. You might be surprised by the subtle ways the lessons of that period shed light on the situations you’re entering into now.

What’s the old saying by Santayana – ”Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it”? Astrology teaches us to remember the past to better prepare for the future.

AN INDIAN CHIEF CLAIMS RECOGNITION AND POWER FROM THE ASSEMBLED TRIBE

Commentary: ‘An Indian Chief Claims Recognition and Power From
the Assembled Tribe’ shows someone in a position of authority,
standing strong, staking their ‘Claim’ and place amongst the people
that he or she leads or represents. This is a Symbol associated with
the Jesus story. Jesus’ karmic lesson was to rise above the crowd;
to claim power in situations, places and with people; and to accept
any consequences that such a ‘Claim’ could lead to.
Oracle: There are leadership issues here. Sometimes we need to
rise to the occasion and take charge, and this is most likely one
of those times. This can lead to a struggle for control. You may be
challenged to remind those around you of your leadership qualities
and your ability to be strong, reliable and accountable. There’s the
need to stand up in front of others and be counted as someone who
has what it takes. As long as nobody is “lording it over” others, life
can operate in a smoother manner, with everyone understanding
their place in the scheme of things. We all have to find the courage
to stand up and exhibit a show of strength now and then. However,
there can be the flip side: are those above you reminding you
of the lesser position you occupy in the scheme of things? You
can find your own internal authority by believing in yourself, by
‘Claiming Recognition and Power’ and acknowledging your nobility
and courage. There can be challenging events happening in the
external world, a battle of wills perhaps, but if you stand strong and
firm in your inner belief in yourself, you can come out victorious
with a greater sense of authority radiating out to those around
you. People will take you more seriously. Always know when to
listen to and give way to the rights of others and you’ll be given a
stronger position in society.
Keywords: Assuming authority and the need for it. Benevolence
bestowed. Winning by charisma and strength of numbers. Finding
a true sense of place. Signs that one should be in charge. Staking
one’s claim. The ‘Claim of Recognition’.
Respect. Having to stand
up or stand out in the crowd. Having the charisma of leadership.
Consolidating power. Popularity contests.
The Caution: Power tripping and struggles. Over-inflated views
of one’s self. The continual need to quieten power battles. Being
challenged by those left and right. Demanding attention and that
others follow orders. Taking over. Selfish and ego-driven. Too
many chiefs.

Jupiter at 0° Cancer Squares Natal Sun (0° Pisces) & Mercury (17° Pisces) (0° & 17° orb):Impact: A challenging square to his core identity and communication style. Jupiter expands Piscean sensitivity, potentially amplifying confusion or compassion—but squares bring tension. This could manifest as public "growth pains" around his narrative (e.g., interviews or legal updates), forcing him to confront idealistic illusions vs. harsh realities. Mercury square suggests scattered thoughts or media buzz; expect emotional revelations about family roots or past deceptions by mid-2025.

Jupiter Opposes Natal Venus (29° Capricorn) & Mars (27° Capricorn) (1° & 3° orb):Impact: Direct opposition to his love/values (Venus) and drive/assertion (Mars). Cancer-Capricorn axis pits emotional nurturing against ambitious control—Jupiter here may inflate desires for security/home, clashing with his Capricorn "armor." This echoes scandals: overindulgence in pleasures (Venus) or impulsive actions (Mars) coming under scrutiny. Positive: Opportunities for reconciliation in relationships (e.g., with family), but risk of excess leading to fallout. Ties to his natal Saturn nearby, intensifying lessons in boundaries.
Transcending Reductionism in Astrology
Part One
I was just reading a new Vedic astrology book that reminded me of a common failing among beginning to intermediate astrologers, namely reducing planets or houses (or other chart components) to single themes (or too few themes).

There are astrologers, for example, who see Jupiter as just good, or lucky, or protective, or -- in the new book -- the North Node (Rahu) as representing desires.

[Note: Planets have natural as well as temporal significations. This article focuses on natural significations. If you want to learn more about temporal significations, you can read my article on The Temporal Status of Planets as benefics and malefics.]

But each chart point or part has many, many intrinsic meanings, both positive and negative, which can all manifest in the same chart.

And the art of the mature astrologer is in being able to ascertain accurately which meanings are likely to manifest in the person and their life, and when.
For example

Jupiter -- even just in its natural significations -- can mean:

Fat, extravagant, gluttonous, excessive, and exaggerative

and

Wise, spiritual, steady, tolerant, and kind

and

Over-idealistic, over-optimistic, over-generous, and over-expressive

and

Full of themselves, know-it-all, over-confident, and blindly zealous

and

Charismatic, successful, lucky, and wealthy

and

Philosophical, theoretical, speculative, and imaginative

and

Heroic, mentoring, Guru, and Pioneering.

and

Inspired, foretelling, anticipating, and envisioning

And I haven't even covered all that Jupiter can represent. E.g. in Vedic astrology, Jupiter also represents children and elder siblings.

In order to tease out which of Jupiter's many meanings will manifest in a person's life, one looks at the meanings of the houses it occupies and rules, the planets that aspect it -- all of the factors that impinge upon and modify the expression of Jupiter, eliciting some of its attributes instead of others.

I wrote this to provide a taste for the diversity of meanings that each planet has, and to encourage you, my readers, to be truly comprehensive or panoramic in your thinking about and explicating each of the planets, houses, etc.

The Second House: Ownership and Self Esteem
I was called to pick up my favorite Vedic Classical book, Phaladeepika, today and happened to open to the shloka about the meanings of the second house.

(For those more familiar with Western astrology, the Vedic meanings of the houses definitely have overlaps with Western astrological meanings but often add themes not found in the West.)

For example, in Jyotish the Second House indicates all vocal communication, as opposed to written, (Western astrology assigns both types to the Third House).

The Vedic Second House meanings include Punditry (expertise in a particular subject or field), family life -- especially as a child, mathematics, and ownership.

But self esteem is more of a Second House meaning in Western astrology.

When I read the word "ownership" in Phaladeepika, something clicked.

Of course, the ordinary meaning of ownership is owning possessions, but perhaps the word can be applied in a broader sense.

As you might know, I have been a practicing psychic for 47 years. (Please don't contact me for a reading as my practice is completely full and I'm not taking on any new clients for the foreseeable future).

But it was only a few years ago that my Guides -- the Angels that I channel -- informed me that they used my psychic gifts to read people. This was quite a surprise to me because for 40+ years I thought that they read people directly.

I asked them "why are you revealing this to me now?". And they replied, "Because it won't go to your head, and by owning your own psychic gifts, they will deepen considerably". And that's what has happened.

What does this have to do with the Second House? That there is a very strong link between owning ones gifts and having self esteem (both Second House significations).

And recognizing the ways that we are all unique, and have mastery, and that by owning our gifts more deeply, they will flourish.

The Importance of the Ascendant
and Confirming your Ascendant degree
I recently had an amazing day filled with deep psychological breakthroughs, and, as an astrologer, wondered, "What transits were happening that day"?

Much to my surprise, I had no transits by Saturn through Pluto, and no planet-to-planet transits at all!

But what I did have were three transits to my Ascendant: Sun trine Ascendant, Mars sextile Ascendant, and Jupiter opposite Ascendant.

This reminded me that transits to the Ascendant are paramount. In the olden days forty years ago, many astrologers dismissed the Ascendant as simply your "persona" -- how the world saw you or a superficial layer of your personality.

Even then I knew that this was a mistake. With the rise (in the West) of both Traditional Astrology (Mediaeval and Hellistic) and Vedic astrology, the truth that the Ascendant is the most important point in the chart has revived.

The Ascendant, and its Ruler, are YOU. More than any other point or planet in the chart.

No wonder this convergence of three planet upon the Ascendant, with a clear field of no other transits, was so incredibly transforming.

So how does one confirm ones Ascendant position?

Just as I have several times.

Paying careful attention to when transiting planets aspect the Ascendant, especially when they conjunct or oppose the Ascendant.

Since Mars conjuncts or opposes the Ascendant every year, that's the easiest one to track. Jupiter does so every six years, and Saturn every 15 years or so.

Watch the weeks before and after the planet is about to enter one degree before the Ascendant and note when you start feeling the planet's energies strongly. That will let you know if your Rising Sign is exactly what you think it is, or a degree or more off.

I encourage everyone to do this, as it will empower you to trust your chart more.

p.s. For those who don't know what to watch for:

When Mars impacts your Ascendant, you might experience more energy, sexuality, speediness, or anger.

Jupiter can incline you to feel more open, generous, spiritual, trusting, or stable.

Saturn can lead you to feeling more anxious, depleted, distrustful, judgmental (of yourself or others), or isolated.

Why can Vedic astrologers rectify charts so easily?
During the years when I was exclusively a Western astrologer, I had several calls to rectify client's charts.

I chose to undertake some rectification jobs, and spent many hours on each -- and had to have a deep understanding of astrology -- in order to determine an accurate birth time. I was successful, as borne out by information later discovered, but the work was incredibly laborious.

And that's why most Western astrologers don't rectify charts. (And by the way, astrology software cannot rectify charts, only advanced Western astrologers can.)

So when I dove into learning Jyotish, I was surprised to discover that Vedic astrology is perfectly designed for routine chart rectification, and most Jyotishis can and do rectify charts easily and frequently.

Why is rectification so simple in Jyotish? Let's start by understanding that Vedic astrology began thousands of years ago when timepieces were scarce and also quite inaccurate.

Vedic astrology developed with structures and procedures to be able to easily determine which birth time works for a person.

As shown in this animation:

Submit

The Whole Sign House system pioneered in Vedic astrology compensates for imprecise birth times because charts only change every two hours or so. Therefore, if you have a birth time with a possible time range of three hours, you only have to look at two natal charts to see which fits.

(Note: Western astrology also used Whole Sign Houses until the Tropical Zodiac drifted from the Sidereal Zodiac and Whole Sign Houses stopped working.)

To narrow down birth times even more, Vedic astrology has a set of harmonic charts called Amsha, Vargas, or Divisional charts that change more quickly, e.g. the marriage sub-chart, called the Navamsha, changes every 8 minutes.

There are many sub-charts (Amshas) each indicating the flow of a specific life theme such as siblings, parents, career, home, health, deaths, education, vehicles, ethics, spirituality, or vitality.

And so the Jyotishi can explore each divisional chart and compare them to how each of these life areas have panned out for the person whose birth time is in question, and thereby arrive at a relatively precise birth time.

E.g. if someone is happily married, the Navamsha should show that marriage is favorable vs a Navamsha indicating that the person never got married or has been divorced.

Are you an Astrological Maestro?
One of my pet peeves has been with students of astrology who can't wait to add as many extra points into their charts as they can.

But I was reflecting upon it today, acknowledging that different astrological factors speak to each astrologer, and so extra points can be inordinately valuable and effective in the hands of specific practitioners, as can different predictive methods, etc.

So what is a good way of thinking about this?

I came up with a musical analogy:

A preeminent conductor can work with a very large orchestra, hearing every instrument -- all at the same time!

They know when to emphasize the horn section, when to quiet down the drums, and when to change the tempo.

However, it takes years and years of hard work for a conductor become a master, a maestro.

And that is where my issue lies.

Learning has many stages:

Being introduced to and deepening ones understanding of the vocabulary. As in learning a foreign language, we need to learn the basic vocabulary before tackling a larger one.

Then beginning to understand the "parts of speech", I.e. how words are to be positioned in relationship with each other.

Next, learning grammar. Seeing how to combine words correctly to communicate effectively.

At this point, when all of the above are "under your belt" (fully digested and automatic), then creativity, inspiration, and magic begins to happen.

And so with astrology, "parts of speech" would include planets, signs, houses, aspects, etc.

I invite everyone to enjoy every step of the journey. To retrace their steps to gain even more depth (beginners mind), and to be happy to discover where they are too narrow or even wrong in their use of "language".

A juggler starts with three balls, and only later can work with bowling pins, more objects, etc.

And so do we.

Are Mutable Signs really Mutable?
I was also reflecting today on mutability and realized that while people with many planets in mutable signs can be adaptable in the moment, it would be a big mistake to think that they are open to making deep changes.

In other words, the very receptivitity and changeability on the surface can mislead us into thinking that there's a core flexibility, where there is not!

I recognize that for deep change, one needs Cardinality to initiate it, and Fixity to consolidate it.

So don't be surprised if many mutable-predominant people make major changes much less often than you might expect.

The distinction between the innermost planets and the middle planets
This week I tripped on a large backup power unit and fell.

I quickly realized that Mars was at work because the fall was due to my haste and impulsive movement.

And yes, I had transiting Mars opposing my natal Moon within a degree, applying.

This led me to reflect on the fact that in Vedic astrology, every planet influences planets in the same sign and in opposite signs, but only Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn have additional special aspects.

And that these three planets, which are the only visible planets beyond the Earth, are significantly more potent in their effects than the innermost ones, e.g. by transit.

It's almost as if they are "outside of our skin" and therefore are more compelling.

I think that this is a very useful distinction, because I have certainly felt Mars transits much more than any of the transits by the innermost planets.
The effects of good and bad placements: the Nakshatras
I am continually struck by how a planet in a Nakshatra that's well placed manifests the positive qualities of a Nakshatra, while if poorly placed, manifests the negative qualities of the Nakshatra.

Of course, one could say that about other attributes besides Nakshatra placement, but it's very conspicuous there.

A couple of examples:

In Donald Trump's chart, his Moon is in Jyestha, both debilitated and eclipsed (conjunct Ketu, the South Node) and aspected by Mars.

Among the more shadowy aspect of Jyestha are being manipulative, having a false public face, fierce dominance, and not letting go and moving on or admitting defeat.

While those with positive Jyestha placements don't manifest these qualities at all, Trump certainly has.

Another example is Ashlesha. While many people with important placements in Ashlesha feel a bit different from others, only truly poor placements can create deep feelings of alienation.

And writing this led to another important insight: If the chart as a whole is either very positive or very challenged, then, to some extent, all of the Nakshatra placements are uplifted or made poor, respectively.

Take Arnold Schwartzenegger. His Saturn is not only in Ashlesha, but also combust, leading us to expect him to have very powerful Nakshatra-related issues.

(And for most people, the Nakshatra occupied by Saturn already has some challenges via Saturn.)

But his chart is so positive, with so many yogas, two benefics aspecting the Ascendant and Ascendant Lord, and the Ascendant lord is doubly strong and benefic too, that his Saturn in Ashlesha just doesn't cause major problems in his life.

(Upon close inspection, Saturn and Venus also form a lovely Raja Yoga together too).

Nevertheless, all placements do manifest, and Saturn in Arnold's chart (as 9th lord) represented his father, who was, according to Wikipedia, a man who doubted that he fathered Arnold, was very strict and punished him corporally, and had no patience or receptivity towards Arnold.

But Arnold's deeply positive makeup enabled him to rise above his early traumas.

A website visitor mentioned that she had read my article comparing Western and Vedic astrology.

I realized that I've written many articles on this topic, and decided to list several of them here, in case others want to delve into the differences between the two astrologies:

How I got into Vedic Astrology
and Do They -- Western and Vedic Astrologies -- Blend?
Where in a chart is the "Soul's Purpose"?
I received an email asking this question.

My response was:

"Naïve astrologers think that the nodes are the markers of soul destiny, but in both Western and Vedic charts, everything in the chart contributes to and reflects the soul lessons, purposes, and the destinies of the incarnation."

In Western astrology, every strong aspect, focal planets, predominances, and other noteworthy uniquenesses all indicate a person's specific life themes, as do so many other chart configurations.

Similarly, in Jyotish, the yogas, reinforced and convergent themes, and influences on the Lagna and Lagnesa are only of few of the many factors pointing to a person's unique destiny.

It is vital for astrologers not to have "tunnel vision" or over-simplify by focusing only on one or two chart factors. Every chart is one-of-a-kind, never to be repeated, and therefore each moment (and each birth) has its own individual attributes.

Richard Grey’s Commentary: “An Old Adobe Mission – Standing Up for Our Lifestyle Deepens Our Character and Inspires in Us a Faith That We Belong”
Description: This interpretation emphasizes endurance, commitment to a chosen lifestyle or heritage, and the integration of material and spiritual needs. The adobe mission symbolizes lasting structures that provide physical and emotional security, fostering deep character through loyalty to community and shared values. It warns against blind adherence to superficial traditions and stresses the importance of spiritual awareness to maintain stability in a challenging world.

Themes: Endurance, commitment, heritage, community, spiritual awareness, loyalty, stability, defense of values.

Omega/Chandra Symbol: “Deciding to Die, a Vampire Walks into the Sunlight” (Omega) / “A Two-Headed Calf” (Chandra)
Description: The Omega symbol depicts a transformative sacrifice of personal desires for a higher purpose, embracing change to achieve spiritual growth. The Chandra symbol focuses on inner duality (conscious vs. unconscious self), advocating acceptance of all aspects of being to resolve conflict and find harmony. Both emphasize transformation and integration for spiritual fulfillment.

Themes: Transformation, sacrifice, duality, integration, spiritual growth, overcoming fear, acceptance.

“In for the Long Haul” Description: “An Old Adobe Mission – In for the Long Haul”
Description: This interpretation underscores endurance, commitment, and the initiation of a significant mission or project. The adobe mission represents a lasting endeavor, with resolve to follow through, likened to Scorpio’s “sight-seeing bus” (committing to the journey). It highlights starting with bold intent and perseverance toward a collective goal.

Themes: Endurance, commitment, initiation, resolve, collective purpose, perseverance.

Likenesses
Endurance and Commitment:
All three interpretations share a strong emphasis on endurance and commitment. Grey’s commentary and the “In for the Long Haul” description both use the adobe mission to symbolize lasting structures and the resolve to sustain a lifestyle or mission over time. The Omega symbol’s act of sacrifice reflects a deep commitment to a higher purpose, aligning with the perseverance highlighted in the other two descriptions.

Example: The adobe mission’s durability (Grey, “Long Haul”) parallels the vampire’s resolute decision to face transformation (Omega), each reflecting a steadfast dedication to a chosen path.

Community and Shared Purpose:
Grey’s commentary and the “In for the Long Haul” description emphasize community and collective purpose, with the adobe mission as a communal hub for shared values and goals. The Chandra symbol’s focus on integrating dualities (personal and collective selves) supports a sense of unity, aligning with the communal themes in the other interpretations.

Example: Grey’s focus on shared emotional realities and faith in belonging complements the “Long Haul” collective mission, while the two-headed calf’s integration fosters harmony within a broader context.

Spiritual Dimension:
Each description incorporates a spiritual aspect. Grey’s commentary stresses spiritual awareness as essential for stability, the Omega symbol highlights spiritual growth through sacrifice, and the “In for the Long Haul” description implies a sacred mission tied to enduring values. The Chandra symbol’s acceptance of duality also carries a spiritual undertone of inner wholeness.

Example: The spiritual purpose of the adobe mission (Grey) resonates with the vampire’s pursuit of higher purpose (Omega) and the mission’s sacred resolve (“Long Haul”).

Initiation and Purposeful Beginnings:
The “In for the Long Haul” description explicitly highlights initiation, with the mission as a bold new start. Grey’s commentary implies a starting point in building a lifestyle rooted in heritage, while the Omega/Chandra symbols suggest initiating transformation through sacrifice or integration.

Example: The “Long Haul” mission’s bold beginning aligns with Grey’s act of building a lasting home and the Omega’s decisive step into sunlight, each marking a purposeful start.

Differences
Tone and Energy:
Grey’s Commentary: The tone is grounded, communal, and reflective, blending practical endurance with emotional and spiritual depth. It focuses on stability and character-building.

Omega/Chandra Symbol: The tone is intense, transformative, and introspective, with a dramatic (vampire) or unusual (two-headed calf) energy. It emphasizes personal change and inner conflict resolution.

“In for the Long Haul”: The tone is idealistic, resolute, and action-oriented, focusing on collective commitment and bold initiation.

Example: Grey’s stable, reflective tone contrasts with the Omega’s dramatic intensity and the “Long Haul” proactive resolve, highlighting different emotional textures.

Focus of Action:
Grey’s Commentary: The focus is on sustaining a lifestyle through collective loyalty and defense of values, emphasizing long-term maintenance.

Omega/Chandra Symbol: The focus is personal, with transformation through internal sacrifice (Omega) or integration of dualities (Chandra), prioritizing inner growth.

“In for the Long Haul”: The focus is collective, with action oriented toward initiating and persevering in a shared mission.

Example: Grey’s maintenance of heritage differs from the Omega/Chandra’s personal transformation and the “Long Haul” collective initiation, reflecting varied scopes of action.

Approach to Challenges:
Grey’s Commentary: Challenges are met with endurance, spiritual awareness, and defense of values, warning against blind adherence to avoid stagnation.

Omega/Chandra Symbol: Challenges are addressed through transformative sacrifice (Omega) or acceptance of inner conflict (Chandra), embracing change to overcome fear.

“In for the Long Haul”: Challenges are tackled with resolute perseverance and bold commitment to a mission, emphasizing steadfast action.

Example: Grey’s cautious awareness contrasts with the Omega/Chandra’s radical transformation and the “Long Haul” determined follow-through, showing distinct strategies.

Emotional vs. Practical Emphasis:
Grey’s Commentary: Blends emotional vulnerability (faith, belonging) with practical endurance (building lasting structures), balancing both realms.

Omega/Chandra Symbol: Leans heavily emotional, with the vampire’s sacrifice and two-headed calf’s duality focusing on inner feelings and spiritual resolution.

“In for the Long Haul”: Emphasizes practical commitment, with the mission’s endurance and initiation grounded in actionable resolve.

Example: Grey’s emotional-practical balance differs from the Omega/Chandra’s emotional intensity and the “Long Haul” practical focus, highlighting varied priorities.

Conclusion
The three 0-1 Aquarius descriptions share likenesses in their emphasis on endurance, commitment, community, spiritual purpose, and initiation, reflecting a cohesive focus on lasting, meaningful endeavours. However, they differ in tone (reflective vs. intense vs. resolute), focus (sustaining lifestyle vs. personal transformation vs. collective mission), approach to challenges (awareness vs. sacrifice vs. perseverance), and emotional/practical balance. These variations highlight the multifaceted nature of 0-1 Aquarius, blending idealistic vision, transformative depth, and RESOLUTE ACTION in distinct yet complementary ways.

Standing up for our lifestyle deepens our character and inspires in us a faith that we belong

An old adobe mission is a traditional image of a real, robust answer to the problems of how to survive and make a living – which is required because we live within a testing environment. What helps to ensure our physical survival as a species is the durability of what protects us as individuals – and, to offer such shelter, these missions were constructed to be strong and permanent. They were more than resources to support settlers materially; the spiritual side was also central to their purpose.

There is an unbroken continuity between the certainty of our material needs and the depth of our psychological needs – simply because we are at risk physically, we are vulnerable emotionally. So, as we invest our loyalties into a certain approach to coping with the physicality of life, we inevitably align with shared emotional realities too – such as having faith that we belong.

How and where we build our home and place of worship not only speaks about our loyalties, preferences, history and expectations – it determines a great deal of what we become. The heritage of our enduring ties stands as a reminder of what has continuing value to us, and which must be neither neglected nor underrated if we are to realise our individual potential.

A compelling depth of character arises from the respect we assign to our heritage. It is almost inevitable that we will, at some point, be called upon to defend and protect what we think of as home, family and community. If we have nowhere to stand, then we cannot really stand for anything.

This deeper approach to life’s established values actually also gives rise to an effective breadth of vision. The future needs to unfold within particular parameters in order to keep alive the tradition we have adopted, and which has adopted us. Our choices about direction are made with reference to the past since we understand that a rich and deep history can underpin a rich and deep future.

One thing we need to be careful of is that such a complete observance of old ways can easily lead to a total lack of ambition, and also a blind adherence to superficialities that have been crystallised into community values. This can be avoided if we are always aware of who we are, what we are doing, and why.

An aware person is tested to remember their own true spiritual state at all times; this is a necessity for both an overall orientation and an underlying stability in all personal existence. In a world of deceit and illusion, where nothing is ever completely fixed in time, this presents a prodigious challenge.

Aquarius 1. Deciding to die, a vampire walks into the sunlight. (Omega Symbol) Manifesting/Experimental

(Degree Angel: YEZALEL (YAY-za-LEL) Heaven on Earth, Fidelity, Loyalty, and Allegiance)

This degree is about the sacrificing of personal desires to a higher purpose. When a way of life has worn itself out, its time for a change. The energy of this degree is about overcoming the fear of change, and letting go of old patterns. It wants to bring whatever is hidden to light, and to find a way to fulfill true spiritual needs.

The Chandra Symbol for this degree is “A two-headed calf.” We all have two selves – the conscious, objective self and the unconscious, or feeling self. Or, on an other level, (as Eckhard Tolle describes it), the true self and the pain body. This degree recognizes the divisions that exist within the self, as well as the need to acknowledge and respect all the various aspects of one's being. Whatever parts of ourselves we reject we inevitably come into conflict with, and the only way to resolve this conflict is to reach across our inner divisions and accept every aspect of who we are.

This degree carries the message that completely opposite ideas can peacefully co-exist, and actually have the potential to enhance and clarify each other.

Pleiadian Symbol: In the desert a way station to comfort travelers.

Azoth Symbol: Little scavengers seeking morsels.

Seed degree: Aries 11.A hospital for birds. (Omega Symbol). The healing of our hopes allows us to expose all inner shadows to the spiritual light.

Sunlight illuminating dust in the air. (Chandra Symbol). Perceiving the complexity and uncertainty of the physical world gives us a basis for perceiving dualities and dichotomies at work everywhere.

Fulfillment degree: Aries 26. A man sitting at the bottom of a crater. (Omega Symbol). Clearing inner darkness we then become able to be focused and receptive.

The man in the moon smiling. (Chandra Symbol). Completely accepting the dualistic nature of our existence brings peace and fulfillment to our emotional self.

Aquarius 1: An old adobe mission
In for the long haul...

Endurance is a characteristic of Aquarius 1. Think of the adobe missions built in the early settling of California. They still stand today.

As a human characteristic, endurance suggests that something worth pursuing is worth pursuing all the way. Looking to the fixed mate Scorpio symbol "A sight-seeing bus", we get the feeling of the expression, "You buy your ticket and you take your ride"... in other words, once you have committed to a bus ride, you tend to follow through on where it takes you.

Another thread of sense in Aquarius 1 is that of 'starting'. Indeed all 1st degree symbols point to a start of some kind. For Aquarius 30, the start is a 'mission'... something to set out for, to work on... that follows the decisions made in Capricorn 30.

So, imagine a powwow where a bold new policy or project is considered. Here in the 1st degree Aquarius, we find the resolve to get out there and make it happen.

broader turning point
Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions occurs every 12 years. Seeks truth, time for political, religious or philosophical movements that create economic changes:

2008 recession

The great depression of 1929

The early 90s economic crisis: Uranus-Neptune conjunct with a low planetary cyclical index.
The Jupiter-Saturn Conjunction of 2020: Context
Date and Degree: December 21, 2020, at 0°29' Aquarius—right at the cusp of the 1st degree (0°00'-0°59'). This was the closest conjunction of these planets since 1623 and their first in Aquarius since 1405, marking a rare shift.

Cycle: Jupiter and Saturn conjoin every 20 years, setting societal tones for two decades. The 2020 event ended a 200-year run of Earth-sign conjunctions (1802-2000) and began a 200-year Air-sign cycle (2020-2199), signaling a pivot from material (Earth) to intellectual/collective (Air) priorities.

Aquarius Flavor: At 0° Aquarius, this conjunction carried the sign’s raw essence—innovation, community, freedom, and disruption (Uranus), tempered by structure (Saturn).

Initial Impact (2020-2021)
Global Events:
COVID-19 Pivot: The conjunction coincided with vaccine rollouts (Pfizer-BioNTech approved December 2020)—a Jupiter (expansion) and Saturn (structure) solution via Aquarian tech and collective effort.

Tech Surge: Remote work, Zoom, and digital currencies (e.g., Bitcoin hit $29K by December 2020) exploded—Air-sign themes of connectivity and innovation.

Social Shifts: Protests (e.g., U.S. Capitol riot, January 6, 2021) and calls for reform reflected Aquarius’ rebellious streak, with Saturn enforcing limits (arrests, crackdowns).

Mundane Meaning: A new societal blueprint—Jupiter’s optimism (hope for recovery) met Saturn’s reality (lockdowns, rules), seeded at 0° Aquarius as a radical rethink of systems.

How It “Acts” at 0° Aquarius in 2025
The conjunction’s effects don’t vanish; they ripple through its 20-year cycle (next conjunction: 2040). At 0° Aquarius, it’s a fixed point—a “seed moment” reactivated when transits hit this degree (like Pluto now). Here’s how it’s unfolding:
Planetary Dynamics
Jupiter-Saturn Signature:
Jupiter: Growth, vision, expansion—pushing Aquarius’ ideals (freedom, tech, community) outward.

Saturn: Restriction, discipline, time—grounding those ideals in reality, often harshly.

At 0°: A pure, untested launch—big dreams (Jupiter) meet hard limits (Saturn), birthing something enduring but fraught.

Pluto’s Role (2024-2025):
Pluto entered Aquarius in March 2023, retrograded out, returned November 19, 2024, and hit 0° Aquarius exactly around late 2024-early 2025 (e.g., January 20, 2025, at 0°29'). It’s now amplifying the 2020 conjunction. Pluto transforms—destroying to rebuild—so the Jupiter-Saturn seed is undergoing a power surge or purge.

Effect: The 2020 vision (tech, society) faces a reckoning—systems born then (e.g., digital ID, remote economies) deepen or die.

Mundane Manifestation (March 2025)
Technology and Power:
The 2020 conjunction sparked digital leaps (5G, crypto, AI). Pluto at 0° Aquarius now intensifies this—think AI governance debates, blockchain centralization, or quantum tech breakthroughs. Jupiter’s optimism (open-source dreams) clashes with Saturn’s control (regulation), and Pluto forces a power shift (who owns it?).

Example: X posts in early 2025 might buzz about a tech monopoly crumbling or a decentralized platform rising—echoes of 2020’s seed.

Social Structures:
2020’s reform calls (racial justice, climate) get a Saturnian test—have they lasted? Pluto digs deeper—think grassroots movements morphing into radical collectives or governments cracking down harder. Aquarius’ community vibe (Jupiter) meets resistance (Saturn), with Pluto purging weak links.

Example: A global coalition (climate? human rights?) born in 2020 might solidify or fracture by mid-2025.

Economic Shifts:
Jupiter-Saturn in 2020 hinted at new financial paradigms (crypto, universal income talks). Pluto at 0° Aquarius could crash-test these—hyperinflation fears or a digital currency war. Saturn’s caution (2020’s lockdowns) meets Jupiter’s excess, with Pluto as the executioner or midwife.

Example: A nation might roll out a state-backed crypto by June 2025, rooted in 2020’s ideas.

Bardon and Leo’s Lens on This Conjunction
Since you asked about Franz Bardon and Alan Leo last, let’s filter the conjunction through their 0° Aquarius interpretations:
Franz Bardon
Interpretation: “The ignition of the electric spark of universal mind.”

Conjunction Fit: Bardon would see the 2020 event as a cosmic trigger—Jupiter (expansion) and Saturn (form) igniting Aquarius’ air at 0°, a mental leap for humanity. It’s raw potential—tech (Uranus) and structure (Saturn) birthing a new consciousness.

2025 Action: Pluto’s transit amplifies this spark into a wildfire—think a collective “aha” (e.g., AI sentience debates) or a disruptive idea reshaping society. Bardon might say it’s humanity inhaling Aquarius’ electric breath, exhaling transformation.

Alan Leo
Symbol: “A man standing upon a mountain, a crown upon his head, and a sword in his hand.”

Conjunction Fit: Leo would view 2020 as a crowning moment—Jupiter’s vision and Saturn’s discipline atop Aquarius’ peak, ready to lead. The sword is action; the crown, earned authority—a new societal order born.

2025 Action: Pluto at 0° Aquarius tests this king—will the crown hold? It might mean a leader (or system) from 2020 (e.g., a tech titan, a policy) rises further or falls. Leo’s “mental conquest” could manifest as a global figure wielding 2020’s ideals with force.

Comparison
Bardon: Esoteric, subtle—the conjunction’s a seed of thought, now electrified by Pluto.

Leo: Tangible, regal—it’s a crowned achievement, now challenged or empowered.

Overlap: Both see 0° Aquarius as a potent start—Bardon’s spark fuels Leo’s king.

How It Acts in 2025
The Jupiter-Saturn conjunction at 0° Aquarius (2020) planted a seed—Air-sign dreams of progress (Jupiter) within limits (Saturn). By March 2025, Pluto’s transit at this degree acts like fertilizer—or a plow:
Optimistic View: The 2020 vision matures—tech unites (Jupiter), structures stabilize (Saturn), and Pluto empowers (e.g., a decentralized web takes root).

Challenging View: Pluto uproots weak spots—2020’s hopes (Jupiter) face Saturn’s cracks, and power struggles ensue (e.g., surveillance vs. freedom).

Likely Blend: A bit of both—think a 2020-born idea (remote work, green tech) hitting a Pluto-fueled tipping point by mid-2025, reshaping society with force.

Final Picture
The 2020 Jupiter-Saturn conjunction at 0° Aquarius kicked off a 20-year cycle of collective reinvention. In 2025, with Pluto at this degree, it “acts” as a catalyst—amplifying the original spark (Bardon) or testing the crowned leader (Leo). Globally, it’s a pivot: tech, society, and power born in 2020 evolve or explode. By June 2025, we’ll see if it’s a new dawn or a reckoning—likely both.

Uranus in Aquarius

1 Aquatius

Mar. 6th, 2025 09:11 am
1. Degree Theory: The 1st Degree of Aquarius
Degree Theory, popularized by astrologers like Nikola Stojanovic, assigns specific meanings to each degree of the zodiac (0°-29° per sign), often linking them to the sign’s essence or a related sign’s energy. It’s a modern, intuitive system, not directly tied to Witte’s Uranian astrology but useful for pinpointing traits.
0° Aquarius: In Degree Theory, 0° of any sign is a “pure” expression of that sign’s energy—untainted by the previous sign (Capricorn here) or later degrees. Aquarius is ruled by Uranus (and traditionally Saturn), embodying innovation, rebellion, community, and futuristic thinking. At 0°, this is Aquarius at its rawest: a spark of genius, a break from tradition, or a sudden urge for freedom.

Stojanovic’s Twist: He linked degrees to zodiac signs (e.g., 0° is Aries-like, 1° is Taurus-like), but for sign-specific analysis, 0° Aquarius would still scream Aquarius—think a visionary loner or a radical idea bursting forth. It’s restless, electric, and uncompromising.

2. Sabian Symbols: 1st Degree of Aquarius (0°-1° Aquarius)
Sabian Symbols, channeled by Marc Edmund Jones and Elsie Wheeler in 1925, assign a unique image to each of the 360 degrees of the zodiac. They’re poetic, symbolic snapshots interpreted by astrologers like Dane Rudhyar and, relevant here, Diana Roche. The symbol for 0°-1° Aquarius (rounded to the 1st degree) is:
Symbol: “An old adobe mission in California”

Rudhyar’s Interpretation (from An Astrological Mandala, 1973): Rudhyar saw this as “the power inherent in all great human works to endure beyond the workers’ life spans” and “the projection of a noble ideal into concrete form.” It’s about lasting cultural or spiritual contributions—Aquarius as the visionary builder, blending Saturn’s structure with Uranus’ idealism. Keyword: Impressiveness.

Core Meaning: This degree reflects a pioneering spirit creating something enduring for the collective—a mission (literal or figurative) that stands against time. It’s less about rebellion here and more about legacy through innovation.

3. Diana E. Roche’s Take on 0° Aquarius
Diana E. Roche, in The Sabian Symbols: A Screen of Prophecy (1992), offers practical, modern spins on these symbols, often tying them to personal growth or societal trends. Her work builds on Rudhyar but is more grounded and application-focused.
Roche’s Interpretation: For “An old adobe mission in California”, Roche emphasizes “the establishment of a social ideal that transcends the limitations of time and space.” She sees it as a call to contribute to humanity through tangible acts—building something (physically or ideologically) that serves the group. She might frame it as: “You’re here to plant seeds for a future you won’t fully see—act with purpose.”

Mundane Lens: Roche often applied symbols to collective events. At 0° Aquarius, she’d likely point to societal shifts where tradition (adobe, old ways) meets progress (mission, outreach)—think cultural institutions or tech-driven communities forming in late 20th/early 21st-century California vibes.

Synthesis: What They Say About 1st Degree of Aquarius
Here’s how these frameworks converge and diverge on 0° Aquarius:
Degree Theory: Highlights the raw Aquarian essence—unfiltered innovation, a jolt of independence, or a fresh start in collective thinking. It’s the “Eureka!” moment—pure potential, untamed by experience.
Flavor: Electric, forward-looking, a bit chaotic—like a inventor’s first sketch.

Sabian Symbol (Rudhyar): Adds depth with the mission image—Aquarius isn’t just wild here; it’s purposeful, leaving a mark. It’s less about the lone genius and more about what endures for the group.
Flavor: Structured idealism, a bridge between past and future—think a rebel with a cause.

Diana Roche: Grounds it in action—0° Aquarius is where vision meets effort. She’d stress building something real (a community, a movement) that outlasts the moment, aligning with Aquarius’ humanitarian streak.
Flavor: Practical futurism—less flash, more foundation.

Mundane Impact (Global Context, March 2025)
Since we’ve explored mundane astrology earlier, let’s apply this to the world now:
Degree Theory: Suggests a global surge of new ideas—tech breakthroughs (AI? Space?) or social reforms hitting in early 2025, raw and untested.

Sabian/Roche: Points to lasting initiatives—maybe a climate pact, a digital commons, or a cultural revival (California as a tech/art hub?) taking root. With Neptune entering Aries soon (March 30, 2025), this could tie to dreamy yet concrete collective projects.

Final Picture
The 1st degree of Aquarius (0°) is a launchpad: Degree Theory sees it as a burst of Aquarian rebellion and brilliance; Sabian Symbols (via Rudhyar) frame it as a noble, enduring vision; Roche makes it a call to build for the collective future. Together, it’s a moment of radical clarity—disruptive, yes, but aiming to leave a legacy. Think a revolutionary idea (Mercury-Uranus spark from your last question) finding a communal home (Cupido), now etched in adobe for the ages.
Does this hit the mark? Want me to tweak it—say, for a personal chart or a specific event?

1. Sepharial (Walter Gorn Old) - La Volasfera Translation
Sepharial, a 19th-20th century astrologer, translated La Volasfera (a medieval degree symbol set attributed to Antonio Borelli) and published it in The Degrees of the Zodiac Symbolized (1898). His symbols are vivid and often morally tinged.
Symbol for 0°-1° Aquarius: “A man standing at the junction of two roads, not knowing which way to go.”

Interpretation: Sepharial describes this as indecision or a pivotal choice point. It suggests a person (or collective) facing a fork—freedom (Aquarius) hangs in the balance, but clarity is elusive. The Aquarian urge for independence meets a moment of hesitation, reflecting the sign’s intellectual wrestling with direction.

Mundane Vibe: Globally, this could signal a society at a crossroads—new ideologies or technologies emerge, but the path forward is uncertain (e.g., early internet debates in the 1990s).

2. Adriano Carelli - The 360 Degrees of the Zodiac
Carelli, an Italian astrologer, published his degree interpretations in 1950 (English edition 2004), blending symbolism, psychology, and historical nuance. His work is detailed and personality-focused.
Symbol for 0° Aquarius: “A man with a torch in his hand, groping his way through a dark cave.”

Interpretation: Carelli paints a seeker of truth—Aquarius as the innovator piercing the unknown. This degree suggests boldness tempered by obscurity; the torch is knowledge or rebellion, but the cave implies isolation or struggle. It’s a pioneer who lights the way for others, often alone. Positive aspects enhance genius; negative ones hint at eccentricity or futility.

Mundane Vibe: A nation or movement forging ahead with a radical idea (e.g., renewable energy pushes) despite resistance or unclear outcomes.

3. Charubel (John Thomas) - Degrees of the Zodiac Symbolized
Charubel, a Welsh clairvoyant, published his degree symbols in 1893 via Alan Leo’s magazine. His interpretations are psychic, direct, and often spiritual.
Symbol for 0°-1° Aquarius: “A triangle with an eye in the center.”

Interpretation: Charubel sees this as a mystical degree—an all-seeing awareness or divine insight. It’s Aquarius as the visionary, tapped into universal consciousness. He might say, “Thou art gifted with perception beyond the veil—use it wisely.” It’s less about action, more about revelation.

Mundane Vibe: A global awakening—think a sudden collective realization (e.g., climate urgency in the 21st century) or a prophetic cultural shift.

4. Isidore Kozminsky - Zodiacal Symbology and Its Planetary Power
Kozminsky, an Australian occultist, released his symbols in 1917. His degrees are poetic, tied to planetary vibrations (here, Uranus), and often karmic.
Symbol for 0°-1° Aquarius: “A man standing on a mountain peak, with the sun rising behind him, holding a staff in his right hand.”

Interpretation: Kozminsky links this to Uranus, emphasizing elevation and enlightenment. It’s the Aquarian ideal—rising above, illuminated by new beginnings. The staff suggests authority or guidance; the sunrise is hope or revolution. He notes it favors “those who aspire to lead humanity.”

Mundane Vibe: A leader or movement emerges—think a tech visionary (Elon Musk type) or a radical policy shifting global tides.

5. Esther Leinbach - Degrees of the Zodiac
Leinbach’s Degrees of the Zodiac (1973) offers practical, modern takes, often focusing on personality and life themes.
Symbol for 0° Aquarius: “A group of people gathered around a campfire in the desert at night.”

Interpretation: Leinbach sees this as community in isolation—Aquarius’ collective spirit shining in a stark setting. It’s about unity through shared ideals, perhaps unconventional ones. She might suggest adaptability and warmth amidst detachment—Aquarius bridging the personal and universal.

Mundane Vibe: Global subcultures unite—think online communities or grassroots movements (e.g., crypto enthusiasts) finding solidarity.

6. Matthew Weber - Fixed Stars and Degrees of the Zodiac Analyzed
Weber’s work (circa 1970s) is less mainstream and harder to pin down precisely, as he focused on fixed stars and degrees with a practical bent. His interpretations are sparse, but he often tied degrees to stellar influences.
Symbol/Interpretation for 0° Aquarius: No exact symbol is widely attributed, but Weber might link this degree to a fixed star like Altair (at ~1° Aquarius), the eagle in Aquila. He’d describe it as “ambition soaring high, with a sharp eye for progress.” It’s Aquarius as the strategist—detached, forward-thinking, and goal-driven.

Mundane Vibe: A nation or group leverages innovation for power—think aerospace advances or strategic tech rollouts (e.g., satellite networks).

Synthesis: 1st Degree of Aquarius Across These Systems
Common Threads:
Visionary Energy: All six highlight Aquarius’ futuristic streak—Sepharial’s crossroads, Carelli’s torch, Charubel’s eye, Kozminsky’s sunrise, Leinbach’s campfire, Weber’s eagle. It’s a degree of seeing or seeking what’s next.

Tension of Newness: There’s struggle or isolation—indecision (Sepharial), a dark cave (Carelli), a lone peak (Kozminsky)—balanced by collective potential (Charubel, Leinbach).

Leadership vs. Community: Kozminsky and Weber lean toward individual brilliance; Leinbach and Charubel emphasize the group—Aquarius’ duality shines.

Differences:
Tone: Sepharial’s is uncertain, Carelli’s gritty, Charubel’s mystical, Kozminsky’s triumphant, Leinbach’s cozy, Weber’s pragmatic.

Focus: Personal struggle (Carelli, Sepharial) vs. spiritual/universal (Charubel) vs. collective action (Leinbach).

Mundane Take (March 2025): With Pluto at 0° Aquarius now (exact in late 2024-early 2025), this degree’s active. Expect a global push—new tech (Carelli’s torch, Kozminsky’s sunrise) meets societal crossroads (Sepharial), sparking unity (Leinbach) or insight (Charubel). Weber’s ambition could mean power plays; Pluto amplifies it all.

Final Picture
The 1st degree of Aquarius, per these astrologers, is a flashpoint—raw innovation wrestling with direction, purpose, and connection. It’s a rebel with a torch (Carelli), a mystic eye (Charubel), a dawn-lit leader (Kozminsky), or a campfire circle (Leinbach)—all navigating Aquarius’ electric unknown. Sepharial’s indecision and Weber’s eagle add nuance: it’s both hesitant and soaring.

You’ve asked about additional astrologers’ interpretations of the 1st degree of Aquarius (0° Aquarius), building on our previous discussions. I’ll cover Matthews (likely Matthew or Matthews Muir), Muir (assuming a distinct figure), Janduz, Franz Bardon, Ellias Lonsdale, David Cochrane, and John Sandbach, focusing on their takes on this degree. =========================================================

Matthews (Matthews Muir?) - Degrees of the Zodiac
There’s ambiguity here—Matthews might be a typo for Matthew Weber (already covered) or refer to Matthews Muir, a less-documented astrologer sometimes conflated with Muir below. Assuming Matthews Muir aligns with Degrees of the Zodiac traditions:
Symbol: No specific Matthews Muir text isolates 0° Aquarius, but his style (if akin to Weber or Leinbach) favors practical imagery. Likely: “A lone figure gazing at the stars from a cliff.”

Interpretation: Emphasizes Aquarius’ visionary solitude—someone detached yet inspired, seeking universal truth. It’s about initiating a personal quest with collective implications.

Mundane Vibe: A nation or leader stepping into uncharted territory—think a space program launch or a radical policy shift in early 2025.

2. Muir (Assuming Henry W. Muir) - Symbolic Degrees
Henry W. Muir’s work, if distinct, is obscure but often grouped with early 20th-century symbolists like Charubel. No definitive 0° Aquarius symbol exists, but his style leans mystical.
Symbol: Hypothetical: “A crystal reflecting a single beam of light.”

Interpretation: Muir might see this as pure intellect (Aquarius) refracting divine insight—clarity born from detachment. It’s a starting point of illumination, subtle yet profound.

Mundane Vibe: A global epiphany—perhaps a scientific discovery (e.g., quantum tech) sparking debate in 2025.

3. Janduz - Les 360 Degrés du Zodiaque
Janduz (Jeanne Duzéa) published her degree symbols in 1930s France, blending Volasfera, fixed stars, and Kabbalistic influences. Her work was translated and reshuffled from Sepharial’s sources.
Symbol for 0°-1° Aquarius: “A man sitting on a heap of stones, watching children playing nearby.”

Interpretation: Janduz sees this as contemplation amid simplicity—Aquarius’ humanitarian eye observing potential (children) from a detached perch (stones). It’s wisdom poised to act, with a hint of melancholy or patience.

Mundane Vibe: A society reflecting on youth-driven change—think Gen Z activism or tech revolutions in 2025, watched by older powers.

4. Franz Bardon - The Key to the True Kabbalah (Esoteric Lens)
Bardon, a Czech occultist (1909-1958), didn’t write zodiac degree symbols but linked astrology to Kabbalistic and elemental forces. His view would be esoteric, not symbolic like Sabian.
Interpretation for 0° Aquarius: Aquarius is air (intellect), ruled by Uranus (sudden insight). At 0°, Bardon might see it as the “initiation of the mental spark”—a cosmic trigger for awakening via the letter “A” (air, creativity in his system). It’s raw energy, unformed but potent.

Mundane Vibe: A global surge in consciousness—perhaps a breakthrough in AI or collective thought (e.g., hive-mind tech) aligning with Pluto at 0° Aquarius now.

5. Ellias Lonsdale - Inside Degrees & 360 Degrees of Your Star Destiny
Lonsdale’s Chandra Symbols (inspired by John Sandbach) and Star Sparks offer poetic, soul-level insights.
Chandra Symbol for 0°-1° Aquarius: “Deciding to die, a vampire walks into the sunlight.”

Interpretation: Lonsdale calls this “Manifesting/Experimental”—sacrificing old ways (vampire) for a higher purpose (sunlight). It’s Aquarius shedding tradition for radical rebirth, a bold leap into the unknown.

Mundane Vibe: A nation or culture ditches outdated systems—think fossil fuels for renewables or centralized power for decentralization in 2025.

6. David Cochrane - Astrological Research
Cochrane, a modern astrologer, focuses on harmonics and empirical analysis, not symbolic degrees per se. His approach is technical, but he’d interpret via Aquarius’ traits.
Interpretation for 0° Aquarius: Cochrane might see this as the “pure frequency of Aquarius”—innovation, detachment, and collective focus at its inception. Harmonically, it’s a starting vibration, untested but charged with potential.

Mundane Vibe: A measurable shift—think data showing a spike in global tech adoption or social reform metrics peaking early 2025.

7. John Sandbach - The Chandra Symbols
Sandbach channeled the Chandra Symbols in 1983, later refined with Lonsdale. His original work is concrete yet magical.
Chandra Symbol for 0°-1° Aquarius: “Deciding to die, a vampire walks into the sunlight.” (Same as Lonsdale’s, as he built on it.)

Sandbach’s Original Take: In Degree Analyses Part II, he might’ve seen this as “extreme measures for transformation”—a willingness to burn away the past for a collective good. It’s less poetic than Lonsdale, more direct.

Mundane Vibe: A sudden global pivot—e.g., a policy or tech leap (like quantum computing) forcing adaptation in 2025.

Synthesis: 1st Degree of Aquarius
Shared Themes:
New Beginnings: All see 0° Aquarius as a launch—Matthews’ quest, Muir’s light, Janduz’s contemplation, Bardon’s spark, Lonsdale/Sandbach’s sacrifice, Cochrane’s frequency.

Tension: Choice (Matthews), struggle (Janduz), or sacrifice (Lonsdale/Sandbach) mark the transition—Aquarius’ freedom isn’t free.

Collective Potential: Muir’s crystal, Bardon’s air, Leinbach’s campfire (from last round), and Janduz’s children hint at a group destiny.

Differences:
Tone: Matthews and Kozminsky (from before) are heroic; Janduz reflective; Lonsdale/Sandbach dramatic; Bardon esoteric; Cochrane clinical.

Focus: Personal (Matthews, Janduz) vs. universal (Bardon, Lonsdale) vs. technical (Cochrane).

Mundane Lens (March 2025): With Pluto at 0° Aquarius now, this degree’s active. Expect a global turning point—tech breakthroughs (Cochrane, Bardon), cultural shifts (Lonsdale, Sandbach), or strategic pauses (Janduz, Matthews). It’s a world choosing its future, torch in hand (Carelli) or eye open (Charubel).

Final Picture
0° Aquarius is a threshold: a hesitant seeker (Matthews), a quiet sage (Janduz), a cosmic initiate (Bardon), a dying vampire reborn (Lonsdale/Sandbach), a harmonic pulse (Cochrane), a refracted gleam (Muir). It’s Aquarius’ first breath—raw, radical, ready to reshape the collective. Pluto’s presence now (2025) amplifies it into a global “now or never” moment.

ranz Bardon: Deeper Exploration of 0° Aquarius
Franz Bardon (1909-1958), a Czech occultist, didn’t publish explicit zodiac degree symbols like the Sabian or Chandra astrologers. His works—Initiation Into Hermetics (1956), The Practice of Magical Evocation (1956), and The Key to the True Kabbalah (1957)—focus on practical magic, Kabbalah, and elemental correspondences rather than degree-by-degree astrology. However, his system integrates astrology as a cosmic framework, so we can infer his view of 0° Aquarius based on Aquarius’ rulerships (Uranus, traditionally Saturn), its air element, and its Kabbalistic resonance.
Bardon’s Framework
Aquarius as Air: In Bardon’s elemental system, Aquarius is pure air—intellect, movement, and the “electric fluid” (a dynamic, active force akin to Uranus’ energy). At 0°, this is air’s genesis—unformed, potent, and initiatory.

Uranus’ Influence: Bardon associates Uranus with sudden insight, genius, and disruption—less a planet, more a cosmic principle of change. At 0° Aquarius, it’s the first spark of this force, untainted by prior signs.

Kabbalistic Lens: In The Key to the True Kabbalah, Bardon links letters to cosmic vibrations. Aquarius aligns with “A” (air, creativity, the breath of life) and “Sh” (fire of spirit, transformation). At 0°, “A” dominates—pure mental inception.

Degree as Initiation: Bardon saw the zodiac as a progression of consciousness. 0° Aquarius marks the soul’s entry into collective awareness—freedom through thought, unshackled from Capricorn’s material limits.

Interpretation of 0° Aquarius
Core Meaning: “The ignition of the electric spark of universal mind.” This degree is a metaphysical trigger—raw intellectual energy breaking through, like lightning in a void. It’s not a symbol (like Sabian’s mission) but a state: the moment intuition meets cosmic truth.

Qualities: Suddenness (Uranus), clarity (air), and potential (0° as a beginning). It’s less about action, more about the potential for revolution—mental liberation poised to ripple outward.

Esoteric Practice: Bardon might advise meditating on this degree with the “A” sound (pronounced “ah”) to tap its vibration—unlocking genius or astral insight.

Mundane Application (March 2025): With Pluto at 0° Aquarius now, Bardon might see a global “awakening pulse”—a tech leap (AI consciousness?) or a collective psychic shift, raw and unrefined. It’s humanity inhaling a new idea, ready to exhale change.

Alan Leo: Interpretation of 1° Aquarius
Alan Leo (1860-1917), a British theosophist and “father of modern astrology,” blended traditional astrology with esoteric philosophy. He published degree interpretations in The Degrees of the Zodiac Symbolized (1898), collaborating with Charubel (whose “triangle with an eye” we covered earlier). Leo’s own take often diverges, reflecting his symbolic and spiritual focus. For 0°-1° Aquarius, he provides a distinct image.
Leo’s Framework
Aquarius’ Essence: Leo saw Aquarius as the “Water-Bearer”—humanity pouring out wisdom, ruled by Uranus (progress) and Saturn (structure). At 0°, it’s the sign’s purest expression—idealism meets discipline.

Theosophical Spin: Influenced by Blavatsky, Leo viewed degrees as soul lessons or karmic markers, not just events.

Symbolism: His degrees are less psychic (like Charubel) and more allegorical, aiming for universal meaning.

Symbol for 0°-1° Aquarius
Symbol: “A man standing upon a mountain, a crown upon his head, and a sword in his hand.”

Interpretation: Leo describes this as “power through aspiration”—a figure who’s risen above, blending Aquarius’ vision (crown) with action (sword). The mountain is detachment; the crown, mastery of ideals; the sword, readiness to defend or enact them. It’s a kingly yet progressive energy—authority earned through insight, not birth. Leo notes it’s “a degree of leadership and conquest through mental effort.”

Qualities: Nobility, command, and forward-thinking—Aquarius as the enlightened ruler, not just the rebel.

Mundane Application (March 2025): A leader or movement emerges—think a tech mogul, climate activist, or policy maker wielding influence with a bold, unifying idea. Pluto at 0° Aquarius could amplify this into a global power shift.

Comparison: Bardon vs. Leo on 0° Aquarius
Similarities
Visionary Spark: Both see 0° Aquarius as a starting point of higher awareness—Bardon’s “electric mind” and Leo’s “crowned aspirant” share a breakthrough vibe.

Uranian Influence: Suddenness and innovation (Uranus) underpin each—Bardon’s cosmic jolt, Leo’s mental conquest.

Collective Potential: Bardon’s universal mind and Leo’s leadership hint at impacting the many—Aquarius’ humanitarian streak shines.

Differences
Tone and Focus:
Bardon: Esoteric, abstract—0° Aquarius is a vibration, a potential energy field. It’s pre-manifestation, felt more than seen.

Leo: Symbolic, tangible—a concrete image of achievement. It’s post-struggle, a victory embodied.

Agency:
Bardon: Passive potency—humanity receives or taps into this spark; it’s a cosmic gift, not earned.

Leo: Active triumph—the man has climbed, crowned himself, and wields power through effort.

Expression:
Bardon: Internal, metaphysical—think a silent “aha” moment rippling outward (e.g., a scientist’s eureka in 2025).

Leo: External, authoritative—think a visible leader or policy enacted (e.g., a UN resolution in 2025).

Mundane Flavor:
Bardon: Subtle, unseen shifts—Pluto at 0° Aquarius might spark a global consciousness leap (e.g., decentralized tech uniting minds).

Leo: Bold, visible moves—Pluto could crown a new “king” of innovation or reform (e.g., a figurehead driving change).

Overlap with Prior Systems
Bardon aligns with Charubel’s “triangle eye” (mystical insight) and Muir’s “crystal” (pure light)—all esoteric, inward.

Leo echoes Kozminsky’s “man on a peak” (leadership, dawn) and Matthews’ “star-gazer” (aspiration)—more heroic, outward.

Final Picture
Bardon’s 0° Aquarius: A cosmic whisper—the first breath of Aquarian air, electric and unbound, igniting universal thought. It’s the seed of genius, waiting.

Leo’s 0° Aquarius: A crowned conqueror—Aquarius as the victor of its own ideals, standing tall to lead. It’s the seed sprouted, commanding.

March 2025: With Pluto here, Bardon’s spark could be humanity’s next big idea (AI? Space?), while Leo’s king might be its face—a leader or movement stepping up.

Which vibe resonates more—Bardon’s mystic pulse or Leo’s regal rise? Want to explore either further, maybe with Pluto’s current role?

Pholus “the lid comes off”
Posted on 11/20/2020
| By Mary Plumb
I’m looking again at the centaur Pholus.

Herakles and Pholus 520 BCE
British Museum

Pholus, known in astronomical nomenclature as a centaur — a sub-category within the minor planet category — was discovered in January 1992. Named for mythological centaurs, Pholus (and Nessus, discovered in 1993) are connected to the most gifted centaur, Chiron. (1) Chiron was discovered in 1977 and traveled alone until his companions began to be sighted. There are now more than 100 minor planets, but Pholus and Nessus were the first to be discovered. They share some of Chiron’s unique astronomical properties — they come from outside our solar system and have highly elliptical orbits.

The bodies from “outside our solar system” are boundary crossers — they cross the boundaries of the orbits of Saturn and Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. As such, they are connected to transgressing, going past established norms or limits, or having experiences outside of ordinary time and space. In client work, the positions of Nessus and Pholus can be seen in the storylines of those working with generational issues, and may reveal a heretofore hidden ancestral pattern. These visitors from the great beyond can help establish a large enough container to create the space to work the complex, multi-faceted and invisible experiences that many experience. Those drawn to shamanic practices, ancestral healing and soul retrieval work are in the realms where the centaurs dwell.

To focus on Pholus, his orbit is between Saturn and Neptune and part of his mythic story is connected to wine. Pholus was the guardian of a special wine that gets uncorked prematurely, creating a temporarily wildly intoxicating and chaotic situation. It can be seen as describing a process that gets “uncorked” or released, and it cannot be put back. Melanie Reinhart, my friend and mentor in these matters, has famously said of Pholus: “The lid comes off.”

When I remember those words, I always think of a client who was embroiled in a very painful situation, marked by the presence of Pholus in family members’ natal, solar return, and progressed charts. My heartbroken client said, “I just want things to go back to the way they were.” In this situation, things were not going “to go back,” as what had seemed like an insignificant act on his part had unleashed an unweildy process.

This especially poignant moment in the counseling room evoked the myth: Pholus died by a self-inflicted and accidental wound from the poison on the tip of one of Hercules’s arrows.

The association with the tip of the arrow leading to unseen consequences also connects Pholus (described by Robert von Heeren) to “small cause and a big effect” — small decisions or actions that precipitate lasting and unforeseen events.

And now, back to the obituary — it is for writer Johanna Harcourt-Smith. She was born on January 13, 1946 and died on October 12, 2020. (2) She was born with the Sun conjunct Pholus at 22°- 23° Capricorn.

Johanna Harcourt-Smith

sunrise chart, no birthtime

She was a poet, author, psychedelic activist and companion of Timothy Leary. She was 26 when she began “began an intense romantic odyssey that lasted from 1972 to 1977.” At the age if 30, they had separated and she was “ready to start her life over.”

In 2013, she published her memoir, Tripping the Bardo With Timothy Leary: My Psychedelic Love Story. She wrote that it took her three decades to absorb and “compost” her experience with him. “I followed him off that precipice, and my family, nationality and sanity were fragmented beyond recognition.”

The connection between Pholus as the lid coming off and small cause and a big effect seems very congruent with LSD, where as “little as 20 micrograms can produce a noticeable effect.” (3)

(Timothy Leary’s Ascendant is 9°50’ Sagittarius with Pholus sitting right there at 13°03’ Sagittarius.) (4)

Ms. Harcourt-Smith passed away at home as transiting Jupiter and Pluto was at 22° Capricorn, with Jupiter at 18° and Saturn at 25° Capricorn, all of which triggered the natal cardinal T-square.

Errol Morris’s documentary based on her life is scheduled to air on Showtime on November 29.

Transiting Pholus is in Capricorn from October 2019 until 2040. Pholus has also been connected with viruses (aka, small cause, big effect). See Melanie Reinhart’s extensive research on Coronavirus.

Have a good week everyone, I know we are all doing the best we can to enjoy each moment of our often strange circumstances. Stay safe. Stay kind. I’m glad we’re all here together.

SINKING INTO THE MYSTERY
Though we strain and struggle to establish our self-importance and ego gratification, it's lovely to just let go into the Infinite Mystery

"Surrendering self-importance"

The busyness of the world and much of the intended outcomes of Society's rules and practices take us far away from our origins. Way back before time we have ancestral influences from sea creatures, when living beings had little or no sense of individuality but tuned into their species and the general Mother principle. It is important for us occasionally to refresh the deepest memories of this primordial aspect of self - then we are nothing more than a mere grain of sand in the general population, whose obscure purpose is to bring form to something mysterious from which we come.

An Historical Perspective on

The Jupiter-Uranus Conjunction of April 2024

Astrologer Maureen Richmond, Ph.D.

In late April of 2024, the planets Jupiter and Uranus will arrive at the 22nd degree of Taurus, forming a conjunction of historic importance. A conjunction of these two planets only forms once approximately every fourteen years. When it does so, cultural and personal sparks fly. In fact, this planetary pair cycle has particular relevance for society as a whole and for the actualization of individual potential.

The effect on the individual chart depends upon the aspects made from the conjunction at 22 degrees of Taurus to the positions in the individual natal chart. This can only be determined with the use of a properly calculated personal chart. However, the effect on society as a whole can be approached simply from a consideration of the planets and the sign involved in the conjunction itself.

In society and culture at large, the effects of the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction spring from the expansive, unbounded, prosperous, optimistic, and even excessive impact of Jupiter combined with the paradigm-busting, innovative, rebellious, genius-activating, extraordinary and extra-planetary impact of Uranus, all flavored by the sign in which the conjunction occurs. To understand what these two planetary powers have historically begat when in conjunction, an overview of Jupiter-Uranus conjunctions which occurred in the last century is in order.

Implications

As is apparent from this brief bird’s eye view of the last century or so of Jupiter-Uranus conjunctions, the occurrence of this configuration correlates to stunning and game-changing developments in at least six major categories of social and cultural experience.

Air Travel and Space Exploration, including developments in commercial air travel in 1914 with the conjunction in aviation-related Aquarius, the battles fought by air in WWII under the 1941 conjunction in territory-conscious Taurus, the first American four-stage rocket launched in the conjunction of 1954, the development of nuclear missiles with the 1955 conjunction in security-oriented Cancer, the space flight projects of NASA during the 1968 conjunction in air sign Libra, the Japanese satellite launch during the 1983 conjunction in travel-oriented Sagittarius, the emphasis on the Hubble Space Telescope under the 1997 conjunction in scientific and technological Aquarius, the discovery of a new star with the 2011 conjunction in cosmic Pisces, and finally, the massive push toward the use of communication satellites as the conjunction of 2024 shapes up.

Innovations in Communication Technology, including the introduction of the first television receiver and transatlantic phone connection under the 1928 conjunction in pioneering Aries, the first programmable computer introduced under the 1941 conjunction in profit-oriented Taurus, the first commercially-viable transistor radio introduced during the 1954 conjunction in mass-minded Cancer, the appearance of the computer mouse, hypertext, and first communications satellite with the 1968 conjunction in human relations-oriented Libra, and the early beginnings of the internet under the 1983 conjunction in knowledge-oriented and international Sagittarius.

Armed Conflict and Weapons Development, including the paroxysm of World War during the 1941 conjunction in possessive and territorial Taurus, the development of nuclear weapons with the 1954-1955 conjunction in protective and defensive Cancer, nuclear tests pursued by the U.S. in the Nevada desert during the 1968 conjunction in sometimes contentious Libra, and the proliferation of nuclear weapons testing by the U.S. and U.S.S.R. during the 1983 conjunction in sometimes excessive Sagittarius.

Natural Disasters, including the devastating effects of Hurricane Hazel on the East Coast of the U.S. during the 1954 conjunction in water sign Cancer, the 1969 earthquake in China which registered 6.4 on the Richter Scale during the conjunction in tension-adjusting Libra, the 1997 earthquake in Iran during the conjunction in the populace-oriented sign of Aquarius, and the powerful earthquake of 7.1 on the Richter Scale which occurred in the island nation of New Zealand under the 2010 conjunction in mutable and shifting water-surrounded Pisces.

Social Change, as signified by the occurrence of the countercultural youth festival known as Woodstock closely following the 1969 Jupiter-Uranus conjunction, the first radio broadcast of Hearts of Space, a New Age music program during the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction of 1983, the appointment of the first female Secretary of State in the U.S. during the 1997 Jupiter-Uranus conjunction, and the first election of a female Prime Minister in Australia during the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction of 2010.

Mass UFO Sightings and Encounters, represented by the Cape Girardeau Incident which took place shortly after the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction of 1941, the European UFO Wave and the Italian Soccer Armada Incident with the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction of 1954, the Romanian sighting during the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction of 1969, and the Hudson Valley Sightings which closely followed the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction of 1983.

The implication is that in the several months surrounding the coming conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus in April of 2024, similar effects can confidently be expected.

Stated simply, the effects of the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in April 2024 will be as follows. It will accelerate evolutionary developments by sparking action in the areas of:

Air Travel and Space Exploration

Innovations in Communication Technology

Armed Conflict and Weapons Development

Natural Disasters

Social Change

Mass UFO Sightings and Encounters

As the can-do spirit of Jupiter merges with the explosive potential of Uranus in the asset-oriented sign of Taurus, expect rapid and astounding developments in finance, money, earning power, investments, resources drawn from the earth, and material holdings. In fact, the whole power of the materialist paradigm is likely to be challenged.

The fun has hardly begun. Many will discover new methods of attracting substance. Foundations may be shaken, quite literally, both by tectonic and evolutionary forces. Structures will be destroyed and re-created, both physically and mentally. Anything rigid and unyielding will be exposed for its resistance to change, innovation, and freedom of thought. A blast of creative energy is shortly to impact the collective human consciousness.

The world stands on the verge of yet another evolutionary nudge forward. It is certain to be driven by the activation of thought and motivation consequent on the merging of planetary forces in the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction of April 2024.

Why just then is a question frequently raised in ufo circles. In other words, what makes ufo encounters occur at some times but not at others? A variation of this question comes in the form when will I see a ufo, or another ufo? Both versions of the question center on the notion of happenings in time and the ever present conundrum - what makes events take place at one point in time, but not at another.

The science of astrology is uniquely positioned to respond to that musing. Since its inception in the ancient Mediterranean world, astrology has been a science of timing. It arose for the express purpose of keeping time via celestial observation. It then evolved into a method for predicting celestial events and identifying the specific points in future time at which dramatic celestial events (such as eclipses of the Moon and Sun) would take place. Throughout the more than four thousand years during which some type of western astrology has existed, a central objective within its practice has been the effort to pinpoint times when specific developments would materialize as a result of astrological activations.

The astrological tool kit includes numerous methods of measurement for that purpose. Among them is a consideration of the points in time at which the planetary bodies of the solar system appear to stand still. These points are called stations. Yes, that’s the word: stations – like radio stations, tv stations, fire stations, battle stations, changing stations, and service stations, except in this case, it's planetary stations, which are actually nothing like the other earthly versions just mentioned. Instead, planetary stations are a feature of celestial observation. Planetary stations occur when a celestial body stops either its normal forward motion in the zodiac, or its apparent backward motion in the zodiac. The appearance of forward and retrograde motion is a normal occurrence. Stopping one direction of apparent motion and going to the other constitutes the all-powerful stationary moment.

Apparent forward motion in the zodiac is caused by the normal progress of a planetary body around the solar system. Apparent retrograde motion in the zodiac is caused by the concentric arrangement of the planetary orbits in the solar system, which inevitably allows for perspectives (or lines of sight) which make it appear from the position of one body that another body has ceased its normal forward orbital motion and has taken on reverse or retrograde motion.

In between those two phases are the planetary stations. The retrograde station happens when a celestial body appears to cease its normal forward motion. The direct station happens when a celestial body appears to stop its apparent backward motion and resume forward motion. Planetary stations are a regular feature of motion in the heavens tracked by both astrology and astronomy. Hence, it isn’t just astrologers who remark upon the stations of the planets, for astronomers do so as well. It’s because the planetary stations are a normal fact of life in the solar system.

As viewed from planet Earth, the outer planets Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, and Jupiter all experience one retrograde station and one direct station per Earth year. Mars experiences one retrograde station and one direct station approximately every two Earth years. Venus experiences one retrograde station and one direct station once every eighteen Earth months. Mercury experiences three retrograde and three direct stations in most calendar years (though sometimes there is a fourth). The Sun and the Moon are never seen in retrograde motion from Earth and so do not ever have any stationary moments in the zodiac, which is to say, as perceived from Earth.

Some astrologers feel that the planetary stations are the strongest and most refined applications of planetary energy possible. This means that at a planetary station, the energies and issues of that particular planetary archetype are amplified, magnified, and projected with great force into the affairs of planet Earth.

On May 2, 2024, at 12:46 pm CDT, Pluto will make a retrograde station at 2 degrees of Aquarius, effectively standing still in zodiacal motion and then assuming apparent backward motion in the zodiac. It will do so from the space flight and anomalistic sign of Aquarius, ruler of all things unusual, eccentric, and far out. What might such an astrological impact indicate?

Interestingly, a number of well-known historical ufo encounters have occurred within a few hours or days of planetary stations. The same might happen right away. Here’s some history on the synchronicity of planetary stations and ufo encounters.

Three Stations of Mercury

Three historical ufo encounters demonstrate the power of Mercury stations.

First, consider an encounter which occurred in the Middle East. Starting from November 9 and running through December 14, 1978, oil field equipment in the country of Kuwait suffered continual electronic disturbance and disruption by the presence of multiple ufos during eight major and distinguishable events.[1] Throughout most of the period operations were interrupted, Mercury was retrograde. Mercury made a station and turned direct on December 15, 1978, at 5 degrees of travel-oriented Sagittarius, just as the extended ufo episode ended.

Second, Mercury made a station and turned direct on May 5, 1984, the very day on which an Aerojet Satellite high in Earth’s atmosphere detected and captured on nine minutes of video a UFO as it came from deep outer space, entered the Earth’s atmosphere, slowed down considerably, turned around, and then went back to outer space. The whole sequence was also detected by a second deep space platform, significantly reducing any doubt the event actually transpired.[2] All of this occurred on the very day the planet Mercury made a station and then resumed apparent direct motion.

Third, Mercury made a station and turned direct within a few hours of one of the most dramatic and compelling of U.S. sightings in recent times. In the late afternoon of October 18, 2021, in Springfield, Missouri, a baffling spinning cube-shaped UFO was seen and videotaped as it hung high in the still daylight sky, and then turned to move toward the local airport. (Jupiter had also made a station and turned direct that day, bringing two planetary stations to bear on the moment.) As for Mercury, it made a station and turned direct around 10 am Central Time that day, about six hours in advance of this striking encounter.

A Station of Venus

February 25, 1942 saw a confused event called The Battle of Los Angeles, characterized by governmental authority figures as a hair-trigger response to a suspected invasion by Japanese war planes but described by others as a ufo visitation meant to uplift the sights of humanity and deter the subsequent horrific events of World War II. Peace-maker Venus had made a station and turned direct just two days before on February 23, 1942, doing so in Aquarius, the sign of universal community and the fellowship of humanity.

A Station of Mars

Mars made a station and resumed normal forward motion in the zodiac on January 20, 1976, a mere few hours before two ufos, each about 25 yards in diameter, hovered over Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico on January 21, 1976.

Two Jupiter Stations

Jupiter made a station and turned retrograde the day following a ufo encounter near Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, NM. Over the night between August 12 – 13, 1975, a U.S. military officer driving in the desert observed as an unknown flying object some 50 feet in diameter came down from the sky, hovered close to the ground only 300 feet away, appeared to contain beings visible behind windows, and emitted a buzzing hum.[3] The officer’s car went dead as the encounter began. Later, he arrived home much later than had been expected. Jupiter made a station and turned retrograde just hours after the ufo encounter in the New Mexico desert.

As mentioned above under the stations of Mercury, Jupiter also made a station and turned direct on the very day of a dramatic sighting. On October 18, 2021, a ufo in the shape of a spinning cube was sighted in the sky over Springfield, MO, only hours after Jupiter had made a station and turned direct.

Two Stations of Saturn

Long before the Himalayan country of Tibet was overtaken by the Communist Chinese Party, a European spiritual seeker and humanitarian artist named Nicholas Roerich led a cultural expedition through the highlands of Tibet to learn of its arts and cultures. On August 5, 1927, Roerich and his entourage sighted a huge oval object hurtling through the rarefied Tibetan skies, a sighting which the European travelers took to be a classic Tibetan Buddhist omen of some type, but which also may have been a ufo.[4] The planet Saturn made a station at 1 degree of the travel and adventure-oriented sign, Sagittarius, that very day, returning to direct motion in the zodiac.

On October 18, 1973, over Mansfield, OH, witnesses in a helicopter saw a gray cigar-shaped ufo with a dome on top and experienced a strange effect as the ufo seemed to take the helicopter under control, knock out its electronic systems, and cause it to rise uncontrollably. Saturn had made a station the day before, on October 17, 1973, turning retrograde thereafter.

Three Stations of Uranus

Uranus made a station and turned retrograde on March 14, 1983. This was just three days before a dramatic mass sighting of a boomerang shaped craft which occurred on March 17, 1983, over an interstate highway in the Hudson Valley area of New York state.[5]

On March 25, 1984 on the Taconic Parkway in New Jersey, again a mass sighting of a ufo occurred when numerous motorists stopped and parked their cars to watch 300 foot-long boomerang shaped craft with bright white lights as it hovered over the highway. Uranus had made a station on March 17, 1984, a bit more than a week before the mass sighting occurred.

A Uranus station was also associated with the historic Nimitz Event of November 14, 2004, when numerous military pilots and radar technicians participating in training exercises off the coast of Southern California detected multiple unknown vehicles traveling at mind-numbing air speeds and apparently able to do the same under water. Uranus had made a station and returned to direct motion three days prior, on November 11, 2004.

A Neptune Station

On October 5, 1996, in Loncolnshire, England, a ufo sighting incident initiated a flap. Neptune made a station and returned to forward zodiacal motion within hours of the event.

What Does It Mean?

What does it mean that planets make stations shortly before and after ufo encounters? It could mean many things. First to bear in mind is the fact that planetary stations are relatively rare. As mentioned above, the outer planets make stations twice a year, while Mars stations twice every two years, Venus twice every year and half, and Mercury six times every calendar year. Plainly, stations do not occur just every day. And yet many ufo sightings have occurred close in time to such astrological and astronomical events.

It is possible that stations of the planets create vortices of energies, portals, or other energy structures which allow for higher dimensional and otherworldly craft to manifest. At the very least, the close correlation of ufo sightings with planetary stations demonstrates the fact that happenings in our world are connected to happenings in the greater environment of the solar system. The solar system itself and the arrangements of its parts surely must be of interest to those who study our system from afar. Quite possibly these happenings and arrangements in the solar system are visible or somehow discernible to the intelligences behind ufo phenomena.

Additionally, it would appear that the archetypal nature of the individual planets plays into the type of event which occurs.

For example, communication and travel-oriented sightings have occurred coincident with stations of Mercury, the planet associated with communication and travel within astrological lore.

A sighting possibly connected with efforts at world diplomacy may have occurred coincident with a station of Venus, the planet and archetype associated with the capacity for establishing harmonious human relationships in the astrological lore.

A sighting at a war and weaponry-oriented installation occurred coincident with a station of Mars, God of War and Weaponry in ancient Greek myth.

Two grandiose and impressive sightings occurred coincident with stations of giant Jupiter, archetype of grandiosity.

A station of Saturn, planet of self-control, occurred coincident with a sighting in which a ufo appeared to have taken control over a helicopter, while another sighting coincident with a station of Saturn occurred in a land in which meditative self-discipline was once prized above all.

Uranus, planet of anomalies and modern technology, made stations coincident with sightings featuring boomerang and tic-tac styled craft which far transcend the conventional flying saucer design.

And finally, the island nation of England saw the beginning of a ufo flap coincident with station made by Neptune, ancient God of the Oceans.

Portals and Spontaneous Journeys Beyond:

The Jupiter Influence in Three Anomalistic Events

Astrologer Maureen Richmond, Ph.D.

Introduction

Throughout the paranormal community, interest in the subject of portal openings runs high. Portals are thought to be special places on Earth or in space which function as doorways into and out of other dimensions of existence. Speculation about the theoretical existence and nature of portals takes many forms. However, not often is the subject treated in the context of the solar system and the position of the Earth relative to the other celestial bodies in the solar system. Yet, my recent studies correlating the positions of the planets, Sun, Moon, and lunar nodes at the times of anomalistic events have suggested that indeed, the context of the solar system is in fact relevant to the topic of portals.

The fundamental reasoning which suggests that the correlation between paranormal events and celestial positioning is significant rests on the notion of synchronicity. Proposed in the mid-twentieth century by depth psychologist Carl Jung, the theory of synchronicity posits that events which occur at the same moment in time are inherently related. In today’s parlance, the concept of quantum entanglement might express the same idea. Whether one uses the language of the twentieth or of the twenty-first century, the underlying idea is the same. Two things acting at the same moment are interconnected, whether the method of connection is perceptible to the five human senses or not. Yet, the question could be raised, is the relationship one of causation? That question remains to be answered. First, the correlations between paranormal events and celestial positionings deserve attention and exploration.

For example, in three recent anomalistic events, the influence of the planet Jupiter figured significantly. The influence of Jupiter was significant in these events because the giant planet was emphasized at the time of occurrence, either by virtue of placement relative to the horizon as a result of the Earth’s rotation on its own axis, or by virtue of configuration with another celestial body. Of the three anomalistic events discussed here, two are suspected portal openings and the third is a discrete moment of scientific measurement regarding variation in the magnetic field at a site of suspected paranormal activity.

The first occurred on March 5, 2023, near Sedona, AZ, at Bradshaw Ranch, a location famous for its unusual paranormal properties, which are similar to those of the famous SkinWalker Ranch in Utah. The second occurred on December 7, 2023, near Mena, AR, at Board Camp Crystal Mine, also a location famous for its unusual paranormal properties. The third anomalistic event occurred on December 26, 2023, also at Board Camp Crystal Mine in western Arkansas. All three of these events point to the existence of happenings and energy structures not necessarily detected by the conventional five senses.

Furthermore, at the moment of each of these three anomalistic events, the planet Jupiter was emphasized. In astrology, Jupiter is associated with epic spiritual journeys, contact with sources of higher wisdom, and long distance travel. These themes bear a striking similarity to the function of portals allowing converse with distant dimensions or worlds.

The overall implication is that the influence of the planet Jupiter plays a significant role in creating the energies behind paranormal events, including portal openings. The influence of Jupiter is not the only factor of importance in this regard, but it appears to be one of real significance all the same. Just exactly how this influence is measured or identified is the subject of this paper.

The Three Anomalistic Events

The first of the three anomalistic events discussed here took place near Sedona, AZ, at Bradshaw Ranch, the location of paranormal investigations conducted by filmmakers Meyer and Alan Megargle. In early March of 2023, Meyer and Megargle were on site at Bradshaw Ranch to explore and record the nature of the phenomena experienced there. During their investigation, and with Meyer and Megargle nearby, a security camera captured the following image on March 5, 2023, at 8:16 pm.

Meyer and Megargle subsequently identified the central triangular figure as a pyramid-shaped portal. They based their conclusion on the nature of events observed at other times during the investigation, and reasoned that there must (or might) be an invisible energy portal at work. At the time of the photograph, it would seem the invisible became somewhat visible, at least for a time. The question for an astrologer such as myself naturally becomes, “What was the astrological situation at the moment this image was captured?”

Since the video taken by the security camera included a date and timestamp, it is possible to calculate an astrological chart for the precise moment this image was captured. The resulting chart below shows the symbol for the planet Jupiter at the far right. Jupiter at 13 degrees of Aries is just 4 degrees away from exact conjunction to the western horizon, or the Descendant. In astrological terminology, Jupiter is thus angular, a position well-known within the field of astrology to connote maximum effect.

If indeed this darkened shape in the central view field of the security camera did or does function as a doorway into and out of another dimension, and it manifested synchronous with the setting of the planet Jupiter, then the implication is that Jupiter at the setting or descending point in the moment of the event is in some way related to the manifestation of the portal. Simply stated, the idea is that the portal manifested at the time of Jupiter’s setting because the fact of Jupiter’s setting creates the necessary condition. Now, Jupiter sets once every single day of the year, and it is patently obvious that records of dramatic portal openings are not made on security cameras or by watchful human beings every single day of the year. However, that doesn’t mean such portals do not exist or do not open at the times of Jupiter’s setting. It only means the opening of such putative portals may go unnoticed by human beings and their technologies.

The second of the anomalistic events occurred at Board Camp Crystal Mine on December 7, 2023. Again, it was a security camera which captured the record of an event. In this case, the camera captured what appears to have been the opening of a light portal. The event began with what appeared to have been a spontaneous, non-artificial illumination of a wooded area. What followed was a period of more than an hour, during which two individuals experienced a paranormal event closely resembling a ufo abduction, including the apparent loss of time and the sudden return to a location on the mine property which differed from where the two last remembered themselves to have been.

All this occurred when Venus at 4 degrees of Scorpio was approaching a precise opposition to Jupiter at 6 degrees of Taurus, a fact which can be determined from the date of the event. At this time, Venus and Jupiter stood at opposite sides of the Earth, creating an alignment, which if observed from above or below the solar system would have looked like a configuration of three bodies resembling lined up billiard balls or three dots in a row. The two degrees of difference in zodiacal longitude are not great enough to have disturbed the resulting appearance. The Venus-Jupiter opposition would have held in place at + or – 2 degrees of exactitude for 2 – 3 days. The event occurred during that period, with the Venus opposition to Jupiter serving to emphasize the role and power of Jupiter. Jupiter was not angular at the onset of this event, but it was indeed emphasized due to its configuration with Venus.

The third of the anomalistic events occurred on December 26, 2023, also at Board Camp Crystal Mine in western Arkansas. As part of an ongoing experiment conducted by physicist and paranormal investigator Mark Wentz, a meter designed to detect variations in the magnetic field of the earth had been set out and linked to a computer which would record the readings obtained. At the conclusion of the experiment, the readings were studied. A dramatic spike had been recorded, starting at 8:08 pm CST.

What was the astrological situation at that moment? As the astrological chart for that moment shows below, the planet Jupiter at 5 degrees and 36 minutes of Taurus was precisely conjunct the zenith or midheaven at 5 degrees Taurus.

This means that the planet Jupiter had reached its greatest elevation in the southern sky for that day and was directly overhead. In astrological terms, that makes Jupiter angular. Planets are considered angular in the astrological mapping system whenever they are rising and therefore conjunct the ascendant, at the zenith or culminating and therefore conjunct the midheaven, setting or conjunct the descendant, or at the nadir and therefore anti-culminating. Any of these positions brings out the power of the planet so positioned. Again, Jupiter was angular for this event involving the measurement and recording of a radical alteration in the magnetic field, just as it was at the time discussed above during the onset of a paranormal event. According to the recordings obtained, the particular type of spike resulted from a sudden increase in the upward flow of electrical charge. This happened with Jupiter dead above.

Conclusions

The positioning of Jupiter in these three moments of apparent anomalistic activity raises many questions, but it also points to tentative answers. Although much more study is required for the formation of a theory, these three examples show that when Jupiter is angular, anomalistic occurrences have occurred. The importance assigned to these three correlations depends upon how seriously the potentially paranormal content of these three events is taken. If the Bradshaw Pyramid, the onset of a Board Camp Crystal Mine paranormal event including features similar to ufo abduction, and a magnetic field spike at a suspected paranormal site are all taken as veridical indications of anomalistic happenings, then the placements of the celestial bodies at these times might assume real importance, too. One thing for sure can be said: at all three of these events, Jupiter was suspiciously prominent by astrological measure.

Interestingly, the influence of Jupiter also figured significantly in 22 ufo sightings recorded by diverse reporting organizations and historians of the ufo phenomenon. Fortunately, these reporting organizations and historians included time, date, and place in each event description, allowing for the calculation of the full astrological charts. For each of the 22 ufo events, Jupiter influence was strong by virtue of positioning due to the rotation of the Earth.

In 5 ufo sightings, Jupiter was rising in the east, or conjunct the ascendant; in 2 ufo sightings, Jupiter was culminating at the zenith or conjunct the midheaven; in 8 ufo sightings, Jupiter was setting or conjunct the descendant; in 7 ufo sightings, Jupiter was at the nadir or anti-culminating. Thus, for all 22 of these ufo sighting events, Jupiter was angular. This fact lends strength to the notion that when the influence of Jupiter is emphasized by angular position, portals in consciousness allowing for paranormal manifestations such as ufo sightings and encounters are likely to open.

The angularity of Jupiter is a regular occurrence and can be predicted by both astrological and astronomical means. As the results above suggest, Jupiter setting or anti-culminating apparently present the most likely times for the opening of portals. This knowledge could be of critical importance in future paranormal investigations.
