The #Astrology of Eris: Eris in the Houses
Posted on March 19, 2015 by Beth Turnage
Eris Glyph(Astrology Explored) Eris, the black winged goddess of Strife is a portion of the Sumerian goddess Innana, :

Inanna could be wily and cunning. She was a powerful warrior, who drove a war chariot, drawn by lions

Innanna ruled as a goddess during the dawn of human civlization and not only represented strength in battle, but also:

She endowed the people of Sumer with gifts that inspired and insured their growth as a people and a culture

.

When the patriarchal tribes of Northern Greece over ran the Southern matriarchal tribes all the goddesses, including Eris, suffered a reduction in power and influence as the new patriarchal religious forms supplanted matriarchal forms. Those goddess images that survived with good press, Venus, for instance, morphed from stronger images of War Goddesses, to more docile forms. Eris, as “queen of battle” didn’t translate well into the new dichotomy and therefore became an “outsider” in the patriarchal Greek pantheon.

Eris defines the part of ourselves whose essential nature is as odds with our current cultural norms. This part of us stands against “what everyone does”. With Eris now recognized in our solar system and now part of our developmental path as a species, this is the time for us to recognize that true inner voice that does not bend to the will of the many. We may kick up some discord, but it is for our own good.

Eris in the Houses

When Eris resides in your first house, your mission is to trust yourself. You will have opinions that differ from societies’, you will do things different from other people. You will experience pain and loss here, because though you may desire to integrate fully into society, you can not. This in not a Uranian process where you discover your individuality. The Eris process dictates that your innate sense of values pits yourself against society. You have no other choice.

With Eris in your second house of resources, it is your task to sound the alarm regarding the incorrect use of resources. You have a vastly different way handling money and wealth which involves the sharing of resources. People think you are foolish with your use of money. You are not. You realize the value of sharing cooperatively, though there is a danger of using your resources to dominate your social sphere.

In the third house of communications, Eris gives you a strong voice that sounds discordant against the sounds of the collective. You have the intellect to discern what is off balance and not in the interests of the society. You must beware of forcing your opinions on others, but it your job to tell society at large your perceptions.

When Eris resides in your fourth house of the home you have the power to recognize how past conditions have contributed to current problems. You experience through your childhood how unequal power distribution causes problems in the home. If you are wise, you will work on these dynamics in your own life, so the same bitter fruit is not born. If you do not, you will repeat the experiences of your parents.

Eris in the fifth house of romance and creativity gives you the power to create divergent forms that highlights societal problems caused by unequal power distribution. Your images, your writing, your music can inspire others with the power of your message. Likewise, if you misspend your gift, your art will devolve into pointless blame games. You must work to overcome that tendency in your life.

When Eris sits in your sixth house of health and servants, you challenges your authority with others and other people’s authority to make health care decisions for you. This latter situation can manifest as a health care crisis that is not managed correctly by the care provider calling for clarity of thinking and intervention on your part. You will have to be your own best health care advisor.

In your seventh house of partnerships Eris will create situations of unequal distribution of power that will stress your relationship. You will have to work at finding a partner that will share your goal of sharing the work and well as the joys of partnership, or suffer the consequences for failing to doing so. If you attempt to follow traditional male/female roles, your relationship will ultimately lose its vitality and strength of purpose.

Eris in your eighth house of death [transformation] creates situations where you experience people trying to take away your resources. Inheritances, insurance payments and loans can be contentious and difficult experiences, especially if you are elected to be the consevator/distributor of those funds. You may have to share a partnership role in the disbursement of funds, but do not have final say in where they are to go. In the area of sexual development you may have sexual experiences that are incomplete or unsatisfying due to one partner or the other demanding a control of the sexual experience.

With Eris in the ninth house of law and education, you may experience education and travel opportunities that are divergent from the norm. You may find the traditional educational process difficult to complete because of your urges to pursue your own line of study. Travel takes you to places where you glimpse the economic inequities of life. Even if you go to a sunny Carribean beach for vacation you might find yourself getting lost in the slums.

When Eris resides in the tenth house of authority and power, you are here to understand your role in taking care of the those with less power than you. Should you not have a natural understanding of this role, Eris will make sure you experience the consequences of the bigger fish eating the smaller fish. You will experience why some people insist on “survival of the fittest” and you will not necessarily be the one considered “fit”. When you grow in wisdom in this role, you wlll be a fine steward of the needs of the people.

Eris in the eleventh house of organizations and friends, you either do or will come to understand the necessity of a cooperative role within the group. You may be confronted with situations that place you outside the group for a time to experience the feeling of “odd man out.” In a cooperative society there is no room for pushing people to an outsider’s position. When you come to understand this yourself, you can teach the rest of your brothers and sisiters.

In the twelfth house of connection with the your higher sources, Eris gives you a voice to speak about how this dimension’s experience does not necessarily mirror all of reality. You have a powerful prophetic voice that holds much wisdom and truth. You can channel the wisdom of higher realms and have the ability to access the Akashic records without the guidance of the guardians from the other side. However, because your voice is at dissonance with the drumbeat of your time, often you are not listened to, like Cassandra of Trojan War fame.

the Cardinal Axis is the first of the “personal points” of the Uranian system. It is the outer personal point that represents our connection to the world in general. The second “outer” personal point is the Ascendant. This point describes how a person relates in their immediate surroundings and it rules the “place.” The third outer personal point is the Moon’s Node. Through this point, we may examine a person’s intimate connections, those that are of a karmic variety.

It's quite amazing to see a few things which are often questioned in astrology, i.e. asteroids, Lilith & inconjunct aspects:

transit Sun is exactly on his natal Sado-Nessus conjunction

transit Venus exactly opposite his Lilith & on his Jupiter

his Lilith is opposite his Pluto & Jupiter

For example, the asteroid Lilith tends to show how an individual expresses activism. I feel that Black Moon Lilith is a much better indicator of the wild feminine as well as the themes of shame, repression, primal instincts, and rejection. Black Moon Lilith shows a well-rounded, holistic view of Lilith-like qualities in your life.

For the purposes of this blog post, I’ll refer to Black Moon Lilith strictly as Lilith from here on. If you’re interested in asteroid Lilith or Dark Moon Lilith then stay tuned – I will write another post about these astrology points in the future!

Summary for the Year
From March 2025 to February 2026, Prince Harry’s Jupiter Dasha kicks off with a Jupiter-Jupiter Antardasha, marking a pivotal shift.

After Rahu’s 18-year rollercoaster (military service, marriage, royal exit), Jupiter brings stability, growth, and a higher purpose. Key areas—identity, family, marriage, creativity, and global impact—flourish, though Saturn and Ketu add subtle tests. Harry may evolve from a controversial figure to a respected humanitarian, balancing personal peace with public duty. This year sets the tone for a 16-year arc of wisdom and legacy-building.

For a more precise report, exact house cusps and divisional charts (e.g., D-9 Navamsa) would refine predictions. If you have additional chart details or a specific focus (e.g., career, marriage), let me know—I’ll tailor it further!

WINTER SOLSTICE
A Turning Point 🕊️ dec 22-5

The next two days the Sun will pass by the "bending of the nodes of fate" (being 90° to ☋☊). Coincidentally, we also arrive at a solstice point these days.

According to the ancient astrologer Vettius Valens, it is not advised to make important decisions when planets are at the nodes of fate or in hard aspect to them.

And you do not have to. Change comes naturally, subtly, and things will slowly start to develop in another direction. It is the natural dynamic of the celestial sphere, which makes the wheel of life turn, presenting us with the new and prompting us to let go of the previous.

How we interpret stationary planets may depend on the type of chart we are examining. For example, in a horary chart, the stationary planet is thought to impede. Its lack of apparent motion is said to prevent further developments. This makes logical sense, because in horary work we are mostly concerned with that exact moment. As a rule, we don’t examine transits or progressions to the horary chart, so if a key planet is stationary, then the matter concerned is most likely at a standstill, at least for the foreseeable future.

Speedy motion symbolises strong impulse, so when a significator is direct in motion and moving swiftly, we judge whatever it signifies as moving directly towards its objectives and having a strong impetus to make something happen. This is a signature of someone with a strong will and a clear sense of purpose (however misguided that purpose may be). By contrast, a significator that moves slowly is regarded as hindered or impeded, suggesting hesitancy or protracted labouring over something difficult to accomplish.

WEEK STARTING NOV 28th
The week opens with a kite backboned on the North and South Node in Aries/Libra, and cross-barred by a lovely Sagittarius sun trine Mars in Leo. A south node tip points to how success means letting go of something in the Libra part of our whole sign house sky. The "shaman" waning gibbous moon hangs out at the kite's tip Monday and Tuesday, adding an emotional element to this release = success story. I cover this in detail in my Monday All Signs video HERE.

where personality is supported, or is both strengthened

or where the native "spreads himself" among his fel

by which an individual most easily broadens his experience.

The spreading of personality, or this definite use of
resources, is illustrated by the four example charts. The

THE FIRST HousE
In a Nativity. The cusp of the Ascendant, the first and most
important of the four Angles of any Figure, marks the Eastern end
of the Line of Particular Being; the Irrational Axis, or culminating
point of the eastern hemisphere-a Line of Awareness of Self and of
Others. Hence, it becomes the Point of Dualism of Consciousness,
and the Angle of Fulfillment.
Representing Selfhood, its primary significance is Action: Destiny
in the making. It defines and particularizes the na~ive~ his perso~al
appearance, disposition and manner, moral and subjective viewpOI~t
and motivating impulses-Personality as distinguished from Indi
viduality; and is an index to his birth, environment in early child
hood, outlook upon life, and will to manifest; personal power over
himself and others· carriage mein, walk, and manner of approach;

complexion, skin, head, face, brain, and the shape and size of its
body; opinion of himself and of others~ thm ~pm10n of him, an~ the
impression he makes upon them; habits, .demes and. personal interests;
capacity for self-development; v1tahty,. health. consequence
of personal habits, the inherent strength~ of his physical constitution;
mental and emotional qualities and attitudes; worldly outlook, and
the quality, bent and direction of his craving~ and the1r gratification:
attitude toward his possessions, and other things that affect ~he ego,
circumstances and situations that result from h1s acts; consc10usness
of the future.
The First House has to do with a man's grandmother, or a
woman's grandfather. (v. Fourth House.) The Ruler .of the Rising
Sign indicates the influences that were at work previous to birth.

When the Lord of the First also rules the sign on the cusp of the
Twelfth, it becomes an index to his Destiny or Fate.
As the Ascendant provides a key to the native's mentality and the
quality of his will power, the Sixth House, its Ruler and occupants,
portrays what use he makes of them.

In a Mundane Figure. The body politic. The country and m
inhabitants as a whole: the people, the masses; their prosperity and
health, or the reverse; their national traits and habits; the country's
interior affairs; the public consciousness and collective expression;
the psychology of the masses, their reactions and conditions.
In a Political Campaign: the majority. The Constitution (USA etc).

In a Contest: the public favorite; the holder of the title; the one
who is challenged; the decision or decisions of the referee.

In a Lawsuit: the defendant; also the decision or sentence of the
Court.

In an Organization: its personnel-including the stockholders
and all who work for the company in any capacity; the company's
morale and its attitude toward its competitors.

THE SECOND HOUSE
In a Nativity. Repository of the native's strongest desires, it deter
mines the quality of the life-substance used by the Ego-that which
the Life is dedicated to redeem; the heredity and social background
with which the native is equipped for the pursuit of his destiny, and
the bodily chemistry of metabolism; secret thoughts and desires;
financial standing, money, moveable property and possessions, the
gain or loss and the income derived therefrom; earning and spend
ing capacities, personal debts; the manner in which he meets his
obligations.

In a Mundane Figure. The nation's wealth; taxation revenue,
stocks, bonds, shares, and all places and activities connected in any
way with money, such as banks, stock exchanges, trade and commerce; the national exports; taxing power, as distinct from the
manner in which the taxes affect the people; the purchasing power
of the nation, its national expenditures and receipts, currency and
its circulation and liquid assets; hence the wealth and prosperity of
the people as measured by their collective earning and buying power;
investors and their investments, and those who buy stocks and bonds.
for investment rather than for speculation.
In a National Figure: the Treasury.
In an Organization: its liquid assets and voluntary expenditures;
the ability of that Company to earn profits; its disposition toward
investments.

THE THIRD HousE
In a Nativity. The synthetizing powers of the mind and its ability
to form sense impressions and mold destiny within one's social
environment; dexterity, cleverness, duality, restlessness; the rational
mind and its adaptability to education; short journeys; brothers,
sisters and near blood relationships, and their attitude toward the
native; acquaintances and neighbors, their character and reputation;
writings and communications, news and rumors; changes and re
movals; daily comings and goings; accidents; memory, perception,
speech; personal advertising and publicity.
In a Mundane Figure. Inland transit, traffic and communications
by land, air or water; the nature of the public demands upon and the
degree of public patronage accorded to the nation's transportation
and communication facilities; the postal, telegraph and telephone
systems, radio, cinema, newspapers, magazines and ephemeral pub
lications; the people's inclination to travel, move about, make changes
and communicate with one another within the nation; the nation's
intellectual activities and its relations with neighboring nations; the
reading public, and its tendency to patronize the newspapers and
other periodicals; indications relative to rumors, public opinion, the
mental and psychological attitude of the masses; emigration as dis
tinct from immigration; and the effects of storms, temperature
changes and atmospheriC conditions within the country.
In a Court of Law: the Court reporter.
In an Organization: first-hand contacts of the Organization with
the general public, the traffic, transit, transportation and communica
tion departments; inter-office communications; specific inf~rmauon
disseminated within the organization, and departments havmg to do
with the dissemination of such information; public statements of a
relatively private nature.

THE FouRTH HousE
In a Nativity. Its cusp, the Northern end of the meridian that
passes through the birthplace, is the degree of Integration. Although
it is the weakest of the four Angles, it nevertheless exercises a deci
sive influence throughout the entire Figure. It is the drain through
which everything that is to be sloughed off, merges and passes away.
Through it the Ego becomes concrete, as the operational base of the
physical entity, the seat of the desire-nature-the emotions and the
passions. It is an index to the home and all domestic affairs; the
imaginative faculty; receptivity of mood; treasured recollections. It
counsels him whether to remain in or to leave his birthplace, and
the advantages consequent thereon. Thus it defines the nature of
one's residence, while the Ascendant indicates in what direction it
should lie. It has been called the "grave" because it is so often con
cerned with hidden things: private affairs, old age, the ultimate end
and aim of terrestrial existence.
Considered in connection with the Ascendant, it affords an insight
into the nature of the native's early life, his childhood upbringing,
the character of his home environment; his domestic concerns
throughout life, and their conspicuousness or obscurity; the nature
of the termination of every earthly concern: the last illness and
demise, the ultimate disposition of the body, the nature of the
burial, and the general location of the grave.
It summarizes matters relating to lands, houses, estates, cities,
mines, concealed treasures, intimate concerns, curious personal
secrets, things accumulated and stored up, leases, rentals, real estate
transactions, and similar matters.
In the Figure of a woman it generally characterizes the first child,
and a heavily tenanted Fourth House is often an indication that he
will pursue a scientific career.
The Fourth House produces changes of environment within the
disposition of the native, wherein he can alter or upset his home
conditions and those of such as are intimately related to him. Only
through this House can he build his reputation and lay the founda
tion of a successful career, to find expression later through the Tenth
House. While one cannot directly control his fortunes insofar as
they d~pend upon the good will of others, by laying a proper Fourth
211
House, Fourth
House foundation in obscure beginnings, he can build toward a
secure end.
To it is commonly assigned the native's father, his life, disposition
and fortunes; and from it are derived inferences relative to cousins
on the mother's side. Which parent to assign to the Tenth, its
Ruler, and the planets therein, is, however, a moot question: and
divergent opinions variously assign (r) the mother to the Tenth in
a day-birth, the Fourth in a night-birth-the father represented by
the opposite ends of the meridian; (2) to the Tenth the parent of
the same sex as the native, and to the Fourth the parent of the
opposite sex; (3) to the Tenth the father in a female, and the
mother in a male Nativity; (4) on the basis that Cancer represents
the womb the Hindus assign to the Fourth the mother, and to the
Tenth the father since Capricorn indicates conservatism, repression
and firmness; while yet other authorities contend (5) that the deter
mination of the House selected as the parent's significator is depend
ent upon which parent has most authority over the native. Thus
there is need for extended documentation on the subject.
In a Mundane Figure. Circumstances and events affecting real
estate values, mines and their products, buildings, crops, produce and
all agricultural interests, including those of. the own~r~ of and ':?rk
ers on the land; miners, builders, the housmg and hvmg cond1t10.ns
of the people, and their patriotic inclinations; the land. as a lo~al~ty
wherein people are subject to natural forces-terrestnal ~s distm
guished from atmospheric, hence property damages resultmg from
floods, earthquakes, and mining disasters; the interests of the people
as distinguished from those of the government an~ o~ the governing
class; and democratic as against autocratic tendencies m government,
and between governments.

In a National Figure: the Opposition Party, a~d those individuals
who co-operate with or oppose the Chief Execu~1ve; the characteristics
of any governmental opposition, and the time such opposition
may be expected to culminate.
In Ingress, Lunation and Full Moon Figures a planet close to the
cusp of this House will affect the weather accordimg to 1ts ~atu~e
and aspects; and if it be a malefic and powerfully aspected, 1t w1ll
profoundly affect the government.
In a Court of Law: the Jury.

In a Contest: the arena of action; the judges as distinguished from
the referee; the end of the contest.
In an Organization: its real estate investments and holdings; its
base of operations or field of activity; the location and condition of
factory or office buildings it owns or occupies.

THE FIFTH HousE
In a Nativity. The conception of offspring; hence the exterioriza
tion of Self through all manner of creative and procreative urges and
activities; recreational, and other pleasurable impulses of mind and
heart; mental offspring, such as creative, artistic or literary output;
gambling and financial speculations; the operations of the laws of
chance-in so far as its effects are under the native's control. As the
abode of the heart, it has to do with all impulses arising therefrom,
hence all emotional and romantic tendencies. Those who have a
strong Fifth House, containing one or more planets giving or receiv
ing strong vibrations, have overpowering impulses with which to
contend throughout life, which find emotional expression through
dramatic attitudes, pride, the affections, and which contribute to
popularity, notoriety or fame, according as the aspects thereto are
favorable or adverse. It has been postulated that in a male Nativity
this House prefigures the first child. Planets in the Fifth and
Eleventh Houses are an index to emotional desires, not infrequently
expressed in the more sublimated form of platonic friendships and
affiliations.
In a Mundane Figure. Children, their attitudes and conditions;
circumstances affecting minors; the public school system and children
in attendance at primary schools; amusements and amusement
places, theatres, concerts, sporting events; public speculations and
investments; the inclination of the people to play or express emotion;
public happiness and sorrow; circumstances attending those seeking
pleasure and amusement; high society and the upper classes; ambas
sadors, senators and government representatives.; formal social fun~
tions and all ceremonies of a more or less offictal character. Pubhc
happiness or sorrow; circumstances and dangers affecting those .on
pleasure bent; and similar activities not engaged in for the specific
purpose of making money.

House, Sixth
Since it is the realm of the country's creative and procreative
activities, it indicates . probable changes in the birth rate during the
period immediately following that for which the Figure is cast.
In a National Figure: the upper legislative house-in contrast to
the Eleventh House which rules the lower house; although the
Eleventh represents the legislative branches as a unit, as distinct from
the administrative branch of the government.
In an Organization: the executive personnel, its officers and Board
of Directors as distinguished from the President or Chairman of the
Board; the governing body in a collective sense; any attitude or
action of the stockholders or Board of Directors in opposition to the
President.

THE SIXTH HousE
In a Nativity. Food, clothing, comforts and domestic pets; mental
or physical conflicts resulting from the externalization of the Ego.
As such it depicts any enmity between the Ego and the physical
body, out of which mental, nervous or organic disease may develop.
It is an obscure arc, since the nature of service rendered or received is
more or less personal, unobtrusive and routine. It has been termed
the House of Service in that it portrays one's capacity to serve, as
also the character and qualities of those who serve him-his em
ployees and dependents, and his relations with them. As the Sixth
House is the Third from the Fourth, it pertains to uncles and aunts
on the father's side (Fourth House).
Sixth House action is generally under the Native's control; while
Twelfth House derivatives by way of inhibitions, repressions and
frustrations, spring from causes over which the Native has no control.
In a Mundane Figure. The public health; the armed forces, civil
service workers and police, as the servants of the country; and in
general, the laboring class and the workers in all trades; and all
involuntary services rendered by the people.
In a National Figure: the Labor Party.
In a Court of Law: the deliberations of the jury, and the Court
records as the field of activity of the Court reporter.
In an Organization: the workers or employees; their attitude,
efficiency and general condition; the health condition of the personnel

as affecting the organization. Strikes and labor troubles which have
their inception here, will take form in the Twelfth House.
THE SEVENTH HousE
In a Nativity. The Seventh cusp, the Angle of Relationship, at
the western end of the line of Particular Being, depicts the sub
jective side of the Nature, the Individuality, as opposed to the Person
ality that is revealed objectively in the First House; the correlation
of exterior agencies and forces. Of the four Angles, it ranks third
in importance. Here human relations are on a give-and-take basis,
by the interchange of ideas. It has to do with the outcome of all
contentions, oppositions, strife, enmities, pleas, and fines. Since it
defines the native's reaction to law, it becomes the House of the
House, Eighth
tributes to or interferes with public harmony, or tends to build or
disintegrate social identities; public support of the nation's foreign
policy, friendly or hostile, political or commercial, and the reactions
of foreign nations thereto. It is therefore the domain of international
disputes, of war and peace; public relations, public gatherings, and
meetings between and dealings with strangers. It also indicates the
status of women in the nation, particularly the public attitude toward
marriage and divorce, and the fluctuations of the marriage and
divorce rate as determined by the planet posited there, and its rela
Public, showing the relation of the native to others; particularly his
open adversaries; lawsuits and contracts; one's personal agents and
representatives; men's grandfathers or women's grandmothers;
nephews and nieces; and every manner of cooperative arrangement
or partnership, legal or otherwise-including marriage and the effects
thereof upon the native. In an astrological sense marriage is any
state of cohabitation prompted by love and attended by a condition
of sympathetic understanding, whether or not recognized by civil or
ecclesiastical law. Furthermore, when any state of cohabitation,
however legalized it may be, ceases to produce a blending of two
horoscopes through a condition of mutual regard and understand
ing harmoniousness, marriage ceases to exist and becomes merely a
legalized form of prostitution; as evidenced by laws governing "com
mon law" marriage, divorce, and the support of offspring after
divorce. The more profoundly the constructive influence of cohabita
tion affects the lives of the participants, the more it can properly be
termed a marriage.
In a Mundane Figure. The public as an organized social unit, the
social consciousness of the people, the relative status of the nation
among the nations of the world, and conditions, circumstances and
events affecting its social evolution; those who cooperate with or
oppose the people in a national sense, such as anti-social organiza
tions or activities, crime, organized crime and criminals, particularly
those who assume the status of a public enemy; anything that con
tion to the Fifth House.
In a Contest: the challenger; the decision of the judges.
In a Court of Law: the plaintiff and the lawyers; the point of
arbitration where evidence and the rights of opposing factions are
weighed; also the verdict of the jury.
.
.
In an Organization: its relation to other orgamzatwns through
contracts, trade agreements, mergers, cartels, or reciprocal arrange·
ments· its lawsuits and legal affairs. Here originate all forces that
oppos~ the growth and free action of t~e or~a?~zation as an indi
vidual entity, such as competitors and theu acuvtues.
THE EIGHTH HousE
In a Nativity. Release from personal limitations through human
interchange; the Realm of Birth and Rebirth; of evolut~on through
the suffering incident to all human experience; regenerauon through
enlargement of viewpoint, both spiritual and me~ tal; and the s~b
jugation of the personal Self-a diffi~ult process st.nce so few reahze
the horror of its impact upon the mmd and conscwusness .. It has. ~o
do with effects of an involuntary nature, such as the healmg cnsts
preceding either recovery or dissolution in de.ath; the manner ?f
death; fateful losses which lead to regeneratwn thr~ugh c.e~tam
enforced changes; the transmutation of emotional stress mto spmt~al
power; wills, legacies, trust funds, insurance; the estate of th~ manta!
or business partner; money belonging to other people~ especially the
deceased, in so far as it applies to the native; hence in general
financial relationship of the world to him, and his responsibilities ~~
connection therewith. However, its consideration of these things is
largely as liabilities rather than as assets.

House, Eighth
216
217
House, Ninth
It has been called the Occult House, the house of hidden things,
because in most Eighth House operations the Law of Cause and
Effect is difficult to identify, and there is the common human tempta
tion to blame everything upon an inscrutable Providence. It is also
known as the House of Death, because it represents the refiner's fire
wherein through suffering the selfish desires of the Ego are burned
away, setting free the pure gold of spiritually-enlightened Selfless
ness. That death so often comes instead, is a vivid indication of the
tenacity with which we mortals cling to our foibles, utterly deaf to
the accumulated exhortations of the philosophers throughout the
centuries. In the wake of an Eighth House storm there is always a
rainbow-if we but lift our eyes to perceive it. The Creative Ruler
I
I'
so devised this planetary system as to administer an automatic and
recurrent spur to spiritual growth and emotional self-control. Suc
cessive jabs become increasingly severe, and finally to those who
refuse to listen and heed, a premature death is inevitable; while to
the others, the spiritually adult, every Eighth House operation is a
celestial messenger in disguise, and a challenge to penetrate this dis
guise and become the recipient of the blessing he bears.
As the Second from the Seventh, it represents accumulated non
material riches-that which neither moth nor rust doth corrupt~
not the result of the labor of your hand and brain, but of the manner
in which you play the game with those to whom you are closely
allied.
In a Mundane Figure. The public income; the income from
exports; earning power of the nation, chiefly from the standpoint of
the man who pays; frozen assets in properties, stocks and bonds as
distinct from currency; the monetary standard, the National debt,
and interest rates; public sales; financial organizations, such as trust
and insurance companies. The birth and mortality rate in different
class groups, as determined by the planet involved, and its relation to
the Fifth House; medical discovery, insofar as it tends to promote
longevity.
In a National Figure: The national treasurer as a government
official, distinct from the treasury itself; financial relations with and
the financial condition and obligations of other countries with respect
to the nation for the capital of which the Figure is cast.
In an Organization: Losses and gains through or on account of
death, or in connection with the estates of deceased persons; financial
conditions involved in partnerships, mergers or lawsuits; financial
relations with competitors, and their financial condition; rc::venue
from investments, or through liquidation of frozen assets; loans
and income from sources not under immediate control of the Organ
ization; the company treasurer, as distinguished from the Treasury.
THE NINTH HousE
In a Nativity. The realm of the abstract mind, of intuition and
inspiration, of dreams and visions, hence an index to one's reactions
to philosophy, success and religion; and to his sense of responsibility
toward relatives, by blood or in law. From this arc inferences are
drawn concerning grandchildren, especially those of his brother and
his sister-in-law; the probability of distant travel, timing, nature and
results; the fate and nature of imports and exports; the ultimate
result of long-range advertising; world wide contacts and mental
adjustment to racial ideas, ideals and collective needs. With an
author, his works from the standpoint of publication.
In a Mundane Figure. Long-distance passenger and freight trans
portation and communications, by or over sea, air and land; religio?
and the clergy; judges and courts of law; the educ~ted cl~ss:s: u~l
versities and institutions of higher learning, and thetr admmistrauve
and teaching personnel; philosophic and scientific societies and insti
tutions and their publications; all facilities designed to meet .the
public demand in education, religion, transp~rtati?n and ~o~mu.mca
tions; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; immigratiOn as distm~mshed
from emigration; weather condition~ along .t~e co_ast, partKular~y
incoming storms in process of formatwn as d~stmgmshed .from thetr
effects. and the origins of all disturbances, either of an mtellectual
or at~ospheric nature. Observe a distinction drawn b~tween the
public's attitude toward the press, as indicated by the Third House,
and the attitude of the press toward the public as indicated by the

Ninth House.
In a National Figure: The Secretary of State as a government
official, as distinguished from the State Department the educated
classes-those who control or govern the reading, writing or travel
In an .or?anization: the adv~rtising department; long distance
comm~mcat~ons? r~ults of mall-order campaigns; relations with
educ~t:onal 10Stttu~wns a?d publications; professional consultants,
pubhctty and pubhc relauons; officials, as distinguished from their
departments.
·
THE TENTH HousE
In a Nativity. From this arc one traces the native's business or
profess~onal life and affairs, his honor, preferment, fame, credit,
reputatiOn, career, and po.sition in society; hence his standing before
the wor~d. As the operatiOnal base for social intercourse, it offers a
summatwn of the native's human relationships. From this arc infer
ences may be drawn concerning his relations with those who are
mor~ or less .in authority over him-his employers and clients; his
cous10s on hts father's side, and ordinarily his mother (v. Fourth
House) in that here racial consciousness, and what may be termed
~he. "national soul," becomes an entity. Of the four angles it is second
m t~portance, the so~thern end of the meridian running through
the btrthplace: the Mtdheaven, the Rational Axis, the Line of Uni

It should be observed that the six Houses below the horizon are
departments of demand or of inclination to act; while the six
above the horizon afford the facilities for action; the lower six, per
sonal, the upper six, social; the lower six, unorganized, the upper six,
organized. Yet each separate House acts in a reciprocal or compli
mentary manner to its opposing House, as is shown in the following
comparisons or polarizations:
First and Seventh. Whereas the First House is productive of
effects caused by the native's ego, the Seventh is productive of effects
and situations produced by the ego of the marriage partner or any
cooperating personality or event. The commonly observed psycho
logical phenomenon wherein one desires or attempts to reproduce
his ego in another, is the direct result of this reciprocal action.
Second and Eighth. Whereas the Second House is productive of
effects upon the native's individual earning capacity as a direct result
of his own acts or inertia, Eighth House effects, as concerning his
material position, take cognizance of the fact that his ultimate return
depends in large measure upon the extent to which othe~s trade or
cooperate with him, or are friendly disposed toward him. Thus,
although his earning capacity may be exercised through the Second
House by means of work and related activities under his own control
which leave him free to choose whether he will work or not and to
what extent, the ultimate net amount of his income and the extent
of his fortunes do not rest wholly within his own control but are
distinctly due to outside forces. In the sense in which the Second
House registers assets, the Eighth House is more directly concerned
with liabilities.
Houses

Third and Ninth. The Third House is productive of effects which
rest on changes under the direct control of the native and which
result from his own acts. These may be various, such as changes of
location (travel), or changes of domicile (removal). In contrast,
Ninth House operations are not under his control, but involve the
wider changes wrought by an evolution that is largely the result of
outside forces. Similar facilities are indicated by both Houses, but
in the Third their application is confined to the dissemination of
information, while in the Ninth they are utilized to educate and
mold public opinion.
Fourth and Tenth. The Fourth House produces effects involving

the foundations of his professional career. In contrast, forces opera
tive through his Tenth House to affect his fortunes in his profession
or career, he cannot directly control; since his ultimate fate is largely
dependent upon the attitude of others toward him.
Fifth and Eleventh. The Fifth House involves the ability of the
native to take advantage of the Laws of Chance at such times as they
become operative in his favor. Its effects are under his control in that
he alone decides the nature of the investments, whether or not he
will make them, and when. Romance and emotional matters in
general partake of the essence of Chance, for the native's acts produce
emotional disturbances or yield emotional satisfactions according as
the Laws of Chance favor him. This strongly contrasts with the
effects resulting from the Eleventh House influences, for these deter
mine whether his hopes, wishes and desires are to be gratified or
denied. That for which he wishes and the treasure or resources
upon which he can draw wherewith to obtain them, is shown by
the Fifth House; but whether his wish will or will not be granted
through the influence or intervention of other persons, is in the
domain of the Eleventh House.
Sixth and Twelfth. Sixth House affairs, comprising the native's
occuptional activities, his service and devotion to others, are under
the native's control. His bodily health is largely dependent upon his
own acts. But Twelfth House matters are beyond his control, in

Analysis of the 1st House and the Constitution
1st House Overview: The 1st house governs the "body" of the nation—its people, collective identity, and outward expression. It is associated with the general state of the country, public consciousness, and national traits. Planets in the 1st house or the sign on its cusp can indicate how the nation presents itself and its overall condition.

The Constitution in Mundane Astrology: A nation’s Constitution is typically considered a foundational legal document that defines its governance structure and principles. In mundane astrology, matters related to laws, governance, and legal frameworks are more commonly associated with the 9th house (higher law, judiciary, and legal systems) or the 10th house (government, authority, and the ruling administration). The 9th house often governs significant legal documents, judicial matters, and the philosophical or moral underpinnings of a nation, which could include the Constitution. The 10th house, meanwhile, relates to the executive power and the government’s authority, which may enforce or embody the Constitution.

Possible 1st House Connection: While the 1st house does not directly rule the Constitution, it could indirectly relate to it as part of the nation’s identity or "birth" chart. For example, in the case of the United States, the chart often used for the nation (July 4, 1776) marks the Declaration of Independence, but the Constitution’s ratification (September 17, 1787) is sometimes considered a secondary chart. The 1st house in such a chart could reflect the nation’s identity as shaped by its constitutional framework, but this is more about the nation’s character than the document itself.

Houses More Directly Related to a Constitution
9th House: This house is strongly associated with higher law, legal systems, courts, and significant legal documents. The Constitution, as a foundational legal framework, is more likely to fall under the 9th house’s domain, especially in charts cast for the signing or ratification of such documents.

10th House: The 10th house represents the government, its authority, and the nation’s leadership. Since the Constitution often defines the structure of governance, this house may also be relevant, particularly in relation to how the government operates under constitutional principles.

4th House: In some interpretations, the 4th house represents the "roots" or foundation of a nation, which could include its constitutional origins or the land and traditions tied to its founding. However, this is less common than the 9th or 10th house associations.

Historical Context and Chart Considerations
In mundane astrology, a nation’s chart is often based on a significant founding event, such as the signing of a declaration, constitution, or inauguration. For example:
The U.S. chart for July 4, 1776 (Declaration of Independence) is widely used, with the 1st house reflecting the nation’s identity at its "birth." The Constitution’s ratification in 1787 is sometimes analyzed as a separate chart, where the 1st house would represent the nation’s identity at that moment of legal unification.

In such charts, the 1st house might indirectly reflect the Constitution’s influence on national identity, but the document itself would likely be analyzed through the 9th house (legal framework) or 10th house (governance structure).

Conclusion
The 1st house in mundane astrology does not directly rule a nation’s Constitution. Instead, it represents the nation as a whole, its people, and its collective identity. The Constitution is more closely associated with the 9th house (higher law and legal systems) or the 10th house (government and authority), depending on the context of the chart. However, in a chart cast for the signing or ratification of a Constitution, the 1st house could reflect the nation’s identity as shaped by that event, though this is a secondary consideration. For precise analysis, astrologers would examine the chart of the Constitution’s creation or ratification, focusing on the 9th and 10th houses for legal and governmental significations.

which house for house of senate or house of commons

In mundane astrology, the House of Senate or House of Commons (or equivalent legislative bodies, such as a parliament or congress) is typically associated with the 11th house. Here’s a concise explanation:
11th House and Legislative Bodies
Primary Association: The 11th house governs the legislature, parliamentary bodies, or congress, including entities like the House of Senate or House of Commons. It represents the collective decision-making bodies that shape national policy and represent the will of the people through elected or appointed officials.

Reasoning: The 11th house is linked to groups, associations, and collective aspirations, as well as the nation’s hopes, goals, and alliances. In a national chart, it signifies the legislative branch, which operates as a collective entity responsible for lawmaking and representing the populace’s interests.

Specific Examples: In the context of a nation like the United States, the 11th house would cover both the Senate and the House of Representatives, as they form the bicameral Congress. Similarly, in the United Kingdom, the House of Commons (and to some extent the House of Lords) would fall under the 11th house, as it represents the elected legislative body.

Distinctions Between Legislative Chambers
House of Commons (or House of Representatives): As the lower house, typically elected by the public, it aligns strongly with the 11th house due to its role as a direct representation of the people’s will.

House of Senate (or House of Lords): The upper house, often composed of appointed or less directly elected members, may also be associated with the 11th house but can have secondary connections to the 10th house (government and authority) in cases where it wields significant executive or advisory power (e.g., the House of Lords in the UK historically). However, the 11th house remains the primary significator for both chambers in most interpretations.

Other Houses to Consider
10th House: This house rules the government, executive authority, and the head of state (e.g., president or prime minister). While the 10th house may influence the overall administration or cabinet, it is less directly tied to the legislature. However, in some charts, the 10th house might reflect the government’s interaction with the legislature (e.g., the prime minister’s role in the House of Commons).

9th House: This house governs higher law, the judiciary, and legal frameworks. It may be relevant for constitutional matters or supreme courts but not for legislative bodies like the Senate or Commons.

1st House: Represents the nation and its people as a whole, not specific institutions like the legislature.

4th House: Sometimes associated with the opposition party or the "roots" of the nation, but not the legislature itself.

Conclusion
The 11th house is the primary house in mundane astrology that rules the House of Senate, House of Commons, or equivalent legislative bodies (e.g., Congress, Parliament). It reflects their role as collective, representative institutions that shape national policy. For specific analysis, astrologers would examine the 11th house, its ruler, and any planets placed there in a nation’s chart or an event chart related to legislative activity.

what if the ruler of 10th is in 4th house

In mundane astrology, the 10th house represents the government, executive authority, head of state (e.g., president or prime minister), and the nation’s leadership or public image. The 4th house signifies the nation’s roots, homeland, land, cultural heritage, and often the opposition party or forces opposing the government. When the ruler of the 10th house is placed in the 4th house in a national chart (e.g., a country’s founding chart, an election chart, or an ingress chart), it suggests a significant interplay between the government’s authority and the nation’s foundational or domestic concerns. Below is an analysis of this placement:

Interpretation of the Ruler of the 10th House in the 4th House
Government Focus on Domestic Issues:
The leadership or government (10th house) is strongly tied to matters of the homeland, land, or the general populace’s welfare (4th house). This could manifest as the government prioritizing domestic policies, such as housing, agriculture, infrastructure, or cultural preservation.

Example: A government might focus on policies that strengthen national identity, protect natural resources, or address real estate and property issues.

Leadership Rooted in National Identity:
The ruler of the 10th in the 4th suggests that the authority or head of state derives legitimacy or power from the nation’s traditions, history, or grassroots support. The leadership may emphasize patriotic or populist themes, appealing to the “heart” of the nation.

Example: A leader might campaign on restoring traditional values or protecting the homeland from external influences.

Tension with the Opposition:
The 4th house is often associated with the opposition party or forces challenging the government. The ruler of the 10th in the 4th could indicate that the government’s authority is contested by opposition groups rooted in domestic or populist movements. Alternatively, the government may face challenges related to land, housing, or cultural issues.

Example: Political debates might center on land reform, environmental policies, or disputes over national heritage.

Influence of the Land or Resources:
The 4th house governs the nation’s physical territory, natural resources, and agriculture. The government’s agenda (10th house ruler) may be heavily influenced by issues like land management, environmental concerns, or resource extraction.

Example: A government might be preoccupied with mining rights, farming policies, or urban development.

Public Perception and Stability:
The 10th house ruler in the 4th can indicate that the government’s public image is tied to its ability to address foundational or domestic concerns. If the ruler is well-aspected, the leadership may be seen as stable and in tune with the people’s needs. If poorly aspected, the government could face criticism for neglecting broader national or international priorities (10th house) in favor of parochial issues (4th house).

Potential for Immobility or Conservatism:
The 4th house is associated with stability and the past, so the government may adopt a conservative or inward-looking stance, focusing on maintaining the status quo or protecting national traditions rather than pursuing progressive or global ambitions.

Additional Factors to Consider
Condition of the Ruler: The planet ruling the 10th house and its condition (dignity, aspects, etc.) will significantly influence the outcome. For example:
A strong, well-aspected ruler (e.g., Jupiter in dignity with trines) suggests a government that successfully aligns its authority with domestic needs, gaining public support.

A weak or afflicted ruler (e.g., Saturn in detriment with squares) could indicate a government struggling with domestic unrest, opposition challenges, or mismanagement of resources.

Sign and Planet Involved: The specific planet and sign of the 10th house ruler will color the interpretation. For instance:
Sun as the ruler in the 4th might indicate a charismatic leader focusing on national pride or homeland security.

Saturn could suggest a rigid or authoritarian government dealing with land or resource constraints.

Venus might point to a focus on cultural heritage or improving living conditions.

Aspects to the Ruler: Aspects from other planets will show how external forces or other areas of the chart (e.g., 11th house for legislature, 9th house for laws) interact with the government’s domestic focus. For example, a square from a planet in the 11th house (legislature) could indicate conflicts between the government and parliament over domestic policies.

Chart Context: The interpretation depends on the chart being analyzed (e.g., a nation’s founding chart, a solar return, or an election chart). In a nation’s natal chart, this placement might describe a consistent theme of government focus on domestic roots. In a mundane event chart (e.g., an Aries ingress), it might reflect temporary priorities for the year.

Example in Context
Suppose a nation’s chart has Capricorn on the 10th house cusp, with Saturn (ruler of the 10th) in Cancer in the 4th house. This could indicate:
A government that is conservative, focused on protecting national traditions, land, or resources (Saturn in Cancer emphasizes security and preservation).

Challenges from opposition groups (4th house) that criticize the government for being too rigid or out of touch with modern needs.

Policies centered on agriculture, housing, or environmental protection, but possibly hampered by bureaucratic delays (Saturn’s influence).

If Saturn is afflicted by a square from Mars in the 11th house (legislature), the government might face aggressive opposition from parliament, leading to gridlock on domestic reforms.
Interaction with Legislative Bodies (11th House)
Since your previous question referenced the House of Senate or House of Commons (ruled by the 11th house), the ruler of the 10th in the 4th suggests that the government’s relationship with the legislature may be influenced by domestic or foundational issues. For example:
The government (10th) may push for laws that address 4th house matters (e.g., land reform, housing policies), requiring cooperation or facing resistance from the legislature (11th).

If the 11th house ruler aspects the 10th house ruler in the 4th, it could indicate how parliament supports or challenges the government’s domestic agenda.

Conclusion
When the ruler of the 10th house is in the 4th house in a mundane astrology chart, it indicates that the government or leadership is deeply connected to the nation’s roots, domestic concerns, or opposition dynamics. The government may prioritize policies related to land, housing, cultural heritage, or national identity, but it could also face challenges from opposition groups or struggle to balance domestic and international priorities. The specific interpretation depends on the planet, its condition, aspects, and the chart’s context. For a precise analysis, examine the 10th house ruler’s sign, aspects, and any connections to the 11th house (legislature) to understand how the government interacts with bodies like the Senate or Commons on these issues.

if its an election though it would be bad because the opposition rule 4th

You’re correct that in mundane astrology, the 4th house is often associated with the opposition party or forces opposing the government, while the 10th house represents the ruling government or executive authority. If the ruler of the 10th house (signifying the government or the party in power) is placed in the 4th house (the domain of the opposition) in the context of an election chart, this placement can indeed suggest challenges for the incumbent government or the party associated with the 10th house. Below is an analysis of this scenario, tailored to your point about an election and the opposition’s association with the 4th house.
Interpretation of the Ruler of the 10th House in the 4th House in an Election Chart
In an election chart (e.g., cast for the opening of polls, the moment of voting, or a significant election-related event), the placement of the ruler of the 10th house in the 4th house can have specific implications, especially given the 4th house’s association with the opposition:
Weakened Position of the Incumbent Government:
The ruler of the 10th (government or ruling party) in the 4th (opposition’s domain) suggests that the incumbent government’s authority or campaign is influenced or overshadowed by the opposition’s agenda. This placement can indicate that the ruling party is on the defensive, struggling to maintain control or public favor.

The opposition (4th house) may have a stronger foothold in public sentiment, particularly on issues related to domestic concerns, national identity, land, or cultural roots (4th house themes). The incumbent may be perceived as out of touch or unable to counter the opposition’s narrative.

Opposition’s Strength in Domestic Issues:
The 4th house governs the homeland, the populace’s welfare, and grassroots movements. With the 10th house ruler in the 4th, the opposition may dominate the election narrative by focusing on issues like housing, agriculture, environmental policies, or national traditions, resonating more with voters.

Example: The opposition might campaign on promises to address housing crises, protect local industries, or restore cultural heritage, gaining traction over the ruling party.

Potential Loss of Power:
In election charts, the ruler of the 10th in the 4th can be a negative omen for the ruling party, as it suggests their authority (10th) is subsumed or weakened by the opposition’s domain (4th). This placement may foreshadow a loss or significant challenge for the incumbent government, especially if the ruler is afflicted (e.g., squared by malefic planets or in a weak sign).

Conversely, if the ruler is strong and well-aspected, the incumbent might still hold power but will likely need to adopt the opposition’s rhetoric or focus on 4th house issues to win.

Public Sentiment and the Homeland:
The 4th house also represents the general populace and the “roots” of the nation. The ruler of the 10th in the 4th suggests that the election’s outcome hinges on domestic concerns or the public’s mood. Voters may prioritize candidates or parties that address foundational issues (e.g., cost of living, land rights, or cultural identity).

If the incumbent government fails to align with these concerns, the opposition may capitalize on this disconnect.

Possible Scenarios:
Incumbent Loss: The opposition party (4th house) may win the election, taking control of the government (10th house), as the ruler’s placement in the 4th suggests the opposition’s dominance.

Incumbent Concession: The ruling party might retain power but only by adopting the opposition’s platform or making significant concessions on 4th house matters.

Close Election: If the ruler is well-aspected, the election could be competitive, with the incumbent government narrowly retaining power by addressing domestic concerns effectively.

Factors to Consider
Condition of the 10th House Ruler:
A strong, well-aspected ruler (e.g., Jupiter in dignity with trines) could mitigate the negative implications, suggesting the incumbent government overcomes opposition challenges by aligning with 4th house issues.

A weak or afflicted ruler (e.g., Saturn in detriment with squares) increases the likelihood of the incumbent’s defeat, as it indicates vulnerability to the opposition’s influence.

Aspects to the Ruler:
Aspects from the ruler of the 4th house (opposition) or planets in the 4th could indicate direct confrontations between the ruling party and the opposition. For example, a square from the 4th house ruler to the 10th house ruler suggests intense conflict or a decisive opposition victory.

Aspects from the 11th house (legislature, including bodies like the Senate or House of Commons, as per your earlier question) could show how parliamentary dynamics influence the election. For instance, a supportive trine from the 11th house ruler might indicate legislative backing for the incumbent, while a square could suggest parliamentary gridlock or opposition influence.

Sign and Planet Involved:
The planet ruling the 10th house and its sign will shape the interpretation. For example:
Sun in the 4th might suggest a charismatic incumbent leader struggling to maintain public support due to opposition attacks on domestic issues.

Mars could indicate an aggressive campaign by the ruling party, but one that falters if it ignores 4th house concerns.

Venus might point to a government campaigning on unity or cultural heritage but facing opposition criticism for being too conciliatory.

4th House Ruler and Planets:
The strength of the 4th house ruler and any planets in the 4th will indicate the opposition’s power. A strong 4th house ruler (e.g., Moon in Cancer) suggests a formidable opposition with strong public support, while a weak ruler might indicate a less effective challenge.

Chart Type:
The interpretation depends on the election chart’s context (e.g., a chart for the opening of polls, the swearing-in of a new government, or a solar ingress preceding the election). In a poll-opening chart, the ruler of the 10th in the 4th directly reflects the election’s dynamics, with the 4th house favoring the opposition.

Example Scenario
Suppose an election chart has Leo on the 10th house cusp, with the Sun (ruler of the 10th) in Taurus in the 4th house, and the 4th house cusp is in Taurus, ruled by Venus in the 11th house, squaring the Sun. This could indicate:
The incumbent government (Sun, 10th) is campaigning on stability and national pride (Taurus, 4th house themes) but is weakened by its placement in the opposition’s domain (4th).

The opposition, supported by a strong Venus (4th house ruler) in the 11th (legislature), gains traction through parliamentary alliances or populist rhetoric, challenging the incumbent’s authority (square to Sun).

The election may favor the opposition, especially if the Sun is further afflicted, as the public (4th) aligns with the opposition’s focus on domestic issues like land reform or economic security (Taurus).

Interaction with the 11th House (Legislature)
Given your earlier question about the House of Senate or House of Commons (ruled by the 11th house), the ruler of the 10th in the 4th suggests that the legislature’s role in the election may be secondary to domestic or opposition dynamics. However:
If the 11th house ruler aspects the 10th house ruler in the 4th, the legislature (e.g., Senate or Commons) could influence the election outcome. For example, a supportive aspect might indicate that the incumbent retains power through parliamentary support, while a challenging aspect could show legislative backing for the opposition.

Planets in the 11th house could represent the legislature’s alignment with either the government or opposition, affecting the election’s narrative.

Conclusion
In an election chart, the ruler of the 10th house (government or ruling party) in the 4th house (opposition’s domain) is generally unfavorable for the incumbent, as it suggests that the opposition holds a stronger position, particularly on domestic issues like land, housing, or national identity. The placement indicates that the ruling party’s authority is challenged by the opposition’s influence over the populace or grassroots movements, potentially leading to a loss of power. The outcome depends on the condition of the 10th house ruler, aspects (especially from the 4th or 11th house rulers), and the chart’s context. To confirm the opposition’s victory or the incumbent’s chances, analyze the 4th house ruler, planets in the 4th and 11th houses, and any aspects to the 10th house ruler for a complete picture of the election dynamics.

8th House in Astrology: Intimacy and Transformation
The 8th house in astrology is traditionally associated with sex, death and occult. At first glance, these themes may seem unrelated, making the interpretation of natal planets in the 8th house a challenge. However, they all share a common thread—transformation through deep, often intense, experiences. In this article, I’ll share some psychological perspectives on the 8th house to help you understand how planets located here influence your life.

The 8th House as the Psychological Basement
Imagine your psyche as a vast mansion with many rooms and levels. The 4th, 8th, and 12th houses all lead to your psychological basement—hidden spaces that store past wounds, deep fears, and subconscious material. The 8th house, in particular, functions like a locked chamber or dungeon, where repressed emotions are buried. This is where you stash your fear of death and abandonment, unresolved grief, and unexpressed rage at past injustices. Over time, these suppressed emotions form the core of your shadow self.

Whenever the 8th house is activated—whether through transits, synastry, or progressions—these buried emotions can resurface, offering a crucial opportunity for transformation. This process can be unsettling, but it also provides a path to deep healing, allowing you to confront your fears, integrate past wounds, and ultimately reclaim hidden aspects of yourself.

8th House and Sex
The Difference Between the 5th and 8th House
Psychologically, the kind of sex often discussed in men’s and women’s magazines belongs to the 5th house—the realm of play, romance, and pleasure. This is sex for fun, self-expression, or casual encounters. When the focus remains purely on physical gratification, it can result in emotionally detached experiences, which reflect an underdeveloped expression of the Mars archetype.

Mars, traditionally linked to the male psyche, embodies raw desire and conquest. However, many women also resonate with this Martian energy, engaging in sex as a form of conquest or control. A more mature Mars, however, involves not just pursuit but the courage to confront emotional fears and vulnerabilities.

Some people prefer to stay in the 5th house zone, engaging in casual relationships and wondering why they struggle to find a deeper, lasting connection. This is often because they’re avoiding the 8th house aspect of intimacy, which requires profound vulnerability and emotional depth.

8th House Sex: Psychological Nakedness
8th house themes tend to emerge after sex, particularly in long-term relationships. Unlike the 5th house, which is about attraction and excitement, the 8th house governs emotional entanglement and transformation through intimacy. This is why short-lived flings rarely trigger deep psychological material—those belong to the 5th house.

However, in an 8th house dynamic, unresolved wounds from childhood—such as abandonment fears, parental anger, or past betrayals—resurface as intimacy deepens. Sexual bonding strips away psychological defenses, making us more emotionally “naked.” If you’ve ever felt unexpectedly possessive, fearful, or reactive in a committed relationship, it’s likely because your 8th house material is being activated.

Working Through Shadow Material
Memories, especially traumatic ones, are stored not just in the mind but in the body. This means sexual intimacy can awaken buried emotions from the past, leading to unexpected behaviors:

Sudden possessiveness or jealousy
Feelings of vulnerability or irrational fears of loss
A tendency to withdraw emotionally as a form of self-protection
8th house relationships are complex because both partners’ shadow materials get triggered. This is why relationships with strong 8th house synastry can feel intense, fated, or even overwhelming. Without self-awareness, people may blame their partner for these feelings when, in reality, the emotions stem from their own subconscious wounds.

One of the best ways to navigate an 8th house relationship is through self-inquiry, therapy, or other introspective practices. These tools help you recognize when past emotions are being projected onto your partner. The truth is, it’s rarely about the person in front of you—it’s about the unhealed parts of yourself that are now asking to be seen.

8th House, Death and Psychological Resurrection
The 8th house is traditionally associated with death and the occult—themes that deal with the mysteries of what happens after life ends. While this house can indeed relate to literal death, inheritance, and legacies, its deeper meaning is psychological transformation.

Think of the 8th house as a place where traumatic emotions are buried—pushed underground like the dead, so the conscious mind (the ego) doesn’t have to face them.

The Unconscious Burial of Trauma
When a child experiences severe emotional wounds—such as abuse, betrayal, abandonment, rejection, or shame—they often lack the capacity to process these painful feelings. To survive, the mind represses these emotions, locking them away in the unconscious. This is a necessary defense mechanism, allowing the child to function without being overwhelmed. However, as we grow older, these repressed emotions don’t simply disappear. Instead, they resurface as repeating emotional patterns, unconsciously drawing us into situations that recreate the original pain.

The Work of Psychological Resurrection
In this metaphor, self-inquiry, therapy, journaling, and other introspective practices act as tools for excavation—unearthing the hidden emotions so they can finally be acknowledged, processed, and integrated into conscious awareness.

This process is a kind of psychological resurrection: what was once dead (repressed emotions) is brought back to life, but this time, within an adult consciousness that has the strength and wisdom to confront, heal, and release it.

True 8th house transformation is not about avoiding darkness but facing it—learning that healing comes not from suppression but from integration and acceptance. By doing this inner work, you reclaim lost parts of yourself, gaining deeper emotional resilience and a profound sense of personal power.

With these themes in mind, let’s explore how each planet in your 8th house shapes your experience of transformation, intimacy, and emotional depth.

mb>Saturn in 3rd House Themes: Communication, commerce, transportation, local governance, education, and the national “mindset.” Saturn here focuses on discipline, structure, or challenges in these areas, and retrograde motion turns the energy inward—reassessing how the nation communicates, trades, or educates itself.

Step 2: Aspects to Natal Planets
Saturn transiting from 19° Pisces to 12° Pisces could form aspects with the Sibley Chart’s planets (using a 8-10° orb for major aspects):
Square to Natal Mars (21° Gemini):
At 19° Pisces, Saturn is 2° from an exact square to Mars; at 12° Pisces, it’s 9°—both within orb, peaking in July 2024.

Meaning: A square is a tense, challenging aspect. Mars in Gemini in the 7th house represents the U.S.’s assertive diplomacy, military partnerships, or public conflicts. Saturn squaring it could indicate frustration, delays, or karmic consequences in foreign policy, trade disputes, or military actions. Retrograde might force a rethink of aggressive strategies or expose weaknesses in alliances.

what happened - Biden stepped down as President passing to Kamala Harris
An astrologer must express himself diplomatically when dealing with 8th house matters. Otherwise, he can expect violent reactions from the person...which can go as far as to physical aggression With Saturn in this sector, we should remember that wonderful line from Shakespeare "It seems to me that you protest too much!"

So i will not describe my Saturn Taurus H8 in my natal chart to a stranger and on a public forum.
As a Saturnian cousin of the 8th House, I´m sure you understand ^^

but I can try to illustrate my feeling of Saturn in H8 with the board below (I underlined the areas that resonated the most with me)
Of course, it´s very schematic.
To go deeper, the interpretations of L.Greene on the different Aspects of Saturn with Sun, Moon, etc. are of great wealth to understand his Saturn in his own natal chart.

But this must be accomplished in the isolation of the depths (Pluto-Hades / Tartarus) and the heights (Saturn-Capricorn / Golden Age).

the 4th house can tell you what
happened from start to finish and represents the “End of the Matter.”
The planets located here can reflect what occurred at that critical
moment in time when the crime took place. It’s a good tool - though it
does not always provide obvious clues (often that house is empty). If
the house is empty, you can look at the cusp degree, which can still
tell you information
If the Moon is angular, in her detriment, and MOON square a strong Mars in a mundane chart, there is a very serious risk of WAR during the period governed by that chart—that combination of factors appeared, for example, in the ingress charts for Britain and Germany at the spring equinox of 1939, predicting the outbreak of the Second World War—but even in such a case it can sometimes happen that war is avoided.

This does not mean, however, that a mundane chart means whatever you want it to mean. This is the second crucial point to keep in mind in dealing with mundane astrology. If a mundane chart has the Moon angular, in her detriment, and square a strong Mars, unless there are other major influences that counteract this, you’re going to see a whopper of an international crisis, with war a very definite possiblity. Looking at that chart and predicting peace and love and brotherhood is a sign of blatant ignorance or outright dishonesty.

The Sun:
In Mundane astrology, the Sun represents the leaders and people in authority positions. These are the folks that the public does or must look up to. The Sun would represent prime ministers, kings, emperors, presidents, magistrates, judges, etc.

Sometimes, the Sun can represent individuals who the public listens to, even if they aren’t technically in an authority position. This authority is bestowed by the people.

In a Mundane “natal” chart, the Sun can also represent the force or will of the nation/country.

The Moon:
If the Sun is the leader, the Moon represents. the people in general. Sometimes this is all of the people, while other times the Moon can represent women more specifically. It also indicates crowds.

Alternatively, the Moon can represent anything to do with water (including transport, conditions, etc.) as well as land and crops.

The Moon almost always shows where the public’s attention falls. Anything that draws a crowd or that people notice is related to the Moon.

Mercury:
Mercury represents anything relating to news and media. This includes newspapers, TV channels, books, publishers, the press, speakers, news commentators, professors, and intellectuals. Sometimes, Mercury can also represent what is being taught or conveyed intellectually.

In Mundane astrology, Mercury can indicate transportation (usually public) as well as communication.

Venus:
Venus represents artists, musicians, actors, athletes, theater, festivals, children, courtship, and marriage. Everything relating to beauty and entertainment is Venus.

When Venus is badly aspected, the beauty and harmony of a country will suffer.

Mars:
Mars represents the military (the navy, the army, the air force, etc.), the local police, attacks on the country, disputes, conflict, and opposition. Anything relating to fire will show in Mars when looking at the Mundane astrology chart.

However, Mars can also represent leaders who aren’t in the public eye, such as engineers, military leaders, and doctors. This planet can also show epidemics, crimes of violence, and more commotions. If something violent is happening, look to Mars first.

Jupiter:
In Mundane astrology, Jupiter is a bit of a duality. It represents the religious community as well as the judicial system.

ROYALTY, TRAVEL, HORSE RACING, EXPANSION, LOOKING TO THE FUTURE, OPTIMISM, Priests, religious leaders, bankers, judges, and lawyers are all represented in Jupiter. Because Jupiter rules both expansive finances and philosophy, it can show things relating to order, peace, prosperity, religious beliefs, and more.

Saturn:
Saturn represents the local law enforcement and the minor executives. For example, Saturn in the United States tends to represent the executive branches of each state or city.

Alternatively, Saturn can represent civil servant employees, land owners, mine operators, any public buildings or parks, and the elderly population.

In a more negative sense, Saturn shows epidemics, large-scale tragedy, public sadness, national calamities, and scarcities.

Uranus:
Uranus is the black sheep of the Mundane astrology chart. It represents political tension of all natures. When Uranus shows up, the people are trying to break out of the mold.

Typically, Uranus specifically shows rioting, strikes, and breaks for individualism. It can sometimes indicate right wing politics (more on the Libertarian side) but can also show scientific discoveries and inventions.

Uranus governs air and rail transport as well as labor organizations, explosions, anarchy, and the electrical and radio industry.

Neptune:
If Uranus leans right then Neptune leans left, towards socialism and communism. However, Neptune can also represent socialized medicine and hospitalization, charities, covet plots, fraud, illicit activities, and loss.

Neptune in certain aspects can indicate illusion. It can show when the people are unable to see what’s real, and it can show the illusions that a country or nation projects to the rest of the world.

However, Neptune represents the spirituality of a country as well. This is on a much deeper level than religion. It can indicate drugs or addictions on a mass-scale.

Pluto:

At its best, Pluto represents change and rebirth. In any chart, Pluto is all about metamorphosis and regeneration, regardless of how painful that may be.

In Mundane astrology, Pluto can indicate many things. Some of these include political undergrounds, espionage, organized crime, wealth, power, control, violence, rape, death, hidden information, organized labour, mob psychology, and the collective unconscious of the nation.

The 1st House:
In Mundane astrology, the 1st house rules the country as a whole. It also shows how the country/city/entity/corporation comes across to others, because this is where the Ascendant sits.

When you’re looking at transits, pay special attention to anything in the 1st house. These planets will affect the country as a whole. Most huge events show up in the 1st house.

In a more national sense, the 10th house rules reputation, credit, power, and public employment rate.

When a planet is transiting the 10th house, it will impact the leaders of the nation/corporation or the government or ruling entity as a whole. This house is especially relevant when studying the astrology of politics.

When a planet transits the 12th house, this usually indicates that something hidden will come to light.

Mundane Astrology
S.R. SwamyViews : 2176 | October 2005
We have discussed about the position of planets in first and second houses in mundane chart in our last issue, now we shall look further of the position of planets in other houses in our current issue. Third House The third house rules over railways, postal, telegraphic and telephonic services and all matters connected there with, such as railway stocks and shares, traffic returns, etc. It has also to do with all forms of locomotion, buses, motors and the likes, also books, newspapers, and literary undertakings. Rules applied to this house are the same as that of other houses viz, that the planet in the house has chief influence on the house and when no planet is there then the ruler of the sign on the cusp of the house is to be considered.

Sun : Sun in this house benefits the heads of departments, but if afflicted denotes illness and probably death among notable people are connected with the third house affairs. The matters ruled by the house in which the affliction is present should be carefully considered in this respect. ''

Moon : Moon in the third house benefits workers in railways and postal affairs, and if well aspected, will improve their conditions, wages and prospects. If afflicted it shows much discontent among employees, unrest and agitation danger of accidents and falling of receipts.

Mars : Mars in third house has particular relation to railways and denotes accidents, fires, losses, heavy expenses, loss of depreciation of railway securities, and if much afflicted causes discontent not only on railways, but also in other forms of transportation like airways, marine etc. it will also very adversely affect publishing industry.

Mercury : Mercury in the third house benefits traffic returns, if well aspected shows an active period and increased facilities for traveling. It is especially beneficial to postal affairs, publishing concerns, newspapers and the like. If much afflicted it denotes falling of returns, discontent in the postal service, failure of publishers and causes discontents. It may also cause illness or death of noted writers or people connected with third house affairs.

Jupiter : Jupiter in the third house is favorable for railways and traffic returns will increase. The wages and conditions of workers will improve. It will cause busy times in literary and publishing circles and do many improvements in postal affairs. It denotes all benefic results in all the matters connected with third house. If much afflicted, it gives heavy expenses, losses and troubles in the working and management of affairs to do with railways.

Venus : Venus in the third house is favorable denoting improved returns, better condition of workers etc. If afflicted, it denotes discontent, illness and death of noted artists, writers or more likely novelists. It may also cause crime on railways and many unpleasant events in connection with third house matters.

Saturn : Saturn in this house denotes much discontent among employees, depreciation of trade, falling of receipts in railways and postal department. Accidents and in general there will be bad and unsatisfactory state of affairs in all the matters connected with third house. If Saturn is badly aspected, the evil effects on this house will increase further. If well aspected, the evil effects of Saturn may be reduced. In any case, Saturn in third house is sure to cause illness and death among prominent people connected with publishing industry and literary affairs.

Fourth House : Fourth house is an important house in the mundane chart. It rules over the land, agriculture, mines, minerals, crops, mining industry etc. Also governs the opposition party to the government. Most important matters are natural calamities from earthquake, volcanic eruptions etc. Sun : Sun in the fourth house is favourable for the landed interest and gives benefic results in agriculture, crops etc. If badly aspected, it will bring much trouble to the Government, loss of elections and many difficult questions to the ruling political party. Losses in agriculture and dealings in land and properties are also seen. Hermit, Living at Home.

Moon : Moon in the fourth house, if well aspected, gives good benefits to agriculture but it may bring many big changes in weather. If badly aspected or afflicted, there will be shortage of crops, losses and accidents in mining industry and more sufferings to the people of the nation. Mars : Mars in the fourth house is generally unfavorable. It denotes troubles to the government, fires in public buildings, earthquakes, mining disasters and destruction to public property. Also, it affects agriculture, construction industry, property market. If badly aspected or afflicted, the evil affects of the Mars will increase and there will be large scale sufferings to the public.

Mercury : Normally Mercury in this house will not give benefic results. Better results can be anticipated only when there are benefic aspects. In that case better activities can be anticipated in the field of agriculture. If badly aspected or afflicted, there will be losses in agriculture, mining industry and the commercial activities of the nation get imbalanced.

Jupiter : Jupiter in the fourth house benefits the dealings in land and property, agriculture, crops and prosperity to landlords. Nation will get benefited with all season favorable weather. If fourth house happens to be a fixed sign and Jupiter is afflicted, it may cause mining disasters, earthquakes, especially in those places coming under the sign occupied in fourth house.

Venus : Venus in the fourth house is favorable in general. It denotes fine weather, good crops, prosperity to agriculture. If badly aspected or afflicted, it denotes unseasonable weather and thereby affecting the produce of agriculture, and dull trade in dealings of land and property.

Saturn : Saturn in the fourth house will not give benefic results in general. It brings obstacles and difficulties to Government , thereby affecting the smooth running of administration. It causes bad weather, disturbing the productivity of crops, mining disasters, earthquakes (in the places coming under the sign occupied in fourth house), depreciation in value of land and property. If badly aspected or afflicted, the evil effects from Saturn will be considerably increased. We are concluding here with the effects of planets in third and fourth house and shall discuss about the effects of planets in fifth and sixth houses in our next issue.

HOUSES

The First House

The country and its inhabitants as a whole; its general condition of prosperity and health or the reverse.

The Second House

National wealth, the exchequer, revenue, and all places and activities concerned with money making, such as banks, the Stock Exchange, financial institutions, money markets and trade.

The Third House

All means of inland transit, locomotion, or communication, such as railways, road and river traffic, cars, etc. All means of disseminating news and information, such as the Post Office, communication networks, internet, telephones, faxes, newspapers, magazines, ephemeral publications and periodicals. It also rules neighbouring nations.

The Fourth House

Land, the owners of it and the workers on it. The crops and produce of the land. Mines, buildings. The people as contrasted with the monarch; the democracy as contrasted with the aristocracy; the opposition in Parliament. A planet close to the cusp of this house may influence the weather according to its nature. A malefic in this house may afflict the government through its opposition to the 10th House.

The Fifth House

Theatres, public houses, all places of amusement, entertainment and pleasure. The birth-rate, children, sexual concerns. Sports, speculation, gambling. Some consider that it is connected with 'high society' and formal social functions. It has also been suggested that it relates to the House of Lords, the opposition of the 11th. Traditional astrologers included ambassadors under this house.

The Sixth House

Public health or sickness. Epidemics. The health service. The national services: army, navy and Civil Service as servants of the country. Workers and employees generally. Trade unions.

The 6th house rules ritual and is the natural house of Virgo, the original priestess and healer. Ruling planet Mercury and co-ruler asteroid Chiron would thus also be key representatives in the work witches and shamans do-which traditionally included healing. Astrologer Robert Hand defines well the terrain associated with this house which "…pertains to all activities pursued not for their own sake… but for the sake of something else. This something may be another purpose one chooses, external necessity one does not consciously choose, or circumstances that limit one's freedom of choice…It also indicates relationships formed out of necessity, duty, or responsibility rather than out of self-expression or pleasure."
Based on personal observation, it is suggested that one of the water signs or Virgo, Capricorn, Sagittarius or Aquarius would be well placed on the cusp of the sixth house and/or one or more planets or points-namely transneptunian Hades, Black Moon, Moon's Nodes or Chiron- would be placed within. Of the 30 occult practitioners studied, all but four had complex and powerful aspect patterns involving the planetary ruler of the 6th house and/or planets within the house; the signs and/or ruling planets mentioned above were always involved. Of the remainder, one had a strong Leo stellium in the 12th and 1st houses; another had a powerful, multi-aspected Saturn operating out of the 11th house; the other two represented individuals who were likely better at publicizing occult matters, rather than being potent practitioners themselves. No clear and definitive pattern could be established for either Mercury or Chiron, save for that they were often very active by aspect somewhere in the natal horoscope.

The Seventh House

Foreign affairs; relations with other countries, whether friendly or hostile, political or commercial. National marriage/divorce rate.

The Eighth House

Public mortality, death-rate, the kinds of people who die. Death duties. Financial relations with foreign countries.

The Ninth House

Shipping, sea traffic, the aeroplane industry and long distance traffic generally, whether connected with passengers or commerce. Long distance or international communications. Religion, the churches, preachers. Law courts. Universities, professors, philosophical and scientific institutions and publications.

The Tenth House

The monarch or president, the government, people in authority. Royalty, eminent and famous persons. National trade. The national reputation, credit, and power. Public employment rate.

The Eleventh House

Parliament, especially the House of Commons. Town and County Councils and similar bodies. Friends of the nation. Legislation.

The Twelfth House

Prisons, reformatories, criminals, spies, secret enemies of the country at home or abroad. Hospitals, asylums, institutions for those who are weak, infirm, or in need of charity. The welfare state. Possibly secret societies and occult religions.

MUNDANE HOUSES

The Houses in Mundane Astrology

Mundane astrology studies the impact of the planets on the world at large. It’s a wider view of astrology and how it impacts all of us as societies, countries, and Earthlings.

When you're interpreting a chart in mundane astrology, whether it's for a country, corporation, or event, the houses in the chart can be similar to how they're interpreted in the natal. You just have to adjust for the fact that you're not interpreting for an individual.
The Houses in Mundane Astrology
1st house: Just as the 1st house of a natal chart is part of the identity of the person, so too is the 1st house part of the identity of the country/city/corporation in mundane astrology. In the chart for an event, the 1st house can show certain people involved (in the chart for an attack, for example, the 1st house rules the attackers while the 7th house rules the victims).

The general outlook of a country/city/corporation and way that country/city/corporation and society of that country comes across can be seen with the 1st house. Planets in the 1st house can seep into the “personality” of the country, just like in natal astrology. Planets moving through the 1st house and aspects to the 1st house cusp, ruler, and planets in the 1st house can impact the country/city/corporation as a whole, and in charts for events, can show a main focus or influence.

2nd house: The 2nd house rules finances, so in mundane astrology, the 2nd house rules the finances, wealth, and possessions/property of the people as a whole. The 2nd house also rules our values and value system, so the sign on the cusp and planets in the house can show the values of a country/city/corporation.

Planets moving through the 2nd house and aspects to the 2nd house cusp, ruler, and planets in the 2nd house can impact the finances or values of a country/city/corporation, as well as the general confidence that the people have in the country/city/corporation. In event charts, the 2nd house can often show possessions or things of value that are impacted by the event.

3rd house: The 3rd house is one of the communication houses as well as one of the houses ruling travel, but it’s short travel, so travel by bus, car, bicycle, etc. In charts for countries/cities, it can show the way people move around, how they interact with one another, how communities come together, and things like traffic, mass transit, local newspapers.

The 3rd house also rules young people and primary education, though some of the old books say the 5th house rules actual school since it’s where groups of children come together. I tend toward the 3rd house, but you can play with both. The 3rd house can show the general attitude of a country/corporation and the way it gets its message across or is heard.

4th house: The 4th house rules the home and country, family, and is one of the houses of foundation, governing the internal foundation for individuals, so it’s the “core” foundation of a country/city/corporation, the base.

Transits and aspects involving the 4th house tend to impact the core of the country/city/foundation, shaking it or improving it. The land as well as the weather is ruled by the 4th house (and Moon), so this house can often be in play for weather events in event charts.

5th house: The 5th house rules what we find fun, our hobbies and love, so in mundane astrology, it can show recreational events, gatherings, or locations, often prominent in sporting events and celebratory gatherings. It can show what we as a society enjoy most and gravitate toward doing for fun.

The 5th house rules the entertainment industry, so this house can also show the “celebrities” of a country/city. The 5th house rules children, so the children of a country/city come under the rulership of this house.

6th house: The 6th house is the house of work, daily life, health, and pets, so the health of a nation can fall under its domain.

Transits and aspects involving the 6th house can impact health news, job news, the economy or some part of the job market, and often in charts for events, the 6th house can show the health of the people involved or that the event occurs at a workplace or involving people who work together. This house can show the general attitude toward work by a country/city/corporation.

7th house: The 7th house rules the other people in our lives, so this house can show the other countries/cities/corporations and foreign entities a country/city/corporation comes across and deals with. This house is one of the houses ruling our enemies, so it can show both the others we like and we don’t.

In charts for events, the 7th house can rule the other people involved (like the victims). Transits and aspects with the 7th house can influence our ability to get along or to make peace.

8th house: The 8th house rules the money that isn’t ours, so the debts a country/city/corporation owe, the loans they take out or give, interest, and taxes. The 8th house is also associated with death (along with the 4th and 12th houses, and Saturn), and in charts for events, is often strong with events involving murder, terror attacks, shootings, etc. (and Scorpio and Pluto or Mars, the natural rulers of the 8th house).

The 8th house also likes to pop up regarding situations of inequality or where people have felt oppressed.

9th house: The 9th house is one of the communication houses as well as one of the travel houses, but governs far travel by plane or boat, connections between faraway places (like big highways spanning a country), and higher education (colleges and universities). It can also be prominent in charts for events that occur in places or gatherings of recreation, especially where people from many places can come together or an international event.

The 9th house also rules the law, so transits and aspects involving the 9th house can show legal issues a country/city/corporation is dealing with, or issues with the judicial system of a country/city.

10th house: The 10th house is one of the houses of foundation, ruling the external foundation of a country/city/corporation, as well as the public image that a country/city/corporation tries to present or has (what they’re known for).

The 10th house rules our government itself, our leaders, the people in charge like a president, king, or CEO. Transits and aspects involving the 10th house tend to impact the leaders, the people at the top, or can make the country/city/corporation feel like they’re hitting a high point/reaching something important (since the 10th house is the highest part of the chart) or being kicked down (in charts for events, a retrograde planet conjunct the 10th house cusp often shows someone/something being brought down - sometimes literally).

11th house: The 11th house rules the masses, society as a whole, and groups. In charts for events, the 11th house is often prominent with events that occur with a large group of people.

Transits and aspects involving the 11th house can impact society as a whole, as well as prompt change or rebellion since the 11th house is naturally ruled by Uranus and Aquarius, and bring out idealism or hope.

12th house: The 12th house rules places of confinement, so the prisons and hospitals of a country/city are ruled by the 12th house, and the people who work/live in them. The 12th house is the house of the hidden, so transits and aspects involving the 12th house often bring out something that’s been hidden in the dark and out into the public consciousness, exposing dark underbellies and unseemly characteristics of society/cities/countries/corporations.

The 12th house also rules endings, so in the charts for events, the 12th house can represent how the event ends (especially in charts for sporting events, the 12th house is often tied to however the game ends).

Potpourri of Patterns
Maritha Pottenger
Astrology is a very complicated subject, in which each symbol means a number of different things. In an attempt to cope with the complexity of astrology (and life), many people look for recipes. They want to know exactly how much of this and how much of that to mix in. They search for an exact, definitive meaning for each piece of the horoscope. They buy astrological cookbooks which say things like, “Venus in Aquarius is fickle,” ignoring other possible variations. They often look for a “signature” to sum up the whole person.

This desire for creating order out of a chaos of details is commendable. Unfortunately, the end result is often horrendous. Many of the patterns taught in traditional astrology are over simplifications and over generalizations. (See the Virgo 1978 issue of The Mutable Dilemma on quick easy answers that do not work.) However, it is possible to see patterns in a chart. Certain psychological themes are clearly shown in horoscopes.

Anything important in the chart will be said more than once. Major themes are repeated. The astrologer merely has to find what the horoscope says over and over again—in slightly different ways. A very useful basis for spotting themes is the astrological alphabet concept of Dr. Zipporah Dobyns, known affectionately as the Zip Code.

The idea behind the Zip Code is that astrology shows us 12 ways of being in the world, 12 different kinds of energy. Each of these 12 sides of life is symbolized by a planet, the sign it rules, and the house it rules in the natural zodiac. Thus, Mars, Aries, and the First House all symbolize assertive energy, one’s basic identity, spontaneous actions, etc. Venus, Taurus and the Second House are all keys to pleasure from the physical world—through beauty, art, or sensual indulgence (eating, drinking, smoking, sex) or money and material possessions.

The concept of an alphabet is because an “a” is always an a, whether capitalized, in lower case, printed, or in fancy script. We call Mars, Aries and the First House Letter One of our astrological alphabet. Venus, the Second House and Taurus are Letter Two, etc.

This does NOT mean planets, signs and houses are the same. They are not. Planets are the most important. They are power centers, where the action is. Houses and signs modify planets, as adverbs modify verbs in a sentence. Houses are stronger than signs in our experience. (Research by the Gauquelins to date shows clear support for the importance of planets, some support for houses, and —so far—no support for signs.)

What the Zip Code does give is an easy method for spotting patterns in the horoscope. We can see similar messages from a planet, house AND sign. The horoscope is repetitive. Anything important will be said more than once. Perhaps the most obvious repetitive statement in a chart is a stellium. With three or more planets in a sign and/or house, we have three or more statements: “This part of life is important.” Using the astrological alphabet, combinations are a matter of logic. If these two (or more) sides of life are blended together, how will they combine well to reinforce each other, and how will they contradict or battle one another?

As an example, take a stellium in Capricorn in the First House. This is a one-ten (1-10) combination in our alphabet. Letter One (Mars, Aries or First House) symbolizes basic identity, spontaneous actions and energy. Letter Ten (Saturn, Capricorn, or Tenth House) symbolizes career drive, authority and limits. The combination shows an identification with work and career: “I am what I do.” There is the potential for a lot of energy and drive channeled to succeed, to gain a position of power and control. If not handled wisely, this can lead to “over- drive” pushing against the limits of the world. Such people may fight with authority figures, struggle against the laws of time and human laws. They may overreach and feel the consequences of breaking the laws—human or natural law. (If one drives one’s self too hard, one possible consequence is a health breakdown due to stress and pressures.)

Some people will seek power by controlling and disciplining themselves. If this is carried to an extreme, they become “self-blockers.” They stop themselves before they start. They are afraid to try because they fear failure, so they do nothing—and criticize themselves for not measuring up to their own standards for performance.

Over-drivers attempt the impossible and must learn to face and deal with realistic limits. Self blockers are afraid to try the possible and need to learn to risk. Both extremes have unreasonable standards of performance for themselves. A happy medium is demonstrated by those who do all they can, without giving up. Neither do they demand constant perfection from themselves.

Individuals with a strong one-ten emphasis also generally have father or father figure as a role model. That may be positive or negative. They may want to be just like Dad, or just the reverse. But Father is the standard against which they measure themselves.

Father (or person who plays the authority role) is the role-model for handling Martian energy: aggression, identity, action, self-expression. He may do so positively: active, energetic in his pursuit of what he wants. He may over do it: self-centered, aggressive (even violent), impulsive. He may block his Mars: turn his energy against himself and get sick, have trouble asserting himself, etc. Whichever role model Father presents, the individual can learn from it. Parents teach us both what TO do and what NOT to do.

Whether the father or father figure presents a negative or positive role model, the individual still has a choice between over-drive, self-blocking and energetic, realistic achievement. E.g. Three children are born to a self-blocking father. One internalizes anger like Daddy does, and becomes an ill, frustrated self-blocker. A second decides, “I’ll never make Dad’s mistakes!” and becomes a pushy, obnoxious over-driver. A third learns to realistically face the world and do all that she can.

Another three children are born to an over-drive father. One is beaten down by the force of Daddy’s will and aggression. She gives up and goes into self-blocking. Another fights Daddy constantly, growing up to be another over-driver, always in battle with someone or something. The third child learns when to confront and when to retreat. She becomes a high achiever.

Yet another three children are born to a hard-working capable father who accomplishes a great deal. One looks at Dad and says: “I can never be as good as he is!” and gives up, going into self-blocking. A second feels competitive: “I’ll do EVEN MORE than he has!” and goes into life-long over-drive, striving always to do one better than Dad did. The third child learns appropriate behavior from Dad and is a competent, high achiever. Etc. Parents do have an influence. But it is not what parents DO that matters so much as how the children interpret and react to what parents do!

These tendencies hold for patterns other than a stellium. E.g., Saturn in the First House and Mars in the Tenth House are one-ten combinations. So are Saturn in Aries and Mars in Capricorn. Strong Mars-Saturn aspects are another form. So is a ruler of the First in the Tenth, or in Capricorn, or in conjunction with Saturn. Or, a ruler of the Tenth in the First, in Aries, conjuncting Mars or a ruler of the First. Etc. If the one-ten combination is important for an individual, the chart will have several forms of it!

There are a number of other possible combinations in the chart. Always we ask ourselves: What is repeated? And, how will these parts of life tend to combine—both positively and negatively! There are some combinations that tend towards the same area of life. One such is the artistic combination. The artistic letters of our alphabet are 2, 7 and 12. We are talking about Venus, Pallas, Juno, Neptune, Second House, Seventh House, Twelfth House, and Taurus, Libra, Pisces. All of these have to do with beauty—a feeling for beauty, being able to create beauty, being able to sense and appreciate beauty. There is often more of a physical tactile orientation with Letter 2. It tends to be involved with concrete kinds of things, such as pottery, sculpture. Music is also possible. Letter Seven has a visual orientation, a detachment, stepping back and looking at what is created. The graphic and visual arts are likely, including painting, design, interior decorating, architecture, fashion, etc. Letter 12, being mutable, seems the most generalized and flexible. But all three can use any mode of artistic expression.

When these letters back one another up, there is often more talent. For example, Neptune or Venus in each others’ houses or signs is one possibility. Or, a stellium in Taurus in the Twelfth or Seventh House; a Libra stellium in the Second, Twelfth (or Seventh). etc. The planets are the strongest statement, always. So, strong Venus, Neptune, Juno, Pallas aspects can show the ability even if not pointed out by house or sign placements.

Letter 5 may or may not be involved. The Fifth House is creative in general, and may be creative in terms of being a super salesperson, a super teacher, etc. The urge is to pour energy into the world, and receive a response, but it does not have to be artistic creation. It can include a marvelous teacher, an inspirational religious leader, etc. But if you get 2, 7, or 12 involved with Letter 5, then you have the artistic creative blend. Response from others is very important. These individuals are more likely to be in the performing arts, in the public eye. If the artistic letters are elsewhere, you may get the artist in the garret, behind the scenes. If Letter 5 is strongly tied in, then they really want to be noticed, and are ego-vulnerable to the opinions of others concerning their art.

So, you can get a major artistic theme in the chart just by having emphasis on 2, 7 and 12, or two out of the three, or one if it is very strong. The more times it is said, the more important it is. Nothing in astrology is all good or all bad. If not used positively, the beauty letters can be a problem. People may be obsessed with appearance (theirs and/or other people’s). Some people will fall into the victim trap of expecting a beautiful, ideal world without having to work for it. Then they may just be very passive, lazy and do little. They may use drugs, fantasy, sleep, etc. to retreat to a more beautiful (imaginary) world. They may over-value comfort, ease and harmony in their life and have difficulty confronting people and life when all is not lovely.

Another theme you can get is the power themes. This is true for all the fixed letters, particularly 5 and 8, plus 10. Letter 11 is particularly power over ideas. Letter 2 is grounded physically: power over things, sensuality. 5, 8 and 10 are all involved with power over people. Or at least they can be. So there is an orientation towards one-up, one-down kinds of situations. There is a tendency to think in terms of who is on top; who is on the bottom; who is winning; who is losing; am I influencing you; are you influencing me? Etc. Those kinds of feelings are very important when you get emphasis on the power letters. And you have seen it in the traditional dictator placement: Saturn or Pluto in the Tenth. Both are combinations of 5, 8 or 10 with one another.

As before, the power letters are stronger when they reinforce one another. E.g., a stellium of Leo in the Tenth, a stellium of Capricorn in the Fifth, etc. Sun in the Fifth, Eighth or Tenth. And so on. Like everything else, we need to ask, “How is this person handling it?” Are they out there having an impact, being a powerful person in a positive way, in terms of business, politics, running the show? Or, are they abusing the power, manipulating and controlling people?

One possibility here is self-blocking because we have letter ten which can go that way. And letter eight can also be very repressive in terms of over-control. So people who are not handling the power aspect of these letters wisely may not be just abusing it in terms of the world, they may be doing a harsh number on themselves. Things like chronic constipation, where they are turning it against themselves on a physical level, are possible.

If 8 and 10 are strong, it can go into this inhibiting, withdrawing, holding in, kind of process. It may be that the problem with the power is what they are doing to themselves, not what they are doing to the outside world. A strong Tenth House does not guarantee they will be running the show and managing the company. They may be into intense self-blocking. Power and control are just as likely to be over-done against the self as against others.

One interesting sidelight: these letters also appear to be prominent in charts like Uri Geller who can apparently bend metal: using mental power to affect and change the physical world. Zip Dobyns has some charts of metal benders like Uri Geller who has Scorpio in the first. They seem to have 8 and 10 emphases, and also often a prominent Vesta, which she associates with single-minded focus. Of course, all of this can also be abused.

There are a variety of mixtures involving partners. The primary partnership letters are 7 and 8. So we can have partners (7 & 8) mixed with parents (4 & 10). This includes Saturn, Moon, Capricorn, Cancer, Fourth House, Tenth House and rulers mixed with Venus, Pallas, Juno, Pluto, Scorpio, Libra, Seventh and Eighth Houses. If this is a major theme, it will be said more than one way in the chart.

One potential here is parents being like partners. A parent may be very equalitarian, sharing the world with his/her children. Or, there may be a parent with whom the child has a continuing tie. The closeness carries on into adulthood. Or, the parent may try to tie the child to him/her through control, manipulation, etc. The child may be overly attached to the parent, or the parent to the child, making other partnerships difficult.

Another side of this is looking for a parental relationship within a partnership. We can look for mommy or daddy as a partner, or try to play mommy or daddy to our partners. I may expect the other to be stable, responsible, and always take care, nurture and support me. Or, I may attract others who expect this of me. People must learn to take turns. If each partner can care for and nurture the other in her/his areas of strength, there is no problem. As long as they can exchange nurturing energy, they maintain the equality by each taking care of the other SOME of the time. If one partner attempts to play “parent” all the time, keeping all the responsibility and all of the power, eventually the other partner will come to resent having none of the power, or the one playing parent will tire of carrying all the load. Relationships in the Seventh and Eighth are meant to be shared.

Parent/partner mixtures also mean that parents are role models for the partnership. The early parental relationship is likely to be reworked, re-experienced in later partnerships. Whatever one did not work out with parents, will be faced again with partners. This includes re-doing positive as well as negative issues. We may find ourselves saying to a partner: “You’re just like my mother!” or “You act exactly like my father!” The tone of voice may be delighted or furious. The point is, we unconsciously attract partners who will elicit in us the same feelings we had with our parents. Even if our partners do not act exactly as our parents did, we will tend to react to them as we did to our parents. We will face the same issues until we master them. With Letter 4, the issue revolves around nurturance, dependency, unconditional love and security. With Letter 10, issues include responsibility, authority, power, work and control.

The perfect partner mixtures are 9 and 12 mixed with 7 and 8. 9 and 12 are where we look for God, perfection, our ultimate dream, our highest value. One option is never settling down to a partnership, because no human being is perfect enough. Searching and searching, and never being satisfied is a bit more likely with Letter 9, because 9 is basically a freedom letter. On a conscious level, we can say, “No one is good enough.” On an unconscious level, we are glorying in our freedom. But both 9 and 12 can search forever, and never be satisfied.

With Letter 12, the rose colored glasses tendency is slightly more likely, although Letter 9 can also do it. A relationship seems perfect, ideal, our dream-come-true. Six months later, we wake up to reality and see how ugly our “perfect” relationship is. The partner may be idealized, put on a pedestal. Then, we wake up disillusioned, disappointed, and go search for a new idol. We seek Prince or Princess Charming, meeting one disappointment after another. Some people will literally “marry God” with this combination—going into the Church, because no human being measures up.

Another variation is the savior looking for a victim. If there is an emphasis on earth and water, the native may want to be the responsible one. So, they search for partners they can save: alcoholics, drug addicts, etc. In such cases, they play healer/helper in the relationship: a Pygmalion and Galatea script. Such relationships tend not to last. Often the “savior” gets tired of doing all the work. Or, the “victim” becomes resentful of his/her powerless position. The victim may retaliate by leaving, having an affair, or becoming even more of a victim—even harder to save. The problem here, as with parent/partner mixtures, is that equality may be lost.

Nine and twelve are the idealistic letters. With them, we have a vision of perfection and a better world. People may be idealistic, spiritual, artistic, religious. If partners share that idealistic energy, and keep a hold on reality, it does not have to be a problem. They can literally have a marriage “made in heaven.” Each values the other and wants the best, the most beautiful relationship possible. They work to create an ideal partnership, but neither expects the other to be perfect, or to provide a smooth, ideal love alone. Each contributes to the vision.

Another theme is the critical letters mixed with partners. Letters 6 and 10 are looking for the flaws and blemishes. They are into picking things apart, and putting them back together in a more productive way. Here we have efficiency experts. If these are mixed with partnership letters, there is a tendency to look at all the flaws in the partnership. Or, to pick partners who do this. There can be a mutual criticism society—very uncomfortable. People who are always criticizing others are generally self-critical and insecure, anyway.

On a positive level, people with these combinations can be super pragmatists: willing to work at their relationships. They are willing to see what is really there and hang in and struggle with it. They want relationships that last, and are willing to work hard to make them endure.

The danger is turning love relationships into a job: becoming critical judgmental of the relationship, the partner, or the self. Or, the job may be used as an escape from problems in the relationship. Responsibility and power need to be shared. Both partners need to use their practicality and competence. If one leans too much on the other for strength, the imbalance will eventually lead to stress, criticism, and/or closing off. Love may get tied to performance. Both partners need to remember they don’t have to DO anything to be loved. It is enough to BE.

By themselves 9 and 12 mixed with partnership are more likely to feel it is truly beautiful, ideal, or lovely. If the perfectionistic letters are mixed in with the critical letters, the consciousness of the flaws will also be there. There is a strong danger of: “It should be perfect, and look at everything that is wrong!” The critical letters alone may be super pragmatic and practical. So, in a sense, either the critical letters alone or the perfectionistic letters alone are often easier to handle than a combination of the two. However, if blended, this combination gives the vision of what can be, and the practicality and willingness to make it happen in reality!

One can also mix 9 and 12 with children, particularly Letter 5, also Letter 4. The native may see children as perfect, an ultimate dream. Some people will say, “Children are my all-in-all, so I’m having lots of them!” Another may say, “I only want perfect children to bring into a perfect world, raised perfectly, so I’ll have none.” People may idolize and idealize their children, spoiling them, wanting them to have an ideal, easy existence. They may expect perfection from their kids, or attract children who expect/demand perfection from them. Etc. Both parties need to allow one another to be human. (We can play savior/ victim with children as well as with partner!) If the idealism, healing/helping, artistic energy is done by both parties in a positive way, it is less likely to express in negative channels.

Mixing perfectionistic letters with Letter l can be: “I should be perfect. My entire personality should be perfect.” Some people may feel, with this combination, “I am perfect.” This is a bit more likely with Letter 9 than Letter 12, due to the natural fire confidence of Letter 9. Either 9 or 12 mixed with 1 may feel, “The world should do for me, since I am so lovely, charming, wonderful, etc.” Or, “I should do everything right, never make a mistake, have it all together, etc.” Letter 9 is more likely to expect an intellectual perfection—having all the right answers, understanding everything. Letter 12 tends to want emotional perfection, to be spiritual, and loving, and never hurt anyone, save the whole world!

In brief, wherever 9 and 12 are involved in our charts, we are likely to manifest perfectionism. Putting 9 and 12 with 6 and 10 is a “perfect job” combination. I’d wager many astrologers have 9 or 12 involved with work. Many of us are professional saviors, helpers, healers. That is one positive way to handle this combination: channel the drive for perfection into a career that makes the world a better, or more beautiful place. This combination can also be the job hopper—the person who is never satisfied in the work. S/he keeps on looking for the perfect job, with just the right pay, just the right hours, etc.

Another issue besides perfectionism is faith. 9 and 12 have to do with our faith, our sense of purpose, and ultimate meaning in life. People who have a strong Letter 9 or 12 emphasis are very concerned with the question of meaning, purpose, direction. If they do not develop a sense of faith, they confront a lot of anxiety, insecurity. People need two kinds of faith: faith in themselves and faith in others, including a Higher Power. Faith may be over-done in the self: “I can do anything. I am so witty and charming, I can talk myself into and out of any situation.” But faith in the self, if under-done shows in lack of confidence, low self-esteem, not believing enough in one’s self to try. However, we need faith beyond ourselves. If we lack faith in others, the tendency is to carry too much of the load. One must be able to let others do their part. Often, with strong Letters 6 and 10, especially, people feel: “If you want it done right, do it yourself.” The world obliges by giving them more and more to do. They get increasingly burdened. So faith includes trusting in God (the Universe, whatever) and other people to take over and do their share after we have done our part.

Another combination is the obsessive-compulsive letters. These are 6, 8 and 10. Here we get the people who want to know all the details, want everything in its place. They yearn for total order, filing cabinets, organizational kinds of bureaucratic things. Everything is so organized and systematized, and there is not a speck of dust around.

There is a place for obsessive-compulsive energy in the world. Anyone who wants to make it through graduate school needs some of this energy. There are times in life when being organized and thorough is important. The danger here is that people will get into seeing only the pieces and forget the whole. They can lose perspective.

The 6, 8, 10 combinations tend to be very effective and efficient. People are often extremely productive. Since this combination also includes the two critical letters, flaw-finding may also be an issue here. If handled wisely, in appropriate areas, this careful, exact energy can be very useful.

Another way of looking at the chart is in terms of a temporal emphasis. Clearly, all of the twelve sides of life operate in the past, present, and future, but some have more of an emphasis one place or another. Some seem very much NOW letters: what is going on right now? How do I feel? They are focused in everyday reality around us. These include Letters 1, 2, 3, 6, and 7. They are all fairly present-oriented.

By contrast, all three water letters (4, 8, 12) have a past orientation. They assimilate, go back to, try to understand the past. Letter 10 also has to do with Karma, consequences of past actions. We get what we have earned (positive or negative). Letter 12 seems to be dual. It has a past orientation, like all water, sentimental, remembering, etc. But Letter 12 is also strongly visionary, dreaming of a future utopia. I feel the glyph of the two fishes swimming in opposite directions (pulling towards the past, and towards the future) is perfect for Letter 12.

Letter 5, 9 and 11 all have a future thrust. Both 5 and 9 are creative, risk-taking, pushing towards doing more, going beyond what has been done, or known, or understood previously. The Fifth House may not be strongly manifested until after puberty: when the individual is capable of procreation. It often seems people get more into their Fifth, Ninth, and Eleventh Houses as they grow older. They may express little of their placement there when young.

One can look for emphases here. Is this person strongly past-oriented? Are they a visionary type? Etc. Many people will be fairly balanced, but some will have strong statements one way or another. One can also consider this in chart comparisons. E.g. Put a strongly past-rooted person with a future-visionary person. The “past” person feels hurt when the “future” person forgets “their” song and their anniversary. The future person is upset when the “past” person shows no interest in dreams and visions of ten years hence, or a very progressive invention. Etc.

We can also look at a chart in terms of communication styles. Mercury or Letter Three combined with Letter 1 or 8 is the aggressive verbal style. Words may be used as weapons. There is often a quick mind, and a quick tongue. Sarcasm, irony, and biting speech are possible. Humor may be at the expense of others around them. Impulsive speech is possible, although more likely with Letter 1 than Letter 8 The quick mind and tongue can be very useful in debates and extemporaneous speaking.

The 3/9 combination can be the foot-in-mouth disease: a person with no tact or diplomacy. They blurt out “the truth” and don’t understand when other people’s feelings are hurt. Again, the mind and tongue are often quick. The may talk too much (verbal diarrhea). The may emphasize truth too much, and need to learn compassion. (If other parts of the chart slow down the fiery quickness, the individual may just manifest perfectionism: wanting to say it “just right.”)

The 3/5 combination is again fire mixed with communication, which often speeds it up. These individuals are ego-involved with their minds and communicative abilities. They want to be proud of what they know and can say. They may go into “showing off” verbally. They may be prone to exaggeration, and tall tales. Fish stories tend to grow, because these people want it to be dramatic and majestic.

An interesting confrontation is to watch a strong 3/5 with a strong 3/10 person. The Mercury/Saturn demands precision, exactitude, and relevance. Mercury (Letter 3) mixed with Earth (Saturn, Vesta, Ceres, Virgo, Capricorn, etc.) demands relevance, meaningfulness. “If it isn’t important and significant, don’t say anything!” Concreteness is valued. Accuracy is demanded. The flights of fancy which sometimes appeal to a Mercury/Sun person would bring out all the critical potential of a Mercury/Saturn.

The more Letter Three is mixed with water and earth, the more reticence is likely. People will value security and safety. They don’t want to be hurt, or hurt others with words. They want words to be useful and serve a purpose. The more fire and air, the more people will talk for the pleasure of the words, for the fun of it. Fire and air are highly expressive, and often feed each other to an excess of extraversion.

The 1/9 combination can be the professional missionary. Here, the search for the truth, can come out as “I have the truth. It is the ONLY truth. My way is the only way.” Anita Bryant and Madelyn O’Hare are two examples. (This is a variation on the 1/9 “I should be—or already am—perfect. Here, the missionaries believe they HAVE arrived. They know what the answers are!) If handled positively, this can be an identification with the truth. People may be perpetual seekers and students, always wanting to learn more, to understand more fully. This tends to be a very restless combination, always seeking to go further.

Another way of looking at a chart is the degree of tactile orientation. 2 and 4 are very touch-oriented. They seek physical sensations and contact. 6 and 10 can be aloof and cool. All air (3, 7, 11—7 less so) can also be detached and intellectual, non-physical. Studies have shown how important touch is to EVERYONE. It is a basic human need, but we all grow up in families and environments where needs may be trained in other directions.

Particularly with children, we can see a need for contact, and make provisions for that in the upbringing. Here, again, it is how the child reacts to parenting that is important. Some children may prefer a lot of physical affection and touching. Others prefer a more detached, intellectual approach. If we understand the individual, we can try to best meet his/her unique needs.

When one has both strong 4 and 2 plus 6 and 10 or a lot of air in a chart, there may be ambivalence. The person often has a strong sensual streak, but may not be sure when or how to express it. They may be too dependent on the physical (2 and 4) or too dependent on the mental (air). Being able to do both, in balance, is important. With 6 and 10 involved, there is often a puritanical streak: “That’s not nice,” or “I don’t deserve to enjoy that.” Etc. The person may have to get past the critical tendencies of 6 and 10 in order to enjoy the physical pleasures of 2 and 4.

Letter 8 is also often ambivalent in this area. Letter 8 can be extremely sensual, sexual, and indulgent where physical gratification is involved. It can go to extremes and abuses in the physical arena. However, Letter 8 also yearns for self-control, and is prone to over- doing this self-control, in terms of wearing a hair shirt and falling into highly ascetic ways. Thus, one can have either extreme with Letter 8: incredible indulgence or amazing self-denial.

Another useful division we find in astrology is into the Personal, Interpersonal, and Transpersonal (or universal) spheres of life. The first three signs, houses, and rulers thereof are very personally oriented. “What do I want; what do I enjoy. The emphasis and focus is on the self. Letter 4 can be personal or interpersonal. If into the dependency (baby) side of Letter 4, the person thinks only of his/her own needs, security. If into nurturing with Letter 4, the person is oriented towards establishing close, caring relationships with others.

Letters 5, 7, 8 (and 4) are interpersonal. Here is a one-to-one orientation. The focus is on living, loving, sharing together. Adult relationships are a focus. We learn to relate to others. Letter 6 fits in here in terms of learning to work with others, but lacks the warmth and desire for emotional closeness that is a focus with the others.

Letters 9, 10, 11, and 12 are the transpersonal or universal ones. Here, we relate to the wider world, to the big scene, to society as a whole. Hopefully, people have a balance. We have enough of the personal emphasis to know what we want and go after it. We are able to maintain close relationships and share with other adults. We are concerned with broader issues and societal questions as well.

If almost everything is concentrated on the first three letters, the individual may be intensely self-centered and selfish. They may be very closed-in and self-absorbed. If too much is tied into the interpersonal sphere, other people may be too important. They may be over valued. The person may be involved in things that gratify their relationship need but are not good for themselves or for society in long-range terms. People too transpersonally oriented may just be distant or detached in human terms. They could even seem callous or cool; they are not interested in relating to people on an intimate level, merely as pawns in a wider picture. As with most of life, and the horoscope, we want a balance—all sides.

Another key to themes is element and quality balance in a chart. Here, as elsewhere, one must consider planets and houses as well as occupied signs. It appalls me to hear astrologers talk of a chart as having “no fire” when the First, Fifth and Ninth Houses are loaded. Or, when Sun, Jupiter, Mars are on angles, and/or forming strong aspects to one another. That is fire!

Many charts are relatively balanced in terms of the elements. But some will show over or under emphasis. We have only to think of the strengths and weaknesses of each element. Is there too much fire? Fire’s strength is confidence, enthusiasm, action. So potential dangers with an excess include: rashness, impulsivity, self-centeredness, overweening ambition. Too little fire? There may be timidity, passivity, lack of energy. Too much earth? The person may be overly practical, cold and rational. They may be too concrete in their approach to life—too narrow a focus. Too little earth? Impracticality is a danger. So is a lack of solid accomplishments. The individual may be too caught up in abstractions—too wide a focus.

Is there too much air? People may rationalize and intellectualize everything. They may watch the world go by, but not feel or act with it. Too little air? People may lack the necessary detachment and objectivity. They may have difficulties handling abstractions. Too much water? Such an individual may be too sensitive, empathic, vulnerable. S/he may hold too much inside. Too little water? People may lack sufficient empathy, compassion, sense of connection to all of Life.

Some charts will have two out of four elements strongly emphasized. Finding the Person in the Horoscope by Zip Dobyns covers these options. One need only think of the physical attributes of each to get a good image of these element combinations. Fire and earth make molten lava. (Don’t get in the way!) Fire and water make steam (which can scald you.) Fire and air make hot air. (Fun, but always floating off to a new experience.) Earth and air make dust (They are practical and logical but dry and boring.) Earth and water make mud (responsible, but overly serious). Air and water make mist, fog or vapor (hard to see and hard to grasp: they stay in the head.)

Similarly if a chart emphasizes three out of the four elements, we ask ourselves: “What are the strengths of these three elements, and what are potential problems if they are over-used?” What might be a difficulty from the weaker, fourth element? What qualities are needed from it to balance the other three? Etc.

Qualities are also covered in Dr. Dobyns’ book. The basic interrelationship of the qualities she calls a “dilemma.” Each of us has these three dilemmas (cardinal, fixed, mutable) in our lives and horoscopes (in different strengths and different combinations.) A dilemma is an inner conflict we all must cope with. It indicates two (or more) sides of life that are difficult to do together. One side of our nature wants to do this; another side wants to do that. We cannot do both together, at least not to their fullest extent.

The solution to a dilemma is to do each part in moderation, or to do them at different times, in different places. A classic example is the “Freedom-Closeness Dilemma.” This is shown strongly in the 1-4 corner of the Cardinal Dilemma: First House square Fourth House; Aries square Cancer; Mars versus Moon, etc. Other forms include conflicts between rulers of Letter 1 and Letter 4 in any form. A freedom-closeness ambivalence also shows in Letter 1 opposite Letter 7; 1 quincunx 8; 9 quincunx 4; 11 quincunx 4 and 11 square 8.

The freedom urge is to do our own thing, hang loose, not be tied down. The closeness urge is to be involved, have a close, emotional relationship, to need and be needed. It is difficult to be free and close simultaneously.

In dealing with our dilemmas, we may use (and misuse) several psychological defense mechanisms. One of these is repression, which simply means burying something in the unconscious. This is fine as a temporary measure, to gain time and strength to face what we are burying. But it is not a permanent solution.

If we try not to face it, our unconscious keeps throwing it back at us. We draw people and events into our lives that will force us to face that unacknowledged side of our own nature. E.g., we repress our need for closeness and “all of a sudden” are left with the care of an aged parent, or get tied to a possessive partner, or are heavily tied down by responsibilities to our children, etc. Consciously, we feel hemmed in by life. Unconsciously, we are satisfying our repressed need for closeness.

Anything repressed too long can lead to illness. If we look at the parts of the body involved, we can make good educated guesses about the energy being repressed that needs to be brought into the open and expressed. (Energy does not disappear. If we block its expression externally, we merely turn it inside against ourselves.) E.g. Blocked anger is often not dealing with our freedom needs (Letter One) and can lead to headaches, sinus colds, minor cuts, burns, accidents. We want to be fishing instead of sawing, and cut ourselves with the saw. We want to be reading instead of cooking, and burn ourselves on the stove. .... Etc.

Anything connected to water (by sign, house, planet) may be repressed. So we take an extra look and make sure that we have a place to use that energy positively in our lives. We stay in touch with the inner wisdom and flow of our organism, and don’t block it.

Another defense is projection. Projection is the process whereby we attract other people to express qualities we have not yet faced within ourselves. These qualities may be positive (and often are!) as well as negative. The initial urge of this defense is learning. By seeing someone else manifest what we do not allow in ourselves, we can learn to be comfortable with that energy. Unfortunately, that often does not happen.

Projection tends to generate extremes. The more we deny a side of ourselves, the more we attract an over-dose of that energy in others. We dislike the over-dose, so deny the energy in us even more, leading to a stronger projection with the next person. It can become a vicious circle.

One example of projection can be seen in people who deny their own needs for space, freedom and independence. They become attracted to “free souls.” Their partners never hang around for long; they will not make commitments. The partners are living out all the freedom needs which the people will not admit to having. The more they deny and project their own need for space, the more they will find space forced upon them by the other party, the situation, etc.

If we suspect projection is going on, we need to break the circle. We do this by expressing some of the energy we have been denying. We do NOT become just like the other person. Odds are that they are OVER doing the energy. But we use some of the energy in a positive, fulfilling way. As we do more, they can do less. We both move towards the middle and can start to balance the relationships.

In many ways, a horoscope can be viewed as a map of our projections. We see, through our chart, those people who teach us about a given side of life. If we do not learn it from them, we may project that ability. We see it as “out there,” but not “in here” and fall prey to the extremes mentioned. The houses in the horoscope show most strongly areas where we meet ourselves (and may project). E.g., In the Seventh and Eighth, we may project into partners: “My wife is like that!” “My husband is that way, but not me!” The more we deny the quality (be it freedom, competence, comfort, casualness, fun, etc.) in ourselves, the more we encourage our partner to OVER do that quality! We can also project into children (Fifth House), parents (Fourth and Tenth Houses), siblings (Third House), etc.

Take a good look at your relationships! Is there a pattern? If you find yourself attracting the same kinds of partners, or friends, etc., there is a message there. Learn to do what they are doing for you. And if they are over-doing and abusing the energy, learn to express it positively!

The other defense mechanism which can be misused is displacement. This is much as it sounds: dis- or MIS-placing something from where it normally operates. An example is Hitler who had earth in air houses (e.g. Taurus in the Seventh). He displaced earth’s “manipulation and control” energy to “other people” (Seventh House) rather than using it on things, which are the appropriate arena for earth energy. Basically, displacement is just doing what can be a “right” or appropriate action in a “wrong (inappropriate) time or place. The challenge is merely to find the appropriate time and place. Similarly, there are times to be free and times to be close. If we are always free when others want to be close, and close when others want to be free, we are doing an awful lot of displacement. Etc.

The Cardinal Dilemma faces most strongly freedom versus closeness and dominance versus dependency issues, though these can appear in other forms as well. Strongly cardinal people appear to learn through events. Consciously or unconsciously, they make sure they are always active. They attract events from the world. I call them crisis-oriented people. Hopefully, they grow and evolve through these events. They are learning to balance free, independent action, with closeness including home and family, with an equalitarian, sharing relationship, and with a career and success in the world.

Fixed people are NOT unchanging. They are merely resistant to OUTSIDE influences. They change on their own terms, not on anyone else’s. Power is an issue. Sensuality and shared resources may be a battleground. They are learning to enjoy the physical world without over-indulging; to control themselves without becoming ascetic. They are learning their place in the universe: their right to power in proportion to the rights of others. They are learning to balance a need for stability and security with a need for risk and change.

Mutable people want to know everything about everything and everyone. Their insatiable curiosity and multiple interests and talents may lead to a lack of focus. Perfectionism is often a challenge. The issue of faith in themselves and something Higher is important. They may be torn between quantity knowing versus quality accomplishing. Etc.

All of these dilemmas are covered in Finding the Person. Each highlights a part of our inner nature: showing two or more contradictory parts of life. We each make our own resolution. We may deny, repress and get sick. We may project and meet more and more extremes in the world. We may displace and act inappropriately. Or, we can learn the delicate balancing act of finding an appropriate, healthy, satisfying time and place for each part of our psyche and horoscope. Life is incredibly rich and complex. The horoscope mirrors this with its millions of different combinations. Yet within that vastness of details are certain basic human needs, patterns, and tendencies. The Zip Code helps us to recognize the basic human drives and inner contradictions we all share. Because we are all individuals, each of us must work out our own personal, unique solutions. The horoscope can help us to see the pattern and potential of the whole. It is up to us to make (and re-make each day) the balance appropriate for us personally. As we incorporate more of what we are and can be, we live out fuller expression of all parts of our horoscopes—and lead richer, more satisfying (and more complicated) lives. We lose our simple answers, our blacks and whites. We gain a limitless spectrum of colors and experiences.

Here’s to a richer, fuller life!

Following is a short summary of most of the patterns discussed, with a few additional ones, which I think are self- explanatory. (E.g., We find mechanical skills often with strong contacts between Mercury, Mars, and Uranus—Letters 3, 6, 11 and 1.)

INFLUENCE OF HOUSES

The four Angular houses I, IV, VII, X, come first in importance in
a horoscope ; indeed they are so much the essential part of the map that
the other houses, as previously remarked, look like little more than subdivisions of these four. The influence of the angles is similar to that of
the cardinal signs; they are concerned with making manifest and concrete,
with bringing out into the open, unveiling and manifesting whatever may
be latent in the personality and everything that is denoted by the signs
and planets connected with the angles.
The four houses that are classed as angles are not all on an equality
in this respect, however. We have already seen that the day half of the
map, including the ascendant, has to do with bringing out of latency into
manifestation; and that the houses below the earth tend to veil, preserve,
protect, bide, and retain in latency. But the secrecy and reservation
surrounding the lower houses is only relative, not absolute, because they
are all concerned with various activities of life ; their quiescence is not
that of total unconsciousness. Generally speaking each house in the
night half of the map reflects its opposite in the day half, so that the
two become complementary; the first and the seventh, the second and
the eighth, the third and the ninth, and so on.
Of the angles, the ascendant and mid-heaven are the most potent and
active, and it is scarcely an exaggeration to say that everything signified
by planets in those houses must inevitably be expressed in some way and
THE HOUSES AND THEIR IMPORTANCE
cannot be avoided. Hence planets in these two angles denote what may
be called a typical life from the astrological point of view, that is a life
that neither greatly exceeds the average through unusual will-power or
rapidly maturing genius, nor falls short of it in any remarkable degree
through weakness or inexperience. There are some cases in which an
unusual fate is to be experienced rapidly and the life is filled with incident
to an abnormal extent, but these we pass by for the time, and the above
generalisation refers to ordinary persons.
The seventh house is nearly as open, prominent, and inevitable as
the first and tenth, although to a less extent; and whereas Self, in some
sense, dominates both the latter houses, the experiences of the seventh
come through Others. It may be said to be between latency and
activity, and the same is true m a much greater degree of the fourth
house, relating as it does to such matters as home, domesticity, parentage,
old age, seclusion; nevertheless they both usually bring forth into
activity that which they denote.
The first house is quite personal in its influence and depends upon
the strength of the Individuality behind it to give expression to its powers.
Self, in either the restricted or the enlarged sense, is dominant here. The
same is true of the tenth house, but here a wider field is provided for the
utilisation of the talents of the Self. The seventh is connected more with
experiences related to the Not-self, taken in the sense of Others; friends,
partners, associates, all whose interests are blended with those of the
native, whether m love or hate, help or rivalry ; and experiences gained
through this angle come quite as much through actions started by Others
as through those begun by Self. The fourth house may be said in a
sense to be neither personal nor individual, for here separation tends to be
lost or obscured; m the young or weak soul because of the lack of
strength to break through the bonds, and in stronger souls through
voluntary submission to the needs of others.
These four angles are directly connected with the physical and
external world, and represent outgoing activities? originating in the Self
but affecting the Not-self very directly. They generally show the nature
of things that must be openly expressed, and therefore denote the fame,
reputation, public position, and general activities more clearly and
definitely than any of the other houses.
The Succedent houses, II» V, VIII, XI, are connected with desire»

feeling, emotion, and with the guna tamas. They are not so open,
expressive, and full of action as the angles ; they are less on the surface
and also very much less changeful. Experiences and characteristics
based upon planets in these houses tend to continue unchanged or with
the minimum of alteration for long periods, sometimes all through the life.
Faults of character that arise out of planets here are far harder to overcome than in the case of the angles, and the good qualities are never lost.
Evil aspects to the hyleg from these houses have more serious effects
upon health, and cause diseases that are long lasting and intractable; but
good aspects give great power to resist disease.
The second and fifth houses are rather more conservative and their
effects are somewhat less open than are the eighth and eleventh, these
two latter showing desire more externalised in action.
The Cadent houses, III, VI, IX, XII, are mental and show how
thought guides and directs both action and desire. Events that are
denoted by these houses taken alone are based upon and originate in
cognition rather than feeling or action. The state of the native's mind is
concerned here, the workings of his thought, and his power of mental
response. These houses are somewhat lacking in initiative and are at their
best when working under a superior or when obeying the will of another,
although the natives do not always realise this and are sometime
How To Interpret Planets On House Cusps
by Robert Wilkinson

Over the years I've had many ask me how a planet works when it's in two different houses depending on which house division system is used. Today we take a look at how a planet in a cusp zone works.

This subject deals with situations where a planet could be in either the second or third house depending on whether we are using Placidus, Porphyry, Koch, Equal, or some other way of dividing the circle into 12 parts. In other words, if our Uranus is in the 5th house using one system and in the 6th using another, what does this mean?

Actually this is a very common occurrence, due to intercepted signs and a wide divergence in the size of houses based in where we were born. Astrologers will note that the sizes of the quadrants skews fairly widely the further we are from the equator. Therefore there are many on Earth who have houses that diverge from the ideal width of 28-32 degrees.

This creates situations where our Sun may be in the 8th according to one house system, but may be in the 9th using another. The question of how a planet functions when it could be in one or another house can be easily resolved by examining what creates the phenomenon so that we can understand possible meanings when we see this in a birth chart.

First, let's examine the different meanings of planets, houses, and cusps. The planets symbolize our inner functions, or "lights," of personality, from the innermost sensitivities and feelings (the Moon) to the outermost transpersonal transformative forces beyond our control (Pluto). The houses are the areas of our experience in the outer world, and cusps (where a house begins and where it ends) are the edges of where the houses touch each other.

So how do we interpret the possible meanings of when a planet falls on the cusp of a house? Furthermore, how do we interpret the planetary influence when the cusps change degrees due to different house systems in use, shifting the planet from one house to the adjacent house?

One of the first things I learned is that only the Ascendant-Descendant axis and the Midheaven-Nadir axis are set by the time of birth. All other house cusps are determined by whether we use a space-based system of dividing quadrants, a time-based system of division, or a space-time system of division. (A complete exploration of all possible house division systems is way outside the scope of this article, and would bore most readers.)

Depending on which system(s) we use, we'll get a variety of points that mark the cusps of the houses. Some are fairly close to each other, while some systems produce different signs on different houses than other systems (though never more than one sign apart except in very high latitudes.) We all have all the signs in our chart somewhere, and if the cusps involve the very early or very late degrees of a sign, at least two houses usually will have two different signs on their cusps. (As noted, it could have three possible signs on its cusp if we're born in extreme North or South latitude.)

To offer an example: I have Leo rising with either late Virgo or early Libra on the 3rd house, late Pisces or early Aries on the 9th, depending on which house division system I use. Many times in charts I've read I've seen cusp spans as wide as 20 degrees involving two signs, even wider in extreme latitudes. You can see how this could set up some dilemmas in how to interpret what rules the house, and how to sort through the various influences of different planets straddling two houses.

Why is knowing what house(s) a planet affects important? Well, besides showing us our areas of self-realization through various experiences associated with those houses, it can also help us understand why we have certain major lessons to learn from one area and not another.

If a planet is solidly in one house, then it shows us our inner "light" lessons associated with events connected with that house. A planet on a cusp area is involved in our lessons in both houses rather than just one, since then it's triggered as either an entry or exit energy.

But if it occupies a degree that puts it in one house in one system and an adjacent house in another system, then that planetary function involves how those adjacent houses affect each other. Rather than being in one or the other, it's actually in both simultaneously.

In my own chart, when I first computed it I found that if I used the Placidus house system, my Saturn is in the 3rd house. But if I use other systems, such as Porphyry or Equal, it is in the 2nd house. That led me to the question, which house is my Saturn actually in?

When I read the texts, it seemed as though I have elements in my life of both positions. I can definitely identify with Saturn in the 2nd, as well as Saturn in the 3rd. So I began to explore the deeper meaning of the houses, and came up with a system that has worked for me for many years, and satisfies most of my clients who wonder why certain things are so apparently contradictory in their lives, or why they have major life experiences that are similar but came about through different arenas in their life activities.

Simply put, when I look at charts, I use two (or at times even three) systems of house division at the same time. This gives me a span of degrees between houses, a zone where the two houses touch each other and overlap to an extent, just as the areas of our lives often overlap somewhat. The span is defined by the gap between the two systems yielding the widest result.

Thus the zone between my 2nd and 3rd houses extends between 28 Virgo (Placidus) to 11 Libra (Equal). Anything that transits that zone exerts an influence in both houses, and blends those two areas of my life. Since that is true for my 2nd and 3rd houses, it is also true that the zone between my 8th and 9th houses covers the area between 28 Pisces and 11 Aries. There are other zones between houses, some wider, some narrower, depending on many variables.

When a planet falls in the zone where two houses overlap, that planetary function learns in both areas and has an impact in both areas. It is no longer simply that we have a part of us that is identified with one area more than others; we have to learn how those areas interrelate through the lessons and qualities of that planet.

To offer a musical analogy, the frets on a guitar neck are unnecessary to play the instrument. A note is a note, However, there are zones where by sliding up or down the string you move into areas showing the subtle differences between the whole notes.

As we move from A through A-sharp into B-flat and B we find both obvious and subtle distinctions, So it is as we move from 2nd house experiences through where the 2nd and 3rd influence each other into our 3rd house experiences.

Taking this approach makes apparent contradictions in the planetary birth positions as well as the progressions and transits more easy to understand. It can also help us understand why, after spending many years in one of our houses, a slow-moving planet begins to affect the neighboring area while still exerting an influence in the old area, and over time seems to link those parts of our lives together in a set of lessons.

Hi Robert, thank you for this articles and all your others. I came to here from intercepted signs. I have aquarius on the ascendant and pieces intercepted in the first house (so leo on the descendant and virgo intercepted in the 7th house. Then depending on the system I have capricorn on 11th and 12th house cusps (and about 5 planets in capricorn including my sun) and cancer on 5th and 6th house cusps. Or Aquarius on 12th and 1st house cusps and Leo on 6th and 7th. I was wondering if you have any insights into this?

Thank you so much

Placidus: Venus 8/9 conjunct current full moon sun.

I travel when I am uncomfortable and return to a more comfortable place. No matter how far I travel or how many times I travel I continue to arrive at the same destiny. It must be home.

Hi Robert, Can you apply this musical logic to the sabian symbol degree's too?

Hi all - I'm still on the road and will try to compose something when I have time.

A very fine article, Robert, and my experience with clients confirms what you're saying about a planet on the cusp affecting both houses. For example, a woman with the Moon on the cusp of the 11th-12th might find that she has many women friends AND that many of these friendships were with women coworkers or colleagues. Regards, Donna Cunningham

Hi Christine - You're most welcome. What you want is beyond my ability to do in any depth in this comment stream. That said, imagine you have an Aquarian self image to express, but with buried Pisces subtones. You would be naturally attracted to Leo, but only those with a strong Virgo subtone. Aquarius always has Capricorn as its 12th sign, regardless of other personal factors. With a stellium crossing the 11/12 sectors, your friends could be a source of sorrow or rewards, and clearly you're here to do some form of group work, both publicly and privately. When you have the same sign on two consecutive houses, they are ruled by the same energies, where the preceding house sets the tone for the subsequent house. When two consecutive houses both have the same sign on the cusp, it also indicates a very narrow span of experience in those houses, with a very wide experience in the houses that have intercepted signs.

Hi caliban - Venus on the cusp of the 8/9 shows your desires will lead you to truths, your losses will show you a greater Venusian adventure, and through valuing what others value, you will be able to harmonize their mind.

Hi Aquarlis Virmoon - Yes, in the sense that each symbol is the preparation for the next, or the result of the previous one. Studying the "formulas" offered by Dr. Jones in the original work will make this clearer. Plus in any five fold sequences, there is 1) the initial pulse, 2) the counter/contrasting pulse, 3) the synthesis of the first two, 4) the technique developed out of the synthesized understanding, and 5) the fulfillment of the sequence. I also feel the musical analogy applies very nicely to the aspects.

Hi Donna Cunningham - Thanks for checking in and confirming what is put forth here. For someone with Moon bridging 11/12, I would say to make their friends their family, and watch out for family members creating sorrow or inner turmoil due to karmic connections. While it could show continuity of Soul connect with family members, it could also show the need to find closure rituals to take care of security needs.

According to astrometeorology, the 6th house is associated with weather in some ways. Astrometeorology is the study of the influence of the planets and stars on the Earth’s climate and weather patterns. The 6th house, which is ruled by Virgo and Mercury, is related to health, service, work, and daily routines12. However, it also has a connection to the natural environment and the seasons, especially the harvest season. The 6th house can indicate the quality of the crops, the health of the animals, and the availability of food and resources. The 6th house can also show how we adapt to changing weather conditions and how we cope with illnesses or disasters that may affect our well-being.

Some astrologers use the 6th house to predict the weather for a specific location or time period. They look at the sign on the cusp of the 6th house, the planets in the 6th house, and the aspects to the 6th house ruler. For example, if the 6th house cusp is in a fire sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), it may indicate hot, dry, or sunny weather. If the 6th house cusp is in an earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), it may indicate cold, wet, or cloudy weather. If the 6th house cusp is in an air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius), it may indicate windy, variable, or stormy weather. If the 6th house cusp is in a water sign (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces), it may indicate humid, foggy, or rainy weather.

The planets in the 6th house can also modify the weather prediction. For example, if Mars is in the 6th house, it may indicate heat waves, fires, or droughts. If Saturn is in the 6th house, it may indicate cold snaps, frosts, or snowstorms. If Jupiter is in the 6th house, it may indicate mild and pleasant weather. If Uranus is in the 6th house, it may indicate sudden and unexpected changes in weather. If Neptune is in the 6th house, it may indicate floods, hurricanes, or tsunamis. If Pluto is in the 6th house, it may indicate volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, or landslides.

The aspects to the 6th house ruler can also affect the weather prediction. For example, if the 6th house ruler is trine or sextile to another planet, it may indicate favorable and harmonious weather conditions. If the 6th house ruler is square or opposite to another planet, it may indicate challenging and turbulent weather conditions. If the 6th house ruler is conjunct another planet, it may indicate intense and powerful weather events.

Of course, astrometeorology is not an exact science and there are many factors that can influence the weather besides astrology. However, some people find it interesting and useful to observe how the movements of the
