Lunar eclipse at the Libra New Moon, October 2. The Libra New Moon kicks off Libra season with a bang, and the fact that it is eclipsed by the Aries Sun at the South Node of the past suggests that we may see some fireworks. A watery grand trine at the time of the New Moon will help offer emotional support and strength as we begin a new lunar cycle, this time in learning to balance our need for partnership and beauty.

As humans we are always refreshing ourselves. Each day is a new beginning. We celebrate the New Year as a time to set new intentions. But at the New Moon each month, the power of initiation is strong and offers an opportunity for a true fresh start.
I wrote about the details of this eclipse in this week’s forecast which you would have received on Sunday or can read here.
Jupiter turns retrograde October 9. Jupiter is stationary for much of the month and will only travel one degree after turning retrograde. This may feel like life is standing still briefly while we watch for opportunities. Alexander Graham Bell said ““Sometimes we stare so long at a door that is closing that we see too late the one that is open,” and this very accurately reflects the meaning of retrograde Jupiter.

Jupiter turns retrograde every year or so and when it does it encourages us to look back over our dreams and wishes for success and abundance in our lives and re-evaluate whether they are really in harmony with our soul’s purpose. As with any retrograde period, sometimes it feels as though we aren’t able to move forward as quickly as we would like. But these periods of looking back are a crucial part of our personal growth and help us to fine tune our goals and our vision for how we want our life to become.
Speaking of Jupiter, Jupiter will form a harmonious sextile to Chiron October 12th and because Jupiter is virtually stationary, this pleasant combination will facilitate healing and personal evolution for most of the month to provide support during some rough astrological waters. I like to think of Chiron as the soul healer; its role is to foster emotional healing through the release of old patterns, clearing the way for us to have a deeper and more enlightened experience of our true selves. In a sextile, Jupiter’s expansive nature gently amplifies the Chironic healing process.
This aspect will be in place throughout all of October and into November, making this the perfect time for any kind of healing to take place: Physical, but also emotional and psychological.

Pluto turns direct October 11. As you probably know, planets don’t really orbit backwards, but because we observe the movement of the planets from our own perspective they sometimes appear to do so. Outer planet represent transformational forces and when retrograde they tend to operate primarily on an internal level, and when Pluto turns direct (to appear to move forward again) there is a sense that the buildup of tension is released along with the transformative force that is pushing from behind.
Pluto was in Aquarius, beginning the new cycle, when it turned retrograde May 2nd and slipped back into Capricorn on September 2nd. A critical election is not the best time to have Pluto finishing the Capricorn job, but there we are. Predicting the future is a fool’s game and I am mystified why so many astrologers attempt it only to be proven wrong. But we are at the end of the Capricorn cycle which, I hope, bodes well for a change.
Mercury squares Pluto at the 29thº and then enters Scorpio October 13. Mercury changes signs every few weeks, but it’s not every day that it forms a challenging aspect to Pluto, its modern ruler, at the 29th degree. This is the last degree of a sign and is full of potency and questions. Will we finish up the matters of the previous sign? Are we ready to move into the next phase of the zodiac? Watch for decisions which need to be made, and long-delayed critical conversations which are needed to arrive at closure.

Dramatic Aries Full Moon SuperMoon October 17. I’ve been watching this one for a while. (Scroll down for the geeky astrological details). What you’re looking at is a Grand Cross in cardinal signs - a symbol of tension which requires a crisis to be released. There is a tremendous amount of energy here which is very well-suited to the intensification of Will in order to achieve something of great magnitude. This is a time to focus on achieving your goals and desires. Perhaps you aren’t even sure what they are: if that’s the case, these energies will likely push any secret longings into the open.
This will not be an ideal time for canoodling or seeking experiences of calm and peacefulness. This is a time for action, for power, and for self-recognition.
This influence will last for a few days; while the Moon will soon move into Taurus to calm one’s nerves, the Sun and Mars will take a few days to move into position to align exactly with Pluto with its power conflicts and dramatic events.
Geeky astrological details of the Full Moon: Mars rules the Moon and they are in mutual reception so the Moon reflects Mars energy back to it. Pluto squares both ends of the Full Moon and Mars is approaching an opposition to Pluto. Everything is angular in the chart for Washington DC and Venus is just coming off an opposition to Uranus for a Big Surprise. What could go wrong?
Sun squares Pluto and enters Scorpio October 22, and then Mars opposes Pluto and enters Scorpio November 1. The last two weeks of October are likely to be fairly intense emotionally. Emotional intensity usually spills over into events, so be prepared for some rocky times between October 13th or so and the end of the month. As always you’ll find the details in the weekly forecast!
