In the language of astrology, Jupiter expands whatever it touches. Upside: abundance and confidence. Downside: wretched excess and bombast. Jupiter refers to publishing, the media, higher learning, and collective belief systems, including court opinions and religious dogma. Last week, Jupiter slowed to a virtual standstill from our perspective on Earth and turned retrograde. The degree of its retrograde station was 21 degrees Gemini. Keywords for Gemini include anything verbal (e.g., news, information, writing and chit-chat); sales and marketing; entertainment; multitasking; anything that comes in pairs.

The US horoscope has a square between Mars (action, assertion, rage, courage, athletes, men, cowboys, cars, iron, steel, warriors, firearms, the color red) and Neptune (idealization, delusion; drugs, oil, faith, floods, glamour, film and other intangibles; saviors and con artists; the sublime and the surreal; things not being as they seem). Isn't that interesting, considering how America is known for its idealization of cowboys, cars, firearms, etc.? America is also known for asserting itself in matters of oil, drugs, film, evangelism, yes? Astrology argues that these assertions and idealizations are a clear reflection of the Mars-Neptune square in the US horoscope.

The US Mars is at 21 Gemini, and that's where transiting Jupiter is right now. The US Neptune is at 22 Virgo; transiting Jupiter is squaring it. Translation: any skilled astrologer looking at this scenario years in advance could see the potential in the United States for a big blow-up (Jupiter), possibly aggressive (Mars) in matters of information (Gemini), and the information might be a bit foggy, glamorized ("sanewashed"), fanatical, or a flat-out lie. (Neptune).

Jupiter will be within range of the US Mars-Neptune square through November, reflected in headlines like this:
