24 Sag/24 Gem
Jun. 18th, 2022 03:06 pmThe Sabian Symbols for this Full Moon are “a bluebird standing at the door of the house” (for the Sagittarius Moon) and “children skating on ice” (for the Gemini Sun). Sabian Sage Blain Bovee describes the bluebird as an “image of beginnings that bode happiness, and fortunate possibilities just outside the door.” Watch for news that reflects the challenge of stepping out into a new world; optimistic outlooks; being in the right place at the right time.
Astrologer James Burgess opines that the “children skating” represent something new and daring, along with a vow to remain undefeated, as in “raging against the dying of the light.” It should surprise no one that this Full Moon falls close to the DFG’s Gemini Sun and Sagittarius Moon, suggesting he is more personally affected than most.
Hope & Perfectionism/Judgemental, Critical
The Sabian symbol of this lunation is ‘A Blue Bird Perched On the Gate of a Cottage’. It's a beautiful symbol with an animated, cartoon-like quality to it. Here we have the idea of perfect happiness - the white picket fence, all is well in the world. And I guess that's what we're all searching for in happy-go-lucky Sagittarius.
The gate in the symbol represents a gateway between here and there, where you are and where you want to be. The fact that the bird is perched on the gate tells us that we need to look to the bird itself for clues as to how we can gain access to the beautiful vision we aspire to create. I think of birdsong, how the birds sing to the sun at dawn and then again at sundown, praising the light, honouring the day and all that can be achieved in that time. Every day is a new beginning, a new start, a new hope. Find your joy. When you find your joy, then every day can feel like this blue bird on the gate.
Saturn in Aquarius, sextile to the Full Moon, huffs under his breath. “Come on, not every day is going to be like that!”. And yes, we all have down days, difficult days with difficult problems and difficult people. Practically speaking, we know that reality has a tendency to bite from time to time. But the sextile to Saturn suggests that we are capable of overcoming our limits, capable of managing effectively, able to achieve our objectives. Hope is not something vague and ephemeral. It is real and tangible, a plan, a mindset, unshakeable belief.
Given that this lunation is square to idealistic Neptune however, we do have to watch a sneaking potential for judgmentalism, a shadow expression of Sagittarius. Expectations can become so high that nothing is ever good enough. In that headspace, we’re constantly disappointed and let down by life because we're so focused on what is wrong that we cannot see what is right. The blue bird on the gate reminds us to open doors for others, refuse to gatekeep, welcome a range of visitors and teachings. Sing the praises of those people and situations that lift you up and help you to see the big picture. Joy is gratitude in action.
