Asteroid Proserpina (26) conjunct Eris is a sharp, uncompromising signature. It’s not gentle. It describes forced awakening through rupture, especially around power, autonomy, and truth that’s been suppressed too long.

Here’s how the symbolism works when they merge:

Core Meaning

A breaking point where something stolen, silenced, or exiled refuses to stay buried.

Proserpina = the abducted maiden → loss of innocence, cyclical descent, forced transitions, living between worlds (before/after, powerless/powerful).

Eris = the disruptor → righteous anger, exclusion, discord that exposes injustice, the outsider who must be reckoned with.

Together, they indicate rage born from violation or exclusion, and the moment when that rage must surface.

-------------------------------------------------

sychological / Personal Themes

Anger that was not allowed expression at the time of the wound

Trauma that cycles until it is named and confronted

A person who becomes disruptive because silence is no longer survivable

Awakening into power after being controlled, abducted (literally or symbolically), or overridden

This is not petty conflict. It’s existential.

Mundane / Collective Expression

Marginalized groups erupting after long suppression/

Scandals involving abduction, coercion, trafficking, reproductive control, or stolen agency

Movements where the “quiet victim” becomes the agent of discord

Events that force society to confront what it tried to normalize or hide

How It Acts

Sudden, non-negotiable confrontation

“You don’t get to pretend this didn’t happen anymore”

The loss of peace in order to restore truth

If Tight by Degree

The closer the conjunction, the more inevitable the eruption. This pairing does not fade quietly—it demands consequence.

If you want, tell me:

the sign & house, or

whether this is natal, transit, or event-based,

and I’ll pin down where the rupture occurs and what kind of reckoning it brings.

Eris was the first planet discovered by Caltech (Mike Brown) at the turn of this century. Brown originally named the “dwarf” planet, Xena, after the campy TV show “Xena: Warrior Princess.” Can’t say I ever watched it, but apparently Mike Brown really loved it. More importantly, he picked up on the energy that was coming into being at the turn of this century, what was about to define the start of the 21st century, terrorism, and the rise of fundamentalist religious extremism. One could also argue that women’s rights and power have also been at the forefront of the 21st century. Women taking their power, fighting for their power, and all the strife that has come from that, as the religious extremists here and abroad have fought to suppress them. There could also be an argument for the rise of women in leadership, the rise of misogyny, and, more importantly, an awareness of all these issues as Eris came to be seen. The other big event was the 2000 election, in which Al Gore won the presidency, but the courts intervened to halt the vote and hand the presidency to the loser, George W. Bush. This was the first time in American history that the courts were used to deny votes from being counted. It heralded in a new Republican playbook - minority rule via stacking courts and cheating at elections - strife, the purview of Eris.

Of all the “dwarf” planets found in the Kuiper belt, and many more were to be seen, Xena, or later officially Eris, was the first and hence the most significant. Any good astrologer, parent, or writer knows the power of a name. Would a rose by any other name smell as sweet? I don’t know - if you called it poop, maybe not. Names are powerful; they have energy. Contained within them are packets of spiritual information that get superimposed on the plasma being via its name. I’m not sure if the name co-creates the being as it is born into this incarnation in time/space. Or if the being is named because the namer felt the energy of the being about to be born. I suspect it’s a two-way street, a little of both. Names are significant in astrology, as they conjure archetypes and shape how we will interact with the giant plasma being/planet. Xena is campy and kind of a stupid name, so you can see why I was worried. As an astrologer, I knew the next generation of astrologers, like me, were going to be taking the name and meditating on it, spinning it around, trying to make sense of it, and using it as a jumping-off point for its interpretation. So I did something rather unlike me, I found Mike Brown’s university email and told him I was a concerned astrologer and had he considered naming his planet a goddess name like Hera, or Juno, etc. He responded by assuring me he was aware of the psychological and archetypal significance of the names he had chosen, but he was in a bit of a pickle, as the asteroid belt had used up all the good names. There weren’t any ancient Geek or Roman or Celtic or really any European ancient Goddess names that hadn’t already been given to lesser astronomical bodies. Apparently, one cannot use the same name for an asteroid and a planet, or vice versa. Rules are rules. So he and his team were racking their brains and researching lesser-known and more obscure goddesses. Hence, Eris, a kind of crappy goddess, took center stage.

Haumea’s astrological influence typically centers around motherhood, fertility, and instinct. Astrolog summarizes its influence succinctly: “Haumea asks what are we giving birth to, and for what causes are we giving ourselves?”

Haumea governs the more obvious elements of nature and fertility, such as childbirth and motherhood. But it also influences our metaphysical connection to the natural world. It helps inform how we relate to our instinctual inner voice. Positive aspects with this planet indicate assured confidence, while a tense square or opposition might suggest a struggle to listen to one’s gut feelings.

Chiron
American astronomer Charles Kowal discovered Chiron in 1977, identifying the small body’s orbit between Saturn and Uranus. The tiny celestial body is named after the “Wounded Healer” of Greek mythology whose mother abandoned him at birth, leaving him to be raised by Apollo, the God of Light. We most closely associate Chiron with our vulnerable “soft spots.”

Chiron represents the inner wounds we carry. As Astrologer Psychologer’s Alyssa Landers explains, “Chiron’s placement shines a light on our past hurts and ‘baggage,’ revealing how our repeated interactions with the world elicit our insecurities.”

When placed in a positive aspect with other celestial bodies, Chiron calls us to use our past pain to support, uplift, and protect others. Conversely, a challenging Chiron aspect can serve as a warning to keep our emotions in check. Are we responding to what’s in front of us, or are we responding to our internal fears?

Ceres
Giuseppe Piazzi discovered Ceres in 1801 at the behest of astronomers Johann Elert Bode and Johann Daniel Titius, who employed “celestial police” to find bodies that corroborated their Titius-Bode Law, a formula that predicted the orbits of planets but included an unknown gap between Mars and Jupiter. Piazzi found the celestial body they needed to confirm the Titius-Bode Law, making it the first dwarf planet discovered in astronomical history.

Ceres’ name comes from the Roman goddess of agriculture, fertility, and motherly relationships. Its domain centers on birth, maturation, parenthood, and death. “She is there in death, loss, and grieving, but she also emerges with us in birth, fecundity, and growth again,” Alison Chester-Lambert explains in The Astrological Journal (via Astro).

This dwarf planet helps us consider what we need to feel nurtured and, conversely, the ways in which we can nurture others. It also plays a role in times of great personal and social change.

Eris
Discovered in January 2005, Eris’ comparable size to Pluto caused some scientists to classify it as our solar system’s tenth planet. Other scientists disagreed, calling it a dwarf planet, which inadvertently called Pluto’s status into question. Named after the Greek goddess of strife and discord, Eris’ tumultuous origin story is a perfect testament to its astrological propensity to push against the status quo.

Eris directly relates to our urge to rebel. This dwarf planet informs the ways in which we defy norms out of spite, fear, or righteousness. “The astrology of Eris seems to be related to the no-holds-barred fight for continued existence that is fundamental in all natural processes and for making a stand for what one believes,” per Astrograph.

In mythology, Eris is the sister of Ares, the Roman Mars, tying these two celestial bodies together. Depending on Eris’ placement to Mars, this alignment can determine how aggressively (or meekly) we choose to stand up for ourselves and beliefs.

Makemake
Astronomers at California’s Palomar Observatory discovered Makemake in March 2005, spotting the faraway dwarf planet in the same Kuiper Belt region as Haumea. It is named after the god of fertility in the Rapa Nui mythology, which originated on Easter Island.

Whereas Haumea governs our connection to the world in a nurturing and instinctual sense, Makemake tends to govern the same domain with a more authoritative stance. This dwarf planet influences how we advocate for the world around us, informing our activist spirit and our connection to one another and the environment.

Astrolog poses this one crucial question from Makemake: “How are we individually and collectively ‘fertilizing’ the world with our actions?” Our Makemake placements ask us to consider how we fight for causes and people we believe in, our connection to the natural world, and how grounded we are within our internal and external environments.

Dear Friend and Reader:

Most people want astrology to tell them when they’re going to get rich, when they’re going to get laid, and when they’re going to die. I’m sorry but I cannot help with any of those questions today; for an extra fee, catch me next week.

But today I can tell you something about the current conjunction of Chiron and Eris that it would seem has not broken the surface of mainstream or even alt astrology. I’m not surprised; this is not an easy event to read. It involves two slow-moving planets, small but meaningful, that are setting the tone of our time in history.

The conjunction takes place on Oct. 8, the second in a cluster of three (this is true of most outer-planet conjunctions). In this cluster, the first happened May 27 and the last one will be March 19, 2026. If you want to understand the crisis the planet is in, which is mostly a crisis of consciousness, this is the aspect to study.

Under the Chiron-Eris conjunction: Pres. Richard Nixon and Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai toast, Feb. 25, 1972, Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum.
An Era-Defining, Generational Event
An event like this defines an era; historically, I see evidence of this influence being in effect back at least five years and potentially back to 2018. With slow-moving outer planet events, we are talking about generational astrology that defines an era, and moreover, a time frame with events that define an era.

Something like this last happened in 1971-72 (in Aries, like today), when Chiron and Eris formed their most recent conjunction. This was really the astrology of what we think of as the late 1960s and early 1970s (the early ‘60s were described by the Uranus-Pluto-Chiron pattern from Virgo to Pisces).

Before that we have to go back to 1917-1918 (Chiron conjunct Eris in Pisces), and then to 1863-1864 (also in Pisces). If you know history, you know that these are the dates of all-consuming wars: the peak of Vietnam, U.S. involvement in World War I, and the U.S. War Between the States (or Civil War).

What’s different about now is that for the first time, the conjunction is happening consciously — that is, we know about it. All the previous ones were before either planet was discovered. Astrologers had no way to know about their existence, and with extremely rare exceptions more than a century ago, do not attempt to infer the presence of unknown planets.

The digital environment before it melted down. Photo of #Occupy Wall Street takeover of Times Square, autumn 2011. Photo by Eric Francis.
The World Information War, or WW III
We are now in another war — the World Information War, which is WW III. In this unusual uproar, there’s no distinction between civilian and military combatants; between adults and children; between corporate and individual actors; or between nationalities. This is an all-in kind of war, involving everyone, described by the turmoil of Eris in Aries.

Yet this war is about more than external conflict. It is the result of personhood falling through the floor of the digital environment. The real crisis is within consciousness, and for those who can feel it, the current moment is calling for awareness about how to get out of that conflict. Many other people will be dragged in deeper; some will stay in a state of perpetual confusion; and others will get their bearings and commit to a healing process, both personal and social. ...
The #Astrology of Eris: Eris in the Houses
Posted on March 19, 2015 by Beth Turnage
Eris Glyph(Astrology Explored) Eris, the black winged goddess of Strife is a portion of the Sumerian goddess Innana, :

Inanna could be wily and cunning. She was a powerful warrior, who drove a war chariot, drawn by lions

Innanna ruled as a goddess during the dawn of human civlization and not only represented strength in battle, but also:

She endowed the people of Sumer with gifts that inspired and insured their growth as a people and a culture

.

When the patriarchal tribes of Northern Greece over ran the Southern matriarchal tribes all the goddesses, including Eris, suffered a reduction in power and influence as the new patriarchal religious forms supplanted matriarchal forms. Those goddess images that survived with good press, Venus, for instance, morphed from stronger images of War Goddesses, to more docile forms. Eris, as “queen of battle” didn’t translate well into the new dichotomy and therefore became an “outsider” in the patriarchal Greek pantheon.

Eris defines the part of ourselves whose essential nature is as odds with our current cultural norms. This part of us stands against “what everyone does”. With Eris now recognized in our solar system and now part of our developmental path as a species, this is the time for us to recognize that true inner voice that does not bend to the will of the many. We may kick up some discord, but it is for our own good.

Eris in the Houses

When Eris resides in your first house, your mission is to trust yourself. You will have opinions that differ from societies’, you will do things different from other people. You will experience pain and loss here, because though you may desire to integrate fully into society, you can not. This in not a Uranian process where you discover your individuality. The Eris process dictates that your innate sense of values pits yourself against society. You have no other choice.

With Eris in your second house of resources, it is your task to sound the alarm regarding the incorrect use of resources. You have a vastly different way handling money and wealth which involves the sharing of resources. People think you are foolish with your use of money. You are not. You realize the value of sharing cooperatively, though there is a danger of using your resources to dominate your social sphere.

In the third house of communications, Eris gives you a strong voice that sounds discordant against the sounds of the collective. You have the intellect to discern what is off balance and not in the interests of the society. You must beware of forcing your opinions on others, but it your job to tell society at large your perceptions.

When Eris resides in your fourth house of the home you have the power to recognize how past conditions have contributed to current problems. You experience through your childhood how unequal power distribution causes problems in the home. If you are wise, you will work on these dynamics in your own life, so the same bitter fruit is not born. If you do not, you will repeat the experiences of your parents.

Eris in the fifth house of romance and creativity gives you the power to create divergent forms that highlights societal problems caused by unequal power distribution. Your images, your writing, your music can inspire others with the power of your message. Likewise, if you misspend your gift, your art will devolve into pointless blame games. You must work to overcome that tendency in your life.

When Eris sits in your sixth house of health and servants, you challenges your authority with others and other people’s authority to make health care decisions for you. This latter situation can manifest as a health care crisis that is not managed correctly by the care provider calling for clarity of thinking and intervention on your part. You will have to be your own best health care advisor.

In your seventh house of partnerships Eris will create situations of unequal distribution of power that will stress your relationship. You will have to work at finding a partner that will share your goal of sharing the work and well as the joys of partnership, or suffer the consequences for failing to doing so. If you attempt to follow traditional male/female roles, your relationship will ultimately lose its vitality and strength of purpose.

Eris in your eighth house of death [transformation] creates situations where you experience people trying to take away your resources. Inheritances, insurance payments and loans can be contentious and difficult experiences, especially if you are elected to be the consevator/distributor of those funds. You may have to share a partnership role in the disbursement of funds, but do not have final say in where they are to go. In the area of sexual development you may have sexual experiences that are incomplete or unsatisfying due to one partner or the other demanding a control of the sexual experience.

With Eris in the ninth house of law and education, you may experience education and travel opportunities that are divergent from the norm. You may find the traditional educational process difficult to complete because of your urges to pursue your own line of study. Travel takes you to places where you glimpse the economic inequities of life. Even if you go to a sunny Carribean beach for vacation you might find yourself getting lost in the slums.

When Eris resides in the tenth house of authority and power, you are here to understand your role in taking care of the those with less power than you. Should you not have a natural understanding of this role, Eris will make sure you experience the consequences of the bigger fish eating the smaller fish. You will experience why some people insist on “survival of the fittest” and you will not necessarily be the one considered “fit”. When you grow in wisdom in this role, you wlll be a fine steward of the needs of the people.

Eris in the eleventh house of organizations and friends, you either do or will come to understand the necessity of a cooperative role within the group. You may be confronted with situations that place you outside the group for a time to experience the feeling of “odd man out.” In a cooperative society there is no room for pushing people to an outsider’s position. When you come to understand this yourself, you can teach the rest of your brothers and sisiters.

In the twelfth house of connection with the your higher sources, Eris gives you a voice to speak about how this dimension’s experience does not necessarily mirror all of reality. You have a powerful prophetic voice that holds much wisdom and truth. You can channel the wisdom of higher realms and have the ability to access the Akashic records without the guidance of the guardians from the other side. However, because your voice is at dissonance with the drumbeat of your time, often you are not listened to, like Cassandra of Trojan War fame.

Chiron

Mar. 28th, 2025 12:46 pm
Chiron moved into Aries in 2019 and for the world, it's a war wound. Note how the Libra fall 2024 eclipse on the ascendant of Israel marked the start of a horrendous war. The April Chiron infused solar eclipse hints that the USA may be a critical player in peace deals for the middle east (and Russia Ukraine) over the weeks and months that follow Chiron direct.

Chiron is not just the wound, Chiron was the mentor of the warriors of the ancient world -- Hercules, Achilles, both learned from Chiron to only kill as a last resort. The concept of the noble hero in war, rather than the plundering attacker, is embedded in Chiron - War archetypes.

For the incoming administration, Chiron travels direct through Donald Trump's 9th house of foreign countries (and yes, courts). It seems plausible that his administration will move quickly into foreign policy actions to quell the "forever: wars in the world.

In your own life think back to 2019 and the whole sign Aries part of your natal sky. This area has been wounded. For me, it's my writing and travel third house. Covid locked me down as a Canadian who choose to not take the vax -- I was not allowed to leave my country, or travel within it!

familiar with the terms “purging” or “healing crisis”. This happens ONLY if we become aware of the wound. If the wound remains unconscious, healing doesn’t happen. Chiron transforms the wound into a GIFT Once the wound has been HEALED!
The Major Asteroids
The four major asteroids, Ceres, Pallas, Juno and Vesta, were discovered within a few years of each other at the beginning of the 19th century, and named for female goddesses in the Roman pantheon. Their discovery has been synchronous with the rise of the women's movement in the West. These four asteroids seem to symbolize four different facets of the feminine and represent a fresh way of regarding the feminine principle in astrology, going beyond the relatively simple categories of wife and mother, as represented by Venus and the Moon. The major asteroids are the four largest asteroids in the asteroid belt (located between Mars and Jupiter shown in white) and their qualities are described below.

Ceres Ceres
Keyword: Nurturing
Ceres
Ceres was the first asteroid ever discovered, on New Year's Day in 1801! She is the most massive body in the asteroid belt, and is now defined as a dwarf planet along with Pluto and Eris. Because Ceres is believed to contain a liquid ocean, she is a main target for research of extraterrestrial life.

As goddess of the harvest and the natural process of fertility and renewal, Ceres represents the process of nurturing and motherhood in an individual's chart, and has been attributed to the sign Cancer as a co-ruler with the Moon.

In a chart, an afflicted Ceres by planetary aspect may indicate problems with being able to nurture, or to be nurtured by others, perhaps manifesting in food complexes, or a feeling of rejection by parental figures. When strongly placed, it symbolizes the ability to take on parental responsibilities, especially in a female subject, and also may indicate someone who has a close relationship with the earth, as gardener or grower of food. Also the position of Ceres by house and sign, and its planetary connections, is likely to indicate the way in which motherhood (or parenthood) manifests in one's life.

Pallas Pallas
Keyword: Wisdom
Pallas
The asteroid Pallas (short for Pallas Athene) was the second of the four major asteroids to be discovered, in 1802. Pallas represents the wisdom of the female spirit, as the mythology of Pallas Athene would indicate: born from the head of Zeus, and symbolized by the owl and the snake, Pallas Athene was a powerful symbol for independence and wisdom in the ancient mythology. She did not ally herself with any man, but rather was a strong and warrior-like figure who aided men of good will and whose advice was prized for its intelligence.
The astrology of the asteroid Pallas indicates such a feminine spirit of independence and cool mental judgment.

In an individual chart, Pallas represents the creative use of the mental faculty in combination with ageless wisdom, and is also involved with the arts, especially the plastic arts such as sculpture and pottery, and with medicinal remedies. Its position by house and sign indicates where in one's life the divine spark of creative intelligence and higher wisdom may spring forth.

Juno Juno
Keyword: Marriage
Juno
The asteroid Juno was the third of the four major asteroids to be discovered, in 1805. In mythology Juno (or the Greek Hera) was wife and consort to Jupiter, and therefore the astrology of Juno represents the partnering energy of intimate relationship.
This is also the territory of Venus and the Moon, but where Juno seems to differ is in representing the partnership energy in a new light, as in the more modern issues of where the boundaries are with another person, how much sharing is appropriate, versus holding back, are there issues of bitterness and jealousy, or projected authority and control onto another person, and intimacy needs in general.

When Juno is prominent in a natal chart, all these type of issues are important to the individual. If Juno is aspected by another planet, these issues may be colored by the energy of that planet. Juno's position by house and sign is an indication of the area of life in which these issues will be most important.

Vesta Vesta
Keyword: Self-sufficiency
Vesta
The asteroid Vesta was the last of the four major asteroids to be discovered, in 1807. The mythology of Vesta (or Greek Hestia) is as follows: one of the sisters of Jupiter and Juno, Vesta chose to remain a virgin and not marry. She was the goddess of the hearth fire, which was of utmost importance in ancient times, connoting hospitality and the basic vitality of the home or city-state, and her astrological symbol is the flame. It is interesting to note that Vesta is the brightest of the four asteroids. Her symbolism also suggests the "vestal virgin" temple priestesses of the ancient Geek world, and their commitment to no man, but to their own inner flame of service to the goddess. Their service might even be of a sexual nature, but they remained untouched by any sexual intimacy with another person.
In accordance with its mythology, the asteroid Vesta is involved with both the signs Virgo and Scorpio. In the astrology of Vesta in an individual chart, these issues of sexuality and completeness unto oneself predominate. Possible associations are the woman (or man) who chooses not a mate, but as a nun or monk takes on a higher purpose than normal family life, also issues of sexuality and who is ultimately served in the process, self or other. Thus when Vesta is prominent in the chart, there may be issues with purity, singleness and sexuality either by abstinence or by one involving oneself with multiple partners which yet leave the individual untouched by relationship. The placement of Vesta by house and sign also indicate the area of life where these issues may manifest.

Eris
Eris
Keyword: Feminine Warrior for Soul Purpose

If we take a look at the mythology of the newest planet in our Solar System (even though they are calling her a dwarf) and the events surrounding her discovery, from 2003 - 2006, the idea of potentially violent struggle is indeed paramount and as well the ideal of the vital female warrior. Before being officially named Eris last fall, after the Goddess of Strife and Discord, the new planet, designated 2003 UB313, was called Xena, and the name Persephone was considered. Since Persephone and Xena, the warrior princess of popular culture, are involved in the early naming of Eris, the archetypal image comes to the fore of a perhaps damaged and certainly militant feminism that does not shrink from violence. As for events, the time frame of the discovery matches that of the Iraq War, which can certainly be viewed as a violent struggle for resources.

When Pluto was found in the 1930's, its discovery introduced some dark notions regarding the human condition, of a depth and a power that were previously unacknowledged. It stands to reason that Eris, found even farther out into the dark void at the edge of the solar system, will also. Just as we have grown through our understanding of the astrological Pluto, so too we will grow as we come to integrate the Eris archetype into modern Western Astrology.

The astrology of Eris seems to be related to the no-holds-barred fight for continued existence that is fundamental in all natural process, and for making a stand for what one believes, even if violence is involved. As the sister of Mars, the God of War, Eris willingly sought the battle. There is a side of nature that is quite harsh, a struggle for survival, and this struggle is a fundamental part of the human condition as well, for we are still half animal. Nature can be viewed in a rosy light, as it was in the hippie movement of the sixties, Bambi drinking from a little stream, but underlying this beauty is the possibility of sudden death at any moment since all of nature's children need to eat. Eris is related to this principle, and to the concept of the female warrior that embodies it, and especially to the feminist struggle for rights in a patriarchal society.

Makemake Symbol
Makemake
Keyword: Earth Issues

This is the second new planet, or dwarf planet, or "plutoid," to be officially named, after being referred to as "Easter bunny" for three years by its discoverer, Mike Brown. The official name refers to the creation god of Easter Island, or Rapa Nui. In size somewhat smaller than either Pluto or Eris, this planet follows a new 21st century tradition of naming discovered planets from the creation deities of indigenous peoples, rather than more classically from the Greco-Roman pantheon of gods and goddesses. The orbital period of Makemake is 306 years. Like Eris, Makemake was discovered near the farthest point of its highly elliptical orbit, and incidentally in an exact inconjunct or 150-degree aspect from Eris within 2 minutes of a degree of longitude.

As the creation god of the Rapa Nui, Makemake symbolizes a connection with environmental sagacity that is entirely appropriate for the troubled earth times, including environmental issues, surrounding its discovery. This is because when Europeans discovered what became known as Easter Island, the Rapa Nui occupied an island entirely denuded of its trees, either because they were cut down or lost to disease, and in their isolated island environment could no longer build canoes or fish and were living a subsistence existence. Of course this island culture is also famous for the multitude of incredibly large stone heads that were carved and erected there, having been transported to the shoreline. The myth involving their creation god Makemake includes a form of worship in which a Birdman was selected from tribal leaders each year. The claimants would select a representative from the best of the young warriors, who would compete by swimming to a neighboring islet, a dangerous journey that involved climbing a large cliff on their return wearing a headdress designed for the purpose of fetching the first bird egg of the season back to the spring festival at the top. Once his champion returned victorious, the selected Birdman for that year would become a powerful shamanic figure, and would meditate and have the big dreams to guide the people and bring his visions to the culture. Makemake is thus a male God, yet with a strong intuitive component.

Taking this segment of ritual practice as an indication of this new planetary energy, we could speculate that the archetype associated with Makemake involves delving down into the dark interior of the psyche in order to obtain a form of received wisdom to be merged with the warrior male outer-oriented energy of the ego. This wisdom can only be found in the inner world, a world that is also connected to Nature and natural process, to natural law, right action, right relationship, and to an internal moral compass, resulting in activism for furthering the culture's evolution. Where he is found in charts there can be found also Earth wisdom and the capacity for spiritual renewal.

The astrology of Makemake is related to love and care for the natural world and for defending Earth's environment. This archetype thus signals a profound connection to nature that is quite similar to the archetype of Haumea, his fellow traveler in the Kuiper Belt, with the same astronomical designation and also named from the pantheon of indigenous gods and goddesses. Indeed, these two are possessed of quite similar orbital periods, being only a little longer than their far better understood cousin, Pluto. They travel around the Zodiac in recent centuries with Haumea leading by a separation of 20 to 40 degrees. As the male God of the pair, and seemingly the more militant of the two, Makemake is associated with the wisdom of the natural world, and also with an activist stance for advancing important environmental and social issues that are highlighted in this 21st century.

Haumea Symbol
Haumea
Keyword: Earth Goddess

The third trans-Neptunian Object, or TNO, to be officially designated as a dwarf planet, after Eris and MakeMake, Haumea was discovered just after Christmas 2004 and nicknamed "Santa" by discoverer Mike Brown's team before being named for the Hawaiian creation goddess. Its discovery was officially announced on July 29th, 2005, by his group. Haumea is different from other TNOs in that it is rocky, as befits a goddess of the earth, and rotating extremely rapidly - a revolution every 4 hours. As a result, its shape is elongated, like a small cigar. Haumea's extreme elongation makes it unique among TNOs, with its greatest axis twice as long as its shortest. Its orbital period is 284 years. It was discovered when it was near to its farthest distance from the Sun, or its aphelion, as were MakeMake and Eris.

Creation goddess of the islands of Hawaii, Haumea was the source of many gods and goddesses as well as of the race of humankind. Pele, Hi'iaka, Namaka, Laka and many others were her offspring. Her skill at childbirth is recounted in countless stories. Children sprang from different parts of her body, Hi'iaka from her mouth and Namaka from her breasts. She rules over fertility and childbirth. She possessed a magic stick from the Makalei tree that would enable her to conjure up fish and other edibles, and therefore she is also associated with a never-failing food supply. She also has the power of eternal youth. With each birth she was destroyed and subsequently recreated herself. This choice of planetary archetype arising in these times would seem to support the environmental concerns of dwindling resources and the response of fecund creativity that gives forth abundance and life itself in response to deprivation.

The astrology of Haumea is related to love of the natural world and to the fecundity of natural process. This archetype thus signals profound connection to Nature, implying connection to Source, and as well to natural law, to right action, right relationship, and truth-telling. When strongly placed, those natives also frequently display a form of natural charisma. It may well develop that this planetary archetype comes to represent the power of life to triumph over adversity by drawing upon inner respect and understanding of Nature herself, and for an innate moral compass that all of us possess, but do not always act upon. Where she is located in the chart will be a source of inner strength, spiritual connection, and protean flexibility.
what does a zeus eris opposition mean in astrology
In astrology, an opposition between two planets is an aspect where they are 180 degrees apart, meaning they are directly opposite each other in the zodiac. This aspect often indicates a balancing act or tension between the energies of the two planets involved.

Zeus (often associated with Jupiter) represents authority, leadership, and expansion, while Eris symbolizes discord, chaos, and disruption. An opposition between Zeus and Eris suggests a dynamic where there is a constant push and pull between order and chaos, authority and rebellion, or expansion and disruption.

This aspect might indicate situations where one's desire for control and leadership is challenged by chaotic or disruptive forces, requiring a balance between maintaining order and embracing change. It can also highlight areas in life where one might need to address underlying conflicts or tensions to achieve harmony.

Eris

Nov. 22nd, 2024 01:57 pm
Since the recent presidential election, I have spent a heap of time pondering Chiron’s approach to Eris in Aries.

There are some extremely difficult associations with Eris. Allegedly, she loved the piteous groaning of warriors dying on a battlefield. She savored conjuring mayhem everywhere she went. Why? According to lore, when she perceived herself to be excluded, she sought to even playing fields and extract infinite retribution. She sought to go well beyond equalization of the score and penalize all she perceived who wronged her.

In optimal reality, the cosmic agenda of Eris extends far beyond her pettiness and paranoid perceptions. Her north node is Taurus, her perihelion Libra, both Venus ruled signs. Eris’ nodal degrees contrasted with her perihelion degree are found to be in quincunx - an aspect that insists upon adjustment and correction to achieve long-range objectives.

What does this even mean?

For one thing, when the world is extra complicated and it seems the powers that be induce mayhem and more at every turn, one must rely upon inner instincts and sensibilities as if there is no tomorrow to ensure that there will actually be a tomorrow. The combined effect induces a series of questions all intended to securing the clear sense that you have a place at the table of your own life. Being at the table of life means offering a full skill set, and based upon those skills offering a full, solution based plan that cannot be denied, regardless of theological, social, political or any agenda-driven position. This does take honest answers to difficult questions.
Since the recent presidential election, I have spent a heap of time pondering Chiron’s approach to Eris in Aries. Eris, was the goddess of discord... or is it dischord? If a member of a symphony hits a clunker of a note, what does that do the performance? The conductor will notice and likely expand the rehearsal schedules. Will other orchestra members be knocked off key? Will the audience notice such discordant rendering? If the audience notices, will it react? What can the audience do about a performance in progress? Are orchestra goers confined to submitting bad online views later? What does a crappy review do for a performance that already occurred? Is there any point?

The Rise of Eris: The Warrior Woman
Eris entered Aries in 1926 amid the "Roaring Twenties." It was during the "Roaring Twenties" that a "new" woman was born. These new, politically forward women were very controversial and created discord by defying society's standards of what women were supposed to do, say, wear, act like, and be.

They gained political power when they won the right to vote in 1920 and by the middle of the 1920s women:

Had broken out of their domestic shell
Began wearing shorter skirts, pants, more dramatic makeup, and cut their hair
Weren't shy about flaunting their sexuality
Drank, smoked, and danced in clubs
Eris, the "Hell Hath No Fury Like a Woman" Planet
Eris' visual discovery and her naming began the process of merging the "warrior woman" archetype into the collective consciousness. Eris won't exit Aries until 2048. Which means the almost everyone alive today has witnessed or participated in the rise of the "warrior woman." Since 2006 there has been incredible progress in the fight towards achieving gender equality.

Eris and the 2017 "Woman's March"
Uranus the planet of radical change and Eris the warrior woman were side by side (conjunct) in the heavens from about June 2016 to March 2017. On January 21, 2017, the tension had built to the point that suddenly and unexpectedly an estimated 3,300,000 to 4,600,000 people in the United States and up to 5 million worldwide stepped forward to participate in a march for women's rights.

Eris in Your Birth Chart
Unless you were born before 1926, you have Eris in the sign of Aries. This makes her position by aspect and astrological house in a birth chart significant. However it takes many years for astrologers to come to an understanding of how a new planet should be interpreted in a birth chart, and Eris has only been studied since 2006. However, it seems clear that wherever Eris is in your chart, an "angelic warrior" is at work creating discord and strife.

Possible Key Phrases for Eris
Listed below are some key phrases you can play with that might help you interpret what Eris means in your birth chart. Note: Keep in mind that men also have a feminine warrior within.

The house Eris occupies may be where you:

Must overcome crises through compassion
Strive the hardest to grow
Where you can no longer be in denial
Fight to the end
Shake up the status quo
Liberate yourself from tradition
Do things in your way
Apply all of your resourcefulness
Have a general sense of being forsaken, condemned, or abandoned
The Feminine Fights Back
Few astrologers use Eris in their day-to-day consulting, which isn't surprising since it took 30 years for many to use Pluto after its discovery. However, Eris is important because she's related to your fight for existence and to standing up and fighting for what you believe in, even if violence is involved. Eris, at her most basic, is the fighting strength of the feminine that's exemplified by the feminist struggle for rights in a patriarchal society.

Fights with Press and RF and IN COURT Disputes

Pluto is about exploring what power is and isn’t, the square between the two bodies brings pressure and friction between a sense of strength and confidence (Pluto) and triggering being triggered by others in ways that can lead to escalations of conflict and competition (Eris).

finding the “weak link” or the “chink in one’s armor” (I didn’t want to overuse “Achilles’ heel” here). If the chart holder feels confident by being in charge of something (related to kids now with Pluto in Capricorn natally), someone else will always be able to point out a flaw in that person’s record, qualifications, or perceived right to be in charge of it. Similarly if the chart holder feels strong because of a developing confidence in taking charge of something in her life, there will always potentially be another person who can point out what isn’t perfect, with the implication that the chart holder shouldn’t feel so good about her efforts and self.

The multilife wounding with this aspect can be that somehow others are triggered into chaos or recklessness when the chart holder makes firm decisions or gives marching orders. Competition from “lower ranks” of people (whoever is being lead if the Pluto-in-Capricorn person is leading) can derail the chart holder’s efforts to get meaningful work done. This also can work the other way, where the chart holder can challenge others’ qualifications to be in charge of things or, in general, be trusted to be competent and deliver on a task or project. In short, the effectiveness of the Capricornian investment of time and energy (empowerment through becoming authoritative, responsible, competent, mature, etc.) can be pressed against by critical others representing the energy of Eris in Aries.

There can be a feeling of the Eris person in the dynamic as a terrorist of sorts, as whatever the structure the Pluto -in-Capricorn person creates, the Eris person has a desire to poke holes in its apparent cogency, security or safety, logic, and stability.

Attitude also matters.

William has an attitude of gratitude. You can tell by the way he treats his wife, his kids, his father and the people around him. A grateful attitude is focused on others and less on self.

Harry’s attitude is self focused. Selfish and egocentric. Jealous and petty. His is a never ending pity party. He believes he has been wronged and deserves to have it made up to him.

I agree it matters who you marry. But attitude towards life matters more. Their wives only amplified what was already there.

Unfortunately if he ever has a change of heart it will be too late. He can never be trusted again.

ASTEROID CYBELE
Cybele is an earth mother goddess with a twist. She is a rather colourful character depicted as an exotic foreigner arriving on a chariot drawn by roaring lions and escorted by drunken, ecstatic revellers playing wild music. Cybele was originally an ancient Anatolian (Asia Minor) mother goddess that the Greeks then assimilated. She is the Goddess of mountains and lions. She was absorbed into other earth goddesses in some parts of Greece, such as Gaia, Rhea, and Demeter.

*Usually Members Only
THE CYBELE MYTH
Cybele was famed for her entourage of transgender and eunuch priests, and her consort was a castrated Shepard named Attis. She is quite the paradox then, chiefly known for being this fertile earth Goddess but with a slim chance of having children from her dismembered partner. The Romans reinvented Cybele as a Trojan goddess, but her true meaning, mystery, and the manner of her worship are still hotly debated. However

“Her associations with hawks, lions, and the very stone of the wild, mountainous Anatolian landscape suggest her as the mother of the land and its wild, untrammelled nature, with power to dominate, moderate or soften its latent ferocity, and control its potential threats to a settled, civilised life.” [1]

Ceres On Steriods
Cybele is a sabre-toothed Ceres on steroids… with claws. Although Cybele is a devoted mother, as a foreigner, her parenting style is distinctly “uncivilised.” The Greeks were in awe of her and took her into their culture, but in reality, they held her at arm’s length. Her animalistic behaviour and liking for wild places estranged her from her fellow Olympian mother goddesses. It seems her rituals involved a great deal of manic bashing of percussion instruments, hollering, and frenzied gyrating dancers.

This cacophony was thought to be healing, rather like an ancient version of Drum and bass or techno trance. In artwork of the time, Cybele’s consort Attis is shown as her subordinate, always younger than her, and of course, he is an eunuch. Attis starts as a rugged and handsome Shepherd, but after his self-mutilation, he is referred to as a female.

Comparisons To Rhea
Goddess Rhea, one of the Titanesses in Greek mythology, embodies fertility, motherhood, and the generative forces of nature. As the mother of the Olympian gods, including Zeus, Hera, and Poseidon, she holds a significant position in the pantheon, symbolizing the nurturing and life-giving aspects of the earth. Rhea is often depicted with lions which highlights her formidable nature and connection to the wild, untamed elements of the world. The lions symbolize her strength and majesty, reinforcing her role as a protective force. This imagery underscores her dual nature as both a gentle mother and a powerful, commanding figure in the ancient mythological landscape.

Cybele Mother Adoration *
I noticed the orb for Cybele seems to be wider than most asteroids, possibly due to its size and orbital period. So, I would give it 3 degrees. Cybele can manifest in a variety of ways. In a man, the most negative can be seen in someone like Jimmy Saville, who worshipped his mother to such an extent that he lived with her until she died. He was a confirmed bachelor, and no other woman could match up to her.

He had Cybele square his Venus/Ceres conjunction. Otherwise, this could indicate a man who adores his mother but never really grows up or leaves home. I know a few situations like this where the son ends up acting as the elderly mother’s manservant, driving her around and being her carer. Of course, regular relationships will suffer, and these subjects will often remain unmarried.

Emasculating *
Cybele harmoniously aspected in a man’s chart can be a fascination with exotic, foreign women who are in touch with their wild, earthy side. But in the hard aspect, they may find these lionesses too frightening and emasculating. Moon conjunct Cybele is a good example but can be a mix of both hard and soft attributes. One of two things can happen in a woman; they may be attracted to placid, feminine men or foreign men of a different race and creed. I have noticed that females with harmonious Cybele/Moon greatly admire their mother, who become a strong role model for them.

It all depends on what planet Cybele is in aspect to because, like Ceres, there is a dark side to her. This comes from the tendency to Dionysian revelling, which can lead to addiction problems. With Cybele, as shown in the discovery chart, there can be problems managing anger, too. I have found a few violent alcoholics (Sun conjunct Cybele) here and spouses who are attracted to dangerous relationships. This seems most noticeable when Cybele is in hard aspect to Mars, Ceres, Lilith or Pluto. I think Cybele is a very interesting and unusual archetype; she is complex in how it will play out in a natal chart. The house she falls in your horoscope is the area of your life where you need to release your wild, exotic, loud and frenzied side. But cage this big cat at your peril!

Eris is a dwarf planet that was discovered in 2005 and named after the Greek goddess of strife and discord1. In astrology, Eris is associated with the themes of chaos, disruption, conflict, and transformation2. Eris has a similar role as Pluto in astrology, as Eris indicates how and when you express your more rebellious side3. How Eris is placed in your natal chart can show how you express disagreement and rebellion toward particular things3.

In mundane astrology, which is the branch of astrology governing places, countries, cities, entities, corporations, geographical events, and the world4, Eris can signify major upheavals, revolutions, wars, and crises that challenge the established order and bring about radical changes5. Eris can also represent the marginalized groups, the outsiders, the rebels, and the activists who fight for their rights and causes against the dominant powers5. Some examples of Eris in mundane astrology are:

The discovery of Eris in 2005 coincided with the rise of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, which have enabled people to share their opinions, expose injustices, and organize protests and movements on a global scale5.
The transit of Eris in Aries from 1926 to 2048 corresponds to a period of increased individualism, independence, and assertiveness in the collective consciousness, as well as conflicts and wars over identity, ideology, and territory5.
The conjunction of Eris and Uranus in Aries from 2016 to 2017 marked a time of sudden and unexpected changes, shocks, and disruptions in the world order, such as the Brexit referendum, the election of Donald Trump, the rise of populism and nationalism, and the emergence of new social movements such as Black Lives Matter and Me Too5.
Eris is a powerful and influential planet that reflects the challenges and opportunities that humanity faces in this time of rapid evolution and transformation. By understanding its role in mundane astrology, we can gain insight into the historical trends and current events that shape our world.

Aries 20° A young girl feeding birds in winter

This is a symbol of man’s self-assurance as regained by giving nourishment to forms of life other than his own. The social nature of the inner being is stressed here by a receptivity to experience which becomes the characteristic of youth and of femininity, and by a deep generosity of spirit which marks maturity and the more masculine aspiration which has its expression in the more barren periods of everyday being.
