Today we still see acted out the old rituals that bind a group into awareness of ancient archetypes – from Mardi Gras to Easter parades, Father Christmas to Halloween pumpkin monsters. This is because they provide an essential method to raise individuals out of personality and into a collective group consciousness. It is how we learn to surrender self to transpersonal realities with the attendant remembering of the awareness of our larger responsibilities.

Shakespeare reminds us that ‘all the world’s a stage’, yet we are constantly challenged to remember our roles as performers – this requires a very sensitive intelligence, a noteworthy subtlety of being.

Reality, as conventionally perceived, is no less convenient than a mystery play as a means of self-realisation. In all of our day to day events, we need to act out our characters convincingly well.

A person’s particular characteristics are exalted in relationship, and there is no end to the variations of expression. In fact it is only through a variety of relationships that our full potentialities can be stimulated. So to play out in our various associations we become performers, with very different temperaments. The mind has a mediating function in these interactions; its purpose is to interpret the world to the individual and the individual to the world; it is hugely important. It simply is not enough to allow individuality to be influenced, and so cultivated, by reference to our feelings alone.

All experiences have significance. The value of any experience, when interpreted creatively, is heightened in personality on the one hand, and in life itself on the other. The trick is to find a point of creative balance where we can assimilate what happens within our many social relationships to bring better understandings and deeper connection. This process must involve both feelings and thought.

With such awareness we win the gift of enacting deeper, more meaningful opportunities within the realms of human potential. We start to understand the real and subtle motivations that drive us – why we do what we do, want what we want, and fear whatever we fear.

Such subtlety invariably bestows grace – we develop the knack of noticing the effect we have on others, and their conscious and unconscious responses to us.

There can be a tendency to lack practicality, and all too frequently to be teased by the seductive pull of self-mystification. This is to be minimised because too much self-analysis can surreptitiously lead us towards distress, and if we become lost in the fascination of self, we lose the power to act spontaneously with full commitment.

That part of us that is its own self - what we call "I" - is not small enough to be squeezed into a little physical body. Its vastness reaches out into the other realms, interacting and integrating with other, great beings. Who we are is vast and unique.

When we perform with awareness, whether in a mystery play or in daily life, we tune in to an aspect of ourselves whose centre of awareness is higher than our normal state. We can see more, we know more. Then the lowly earth-bound physical ego is the proud agency by which that higher, wiser aspect of self comes through to operate within the Earth plane. With awareness we can bridge the realms and promote expanding consciousness in each world.

This first degree of the Expression "Idealisation" is the Affirming principle.

The scope of Aquarius 6 is "Channelling ancient archetypes in your own unique fashion", and its means of expansion is Cancer 10, "Undergoing intense training in self-improvement". Its preferred path, Sagittarius 14, "Reclaiming old teachings that pass the test of time", leads to its principle challenge, found in Taurus 18, "Emptying the mind".

Awareness of its spiritual purpose is described in Libra 23, "Speaking out what we know to be true", which generates the feedback found in Pisces 27, "See your life as the fulfilment of desire" and thus the evolutionary gateway offered by Virgo 1, "Learning what is significant on our lives".

In a certain sense, David’s seal is synonymous with the Cross, as both represent the divine order, the cosmic balance of the four contrasting elements. Apart from this the two symbols differ: The Cross—and it only —representing Our Lord’s passion, and David’s seal picturing in the most dramatic way the endless dualism of matter against spirit.

This two hundred sixty-first degree clearly attunes the contrasting forces of man’s upper and lower being; it gives self-mastery—a balance between spirit ad matter. Any balance may be dynamic or static; whether the former or the latter is to be realized here is up to the whole horoscope to tell.

If there are pointers of initiative, decision and liveliness elsewhere, we may conclude that the native can admirably exploit the uncommon energy God has granted him; he will thirst for truth and justice,. and his judgment, his self-possession, his wisdom may make him into a Guide for mankind and he may well becoi~ae an Initiate.

KEYNOTE: The use of imagination and make-believe in anticipating higher stages of development.

This rather peculiar symbol seems to imply here that by imitating features belonging to a level of consciousness as yet unreachable, the process of growth may be accelerated. Eyeglasses symbolize intellectual development; the chiefs of primitive tribes in some instances have sought to impress their people by wearing spectacles without glass, or western hats – simply because these objects seemed characteristic of a race of superior people. This is similar to the process of growth by identification with a ‘Master’ or guru. In a sense it is mere pretending or make-believe, yet wearing the ‘mask’ of a god the medicine man at the time becomes for all practical purposes the incarnation of the god. Growth is always a hierachical process, even if the growing entity is not aware of it.

This is the first of five symbols constituting the fifty-third sequence. It suggests the value of LEARNING THROUGH IMITATION.

Orderly and pleasant - well-liked - perhaps suffering from a speech impediment or some subconscious hang-up (or Gemini double-think) which makes its nature seem ill-defined and weaker than it is. Of course, this degree can overcome that and practically any other obstacles when it learns the right methods.
