Jupiter’s Essential Dignities
Jupiter has the strongest essential dignity when it is in the sign of Sagittarius or Pisces. Jupiter is also dignified in the sign of its exaltation, Cancer.
Only in night charts, Jupiter also has essential dignity in the fire signs: Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius.
Jupiter also has essential dignity in any of these specific degrees for the given signs. These are the “Terms of Jupiter” by sign and degrees:
Aries 1°, 2°, 3°, 4°, 5°, 6°.
Taurus 16°, 17°, 18°, 19°., 20°, 21°, 22°.
Gemini 8°, 9°, 10°, 11°, 12°, 13°, 14°.
Cancer 7°, 8°, 9°, 10°, 11°, 12°, 13°.
Leo 20°, 21°, 22°, 23°, 24°, 25°.
Virgo 14°, 15°, 16°, 17°, 18°.
Libra 12°, 13°, 14°, 15°, 16°, 17°, 18°, 19°.
Scorpio 7°, 8°, 9°, 10°, 11°, 12°, 13°, 14°.

Jupiter also has essential dignity in the degrees of his “Face” or “Decan.” These are the spans of degrees for Jupiter’s Face (or “decan” or “decanic faces”):
Gemini 1°–10°.
Leo 11°–20°.
Libra 21°–30°.
Capricorn 1°–10°.
Pisces 11°–20°.
First of all dignity by Bounds/Terms and Decan carry much less weight than dignity from domicile or exaltation.
Second, this is something I am speculating a bit perhaps, but in some way even negative dignities say something about the planets/signs involved. Even if Moon and Jupiter don’t do well in Capricorn, it is still characterized by these relationships to Moon and Jupiter. Venus is in Detriment in Scorpio, yet Venus rules the 3rd Decan of Scorpio.
I’m speculating that maybe the 3rd decan of Scorpio, with Venus as it’s ruler, relates in someway to the dynamic between Scorpio and Venus. Scorpio is problematic for Venus, but at least it’s a familiar problem. Jupiter doesn’t do well in Capricorn, and maybe the first decan of Capricorn carries the meaning, or the nature that is represented in Jupiter’s difficulty with this sign. Its not easy for Jupiter, but it’s a process Jupiter is familiar with.
I am not sure if this is the “official” meaning of decan rulers, I don’t claim expert knowledge, but that’s where my mind is going with this…
