This degree sounds alarming, and it may prove to be challenging on many fronts, but there will be varying degrees of this Symbol taking hold in the world around and within us. I see first and foremost the possible ramifications on the US electoral process. It seems certain, especially with Mercury going retrograde on the day of the elections, that there has be those who are disenfranchised from voting, feeling cast adrift from having any real say in what's going on, feeling victimised or left out for one reason or another. There will also be bullies and those who feel above everything and everyone and they could be getting out the big guns in order to manipulate and control the agenda. We have already seen people waiting in line when they should be voting and then getting on with their lives, people struck off without a vote, people not able to get their ballot in for one reason or another. This is very much the feeling of this degree; those with the big ammunition control the agenda - whether we feel we live in a democracy or not.
I'm hoping that the eclipse is not a harbinger of violence, enemies emerging, difficulty or obstructions to peace and peace of mind, but there are these very difficult aspects to this degree. As I write this, President Obama has just finished his victory speech. I did a Google of the phrase 'lame duck' to see if anyone was already speaking of that in relation to the governance of the US and there it was already, an article talking about the 'lame duck' Congress.
The following is my abridged definition of this degree - Scorpio 22: HUNTERS PROTECTED BY HEAVY CLOTHING ARE SHOOTING WILD DUCKS
This Symbol implies the need for protection of those who are innocent or younger, smaller, or not able to protect themselves. Being an advocate for others, you can shield them from the more harmful elements of society. You may, at times, feel that you are the one that needs to be protected or given shelter or in need of people declaring a ceasefire and amnesty so people can come out into the open and not be afraid to show their true selves. Of course, there is a need for an outlet for aggressive emotions every now and then. Doing so in groups gives this outlet, such as “Shooting Wild Ducks” some sense of acceptability. However, picking on those that are undefended or smaller is really not right, no matter what the terms. Further this degree can reflect the idea of eating meat and the associated feelings that many have around the herding and killing of animals. As a friend of mine recently did, some will come to the realisation that they need to eat meat in order to stay healthy and there may be a need to drop any feelings of guilt around it. [I will include a personal disclaimer here: I am a meat eater, I don't thrive if I don't eat animal protein.]
Satiating one's aggressive desires. Being able to hit the mark. Terrorism in its many forms. Camouflage. The armed forces. Armaments. Hunting for meat or trophies.
The Caution: Taking unfair advantage of the innocent. Exploitation. Hormones running rampant. Bullying behavior. Polluting nature. Shooting people down. Nowhere to hide.

This degree has weathered so many journeys, has been to so many places, and not only have widely different paths been traveled, but the same paths have also been traveled over and over. It comes to the point that there is no longer any place to go. The shoes may be removed, for we find we have arrived, and the destination all along has been ourselves.
The Chandra Symbol for this degree is “A rug woven out of rags.” The clothes are our outer coverings, hence, how we appear outwardly. These outer appearances keep wearing out, so we get new ones and they wear out and eventually we have a bunch of rags. All these appearances are supports for our understanding, that is, something for it to stand on, for Pisces rules the feet and signifies understanding. The other major covering of the body, outside of clothes, is shoes, which show up in the Omega Symbol. So much has worn out. Doesn't it wear you out? No, it only wears out the part of you that wasn't real to begin with – the real you is eternal and can't wear out.
Its good to wear out all these outer coverings – go ahead, wear them out, use them up – they are truly grist for understanding's mill.

Tura Mountain in the south of Aab is the place where traditionally all the people of Aab take their worn out shoes, which they leave there on rocks, under trees and in any places they might care to do so. Visiting the mountain one is awestruck with the number of shoes one finds there, for it seems that Aab, which is a sparsely populated realm could not have spawned so many denizens, even given the great length of its history.
No one is quite sure of the exact reason for the time honored tradition of shoe burial, but Zingar Reth gives the most plausible and generally accepted explanation. He says that feet signify understanding, and since the soul comes into the physical plane to advance its understanding, it is where it touches the earthly realm, mainly with the feet, that generates this symbology.
The number of potential understandings are endless, and understanding of one sort amplifies all others, hence the urge to bring together understandings so that their multifarious nature may come ever more closely to reflect a wholeness.

A 'line' motif runs through many of the associated symbols in the area of Scorpio 22. Scorpio 21, "A soldier derelict in duty" suggests a refusal, or an failure to step up to the line. Scorpio 23 "Hunters starting out for ducks" introduces the theme of camouflage and hunting blinds.
The idea is to disguise where the line is drawn. The ducks, not seeing the hunters hiding, think their pond a safe place to land. The hunters deliberately obscure the line that leaves them sight unseen while their quarry draws near.
You can imagine that if a soldier has refused orders, he might want to hide for a while in the hopes of not being found. Perhaps one would attempt to blend in with the crowd in order to escape detection.
All of these themes are alive and well in Scorpio 22. The key is to recognize an awareness of line issues, those that divide sensibilities and values, then to assess which side of the line you are in.
